After a 17 year career in education, I followed in my parents' footsteps and became a small business owner/entrepreneur. I am a wife and mother of three beautiful and talented children.
Education -Our schools are the heart of the communities we live in. Our educators work tirelessly to teach our children and prepare them to become productive citizens. I will honor the work they do and pay close attention to legislation that will affect the efficacy of our schools.
Protecting the Tennessee Dream --Middle Tennessee is experiencing tremendous growth. It is important that we protect the culture of our rural communities. I will work to bring economic advancement to the 69th district while protecting our rural community values and culture.
Embracing a Constitutional Government-- Thomas Jefferson described the Tennessee constitution as the “least imperfect and most republican of the state constitutions.” The Tennessee Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution are the documents that will guide my work as a Representative for Dickson, Hickman, and Lewis Counties.
I am passionate about education policy. While I understand the desire to make sure every child has access to the best educational options, we must ensure that our efforts for school choice enhance our public education system.
I am passionate about freedom of speech and am concerned about any public policy that seeks to censor ideas.
I look up to many people, but in this campaign I have drawn inspiration from Abraham Lincoln. His rise from humble beginnings to achieving the highest office in the land isn't the only reason I have taken inspiration from him. His unyielding support of democracy and insistence that Union was worth saving are also inspiring as is his ability to form a strong cabinet composed of many of his political rivals. His leadership during a time of turmoil is something I have admired for many years.
I have the ability to understand complex matters and make them easier to understand. I listen to all sides of an argument before making a decision. I have a lasting desire to make the world a better place.
The most important responsibility for someone elected to serve as State Representative is that they are available to the constituents and that they represent the people they serve.
I remember the election of President Ronald Reagan. I remember my dad being very interested in the news leading up to election day. I was 9 years old at the time, and I have memories of our family not getting out of the car at the grocery store because my dad wanted to listen to news about the upcoming election on the radio. I remember playground conversations with my classmates where we discussed who we would vote for in the election. And I remember attending an election night party with my parents and everyone there celebrating when Reagan was declared the winner.
My very first job was at Burger King. I worked there from the summer of after my sophomore year until I went back to school for my senior year. I have great memories from those days, and still refer back to the lessons I learned.
I believe that compromise is necessary in policymaking.

My name is Angela Redden, I am a small business owner, a wife, a mother, a proud Tennessean.
After 17 years as an educator, I left the classroom and took the opportunity to become further involved in my community. I served as the coordinator for Dickson County Imagination Library, I am a graduate of Leadership Dickson County, a Rotarian, and I have served on several local nonprofit boards.
Additionally, I own Reading Rock Books where I interact with members of our community and visitors on a daily basis.
I want to help the 69th District in moving forward. I believe that focusing on what our community needs as a whole and finding common-sense solutions is the way to further our small town, rural values in Nashville. I want to protect our farming communities while being mindful of inevitable growth.
Children hold the keys to a better tomorrow and I will ensure that they have all the tools they need to unlock that future. Our schools are central to the advancement of our communities and must be protected and supported as such.
I will be a voice for our district, and represent it in the truest sense of the word.
Protecting the Tennessee Dream Middle Tennessee is experiencing tremendous growth. It is important that we work together to grow along with the rest of the region but also protect the culture of our rural communities. I will work to bring economic advancement to the 69th district while protecting our conservative values and culture. It is important in rural communities that we do the work to fill our empty buildings with local makers and entrepreneurs who believe in the community. I will work with community leaders to seek funding and create ways to support small businesses, farmers, and makers.
Embracing a Constitutional Government Thomas Jefferson described the Tennessee constitution as the “least imperfect and most republican of the state constitutions.” The Tennessee Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution are the documents that will guide my work as a Representative for Dickson, Hickman, and Lewis Counties. I will be diligent in my efforts to uphold the principles set forth in these documents–limited government, separation of powers, individual liberty, and the rule of law. I will fight to protect the constitutional rights of every Tennessee citizen.
Education Here in the 69th district, our schools are the heart of the communities we live in. Our educators work tirelessly to teach our children and prepare them to become productive citizens. I will honor the work they do and pay close attention to legislation that will affect the efficacy of our schools. I will work with my colleagues to uphold our obligation set in the Tennessee constitution to maintain and support a system of free public schools that affords substantially equal educational opportunities to all students. Charter schools have been a topic of discussion in the general assembly for many years. While I believe that charter schools can offer an opportunity for us to provide educational opportunities for our students, I k
I affirm –as did the Declaration of Independence: that all are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I believe that the government should be limited.
I believe that people are the most important resource in the 69th district and pledge to listen to the people I represent.
I am optimistic. I believe that by listening to the voices of my constituents, working to build relationships with my colleagues, seeking knowledge, and making thoughtful decisions I will be able to make a difference for the 69th district and I am passionate about doing that.
Abraham Lincoln. He was an underdog. No one expected him to win the election, but he did and went on to create a team of rivals to help him lead our country during a tumultuous time.
Love one another. This is my philosophy in politics and in life. It isn't always easy and I fail at it more than I succeed, but I truly believe that if we find a way to pass legislation that comes from a place of love and kindness instead of hatred and fear we will create a better world.
My very first job was at Burger King. I was hired the summer before my junior year in high school and worked until the beginning of my senior year. I have many fond memories from those days at Burger King. To this day I refer back to the lessons I learned from my first boss, Kenny. I have been known to use one of his favorite phrases (If you have time to lean, you have time to clean) when training my staff, and I often compare the customer service tasks at the bookstore to the customer service my Burger King co-workers and I provided while working as a team.
My favorite books is The Giver by Lois Lowry. It is my favorite book because it is the book that made me rediscover my love for reading. It is also the book that made me realize how important it is for every person to protect our freedom by staying involved in the decision making process for their community.
The ideal relationship between any branches of government is mutual respect. This is especially true of the relationship between the governor and the state legislature. If both parties are respectful of one another, they are willing to listen to one another and work to make decisions that are for the good of all.
The most significant challenge I see in the State of Tennessee, as well as District 69, is the growth that we have been experiencing over the last decade. While we want to grow and thrive, we must hold on to our integrity as a state and work to protect our values and the values of all our communities. We must always remember that the three stars on our flag represent three very different geographic areas and cultures while the blue circle behind them is symbolic of the eternal unity of these three sections. We cannot allow growth to lead to the deterioration of our unity as a state.
It is always beneficial to have relationships with colleagues, but it is also necessary to keep those relationships from interfering with a legislators ability to make decisions that are based on the needs of his/her constituents and not the wants and desires of fellow legislators.
I am interested in staying involved in the political system, but I am not sure what offices I will pursue in the future. Most likely I will remain involved at the local or state level.
