MAHATMA GANDHI KALWAKURTHY LIFT IRRIGATION SCHEME

Preamble:
Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy
Lift Irrigation Scheme is proposed to
lift 25Thousand million cubic feet
(TMC) of water from the foreshore of
Srisailam Reservoirfrom level +
244.40 M to + 502.00 M. in 3 stages to
provide irrigation to 3.65lakh acres
and drinking water facility to the
chronically drought prone upland
areas in Mahabubnagar District.
The scheme consist of 4 balancing reservoirs at (i) Yellur (ii) Singotam (iii)
Jonnalaboguda and (iv) GudipallyGattu

Hydrology
Location : Foreshore of Srisailam Reservoir at Regumangadda, Yellur (V), Kollapur (M)
Source : RIVER:KRISHNA Sub Basin: KRISHNA
LIS does not involve hydrology. Using only Srisailam Reservoir water.
Latitude : 160 - 25’-00” North Longitude : 780 -16’-00” East

Scope of Project:
To provide irrigation facility to an extent of 3.65 lakhs acres in drought prone
areas of Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool and Mahabubnagar Districts by lifting 25 TMC from
Foreshore of Srisailam Reservoir. The Scheme is intended to provide drinking water to
the enroute villages for 1.00 TMC.covering about (336) villages in erstwhile taluks of
Kollapur, Nagarkurnool, Achampet, Jadcherla, Wanaparthy and Kalwakurthy
constituencies (in 24Mandals).
 From foreshore of Srisailam Reservoir to Stage-I-Pumping station an Approach
channel a length of 1.60 km is excavated. The water is pumped into Yellur
balancing reservoir (YBR) of 0.35 TMC for serving canals ayacut of 70,000 acres
as well as Singotam balancing reservoir (SBR) of 0.55 TMC upto Stage-II.
 Stage-II pumping station, lift water into Jonnalaboguda balancing reservoir
(JBBR) of 2.14 TMC is served for an ayacut of 1,80,000 acres and 90,000 acres
respectively and upto Stage-III.
 Stage-III pumping station, lift water into GudipalliGattu balancing reservoir
(GGBR) of 0.96 TMC

R&R centre at Narsaipally is located for 262 affected families with a cumulative

The scheme was completed in all aspects and Water is being released
successfully.
