skills # 1
What are digital logos? How will you succeed in creating
them?

Logos design has changed in the last few decades,

thanks to the power and creative ability of computers.
The computers has provided logo designers more
opportunities to be productive. It allows them to adopt
methods that deliver better results. The computer has
become unique and valuable resource to create logos
digitally. For example, with the computer, logo designers
today could:

 Print and scan logo designs quickly;

 Use the internet to search, post, blog ideas, or
consult experts, and receive feedback almost
immediately; and
 Edit or make changes in the logo size, font,
colors, texts, or image.

Creating logos digitally is not just for experts. Digital logo

creation is for anyone who is interested to learn from its
basic concepts.

BASIC STEPS IN CREATING DIGITAL LOGO

1. Visualize and Sketch Ideas – no designer has

ever been faulted for sketching too much. When
ideas present themselves, sketch them
immediately. When they do not present
themselves, stop sketching and work on
something else. Give your mind a chance to
refresh itself. When you are ready to resume work,
sketch other options. Just let your creativity flow

2
naturally. It is alright if pinpointing what it is that
you really like takes a long time. Often, the best
solutions come from the least expected type of a
designer.

2. Scan to digitize or make the image appear on

the computer screen – scan sketch to a flash
drive as a digital image. To scan the image, you
need a basic piece of equipment known as a
scanner. A scanner enables you to incorporate in
your digital logos real world sketches and
drawings that you have made. A scanner is an
essential tool to all logo designers who need to
alter and enhanced their designs digitally.

Flat bed scanner

( Image from 21st Century MAPEH in Action Book)

3. Get started with image program – many drawing

and image software programs are available to
create digital logos. Some programs are
downloadable or open source and can be
learned easily. Start to familiarize yourself with
them. Practice makes perfect. Use their website
tutorial as well. Figuring out how to use a
software program starts with an understanding of
all the features it contain. After you open your
logo in one, several control panels appear on
your desktop, one of which is long and narrow.

A logo is a unique identifying symbol. It is a special

You can see that logos may look simple but it actually
takes time and effort to create it.
There are lots of logos here in our country but only a
few stands out.
Logos are created using three design elements:
graphics, letters or both.
The challenging part in creating logo is the beginning.
Deciding which element will be used is really a hard

Designing an Elements of Arts and Principles in Text-

M. Presenting Based Logo
examples
/instances of There are three basic types of logos: text, symbols and
the lesson combination logos. The type of logo that will work best for
your purpose depends on a number of considerations
such as the size, the type of your product, the uniqueness
of the name of the business, and a variety of other
factors.

Text logo(also sometimes called a logotype or word

mark) is a logo largely made up of the text of the
company’s name. This type logo can have some graphic
elements—lines, boxes, boarders-that interact with,
surround, even form the letters. (Source: www.elf-
design.comarticle-Logo-Type.html)

When designing a logo, carefully consider the merits of

text-only, whether a pictorials symbol is likely to add
value. Words clearly denote meaning, as they require
hardly little mental interpretation, even compared to
iconic symbols. Stand-alone text naturally fills all the
space it occupies. Also, remember fonts are designed

22
with visually consistent weight and contrast, meaning
much of the work to make your design visually consistent
has already been done for you.

(New technologies can be interesting and fascinating but

having them does not guarantee that the user will be the
best artist, imagination and thinking of ways to show eye-
catching designs are needed.)

23
*How does text-based logo design help in improving the
product brand or brand name of company?
(Logos are one of the most important components of a
successful company brand. They embody a company’s
message and display its personality. A logo should be as
creative and professional as possible since it becomes
the company’s identity and what consumers remember.
They show how with great creativity or how much
simplicity can make such a big impact.
