Exercise 3. Answer the following questions.

1. How would you describe Uranus or Cronus as a father?

Both of them are selfish and doesn’t know how to be father to their children.
They cannot accept what their children is. Uranus basis for love for his children is
their physical attributes while Cronus become the slave of his own power. They
are both heartless, cruel and a murderer of their own children.

2. How are they similar or different from what you perceive a father should be?
My views about a father is the opposite character of Uranus and Cronus.
Although Cronus ends his father evil deeds he replaced his father doing. For
me a father is the one whose taking care of the family. He will accept
whatever God give and rejection is not an option. In contrast with Uranus
who doesn’t accepts his children due to their external attributes. A father is
fair to their children he will be their guidance and teach them what is right
and wrong. Cronus on the other hand is afraid of what his father said that it
become an hindrance for him to take care for his family. He has the capacity
to change their destiny into happy ending but instead he shielded himself
into swallowing his children. In order to be called a father you must possess a
positive attributes that can help in building and taking care of your family.

3. Gaia and Rhea played important roles in the creation. What were they?
Gaia and Rhea roles in the creation is a mother.

3
4. What characteristics or attributes which Gaia and Rhea possessed that
women can relate to or learn from?
If we look into reality we can still observe that gender inequality still presents,
women who is powerless than men. Gaia and Rhea shows that their opinion is not
needed in taking care of their children. They have no enough strength to help their
children against their husband cruelty. They are slave of their husband words and
action but they are still in natural state to think of possible solution to their
husbands madness. Gaia and Rhea is still a mother whose primary concern is the
happiness and safety of their children.

Identifying Character Traits

Characters do things. They feel things. They hear things. They say things.
They think things. They go places. They can walk, run, leap, and jump. They
may sit and rock in a rocking chair. They may just lie in bed, sleep, and
dream. But the important thing is that characters act.

And these actions show us what kind of people these characters are:
friendly, sad, nosey, happy, lovestruck, confused, angry, or inventive. When
we talk about a character, we often describe that character in terms of
character traits, descriptive adjectives like happy or sad that tell us the
specific qualities of the character. They are the same kinds of words that
we might use to describe ourselves or others, but we're using them to
describe fictional characters in something we've read.

The author may tell us these traits directly, but more often the author will
show us these traits in action. Our job as readers is to draw a conclusion
about the character's traits (to infer them) from what the character says,
thinks, and does. We might infer a character trait from something a
character does only once, or we might draw our conclusions from a series
of things the character says and does.

Exercise 5. Write a character sketch.

A character sketch informs you about the character in a book. When you write
a character sketch, you want the reader to have a strong mental image of the
person including how the person talks, acts and thinks.

Directions: Using your character map from the previous activity, introduce the
character in one-paragraph character sketch. The paragraph should
not exceed five sentences. Write your output in the space provided
below.

Consider the following when writing character sketch: appearance,

physical and personal strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes,
feelings and behaviors towards other characters, feelings of other
characters towards the character, feelings of character towards
him/her, personality at the beginning, and changes in personality as
story progresses.

Zeus is the son of Cronus and Rhea, who had been kept and raised away
from the palace to avoid danger from his father. Since he is a son of two titans, he
also became powerful, tall, and muscular, and he uses thunderbolts as his weapon.
His strengths are his abilities, cleverness, and connections, while according to the
internet, his weakness is beautiful women. Zeus is brave, unselfish and a great
leader, which made him a feared and respected god. In the beginning, Zeus seems
to be a coward for hiding from his father but, he dared to fight against the titans
together with his siblings and won the battle in the end.
