Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Research Profile

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is one of the strongest research faculties in Germany in this field. In 2018, its third-party funding figures amounted to more than 39 million euros, with the money coming mainly from industrial companies, the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union (EU). Around 80 scientists successfully complete their doctorates each year. Research collaborations with top universities in North America, Europe and Asia ensure a constant exchange of ideas and enable the young scientists* to enjoy interesting and rewarding research stays on both sides. The high awards received by the scientists also attest to an excellent reputation. For example, three of the faculty's professors have already received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Award of the German Research Foundation, and two professors have been selected for the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship, Germany's most highly endowed international research award.

Faculty IV brings together its research expertise in six focus areas: Cognitive Systems, Cyber-Physical Systems, Data Analytics & Cloud, Future Internet & Media Technology, Integration Technology & Photonics, and Sustainable Energy Systems & Mobility.
