UNESCO Amman
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan joined UNESCO on 14 June 1950 to become one of 193 Member States of the Organization. Since the establishment of a UNESCO Office in Jordan in 1986, we have been working closely with the Government of Jordan, Civil Society Organizations, as well as international and national partners and stakeholders through a wide range of modalities such as technical assistance, system strengthening, research, normative standards setting, as well as livelihoods and capacity development. Over the past decades, we have strived to ensure access to quality learning and training opportunities to all learners by promoting inclusion and diversity in education; foster critical thinking among consumers of news and information by highlighting the importance of media and information literacy; reinforce a strong and independent media by promoting freedom of expression, press freedom and the right to information; and strengthen protection of biodiversity, cultural and natural sites, living heritage and cultural development through skills training and employment opportunities in heritage development and sustainable tourism.
