B.R.R. Vamsadhara Project Stage-I envisages construction of


Barrage across the River Vamsadhara at Gotta (V) in
Hiramandalam (M) of Srikakulam District to irrigate benefitting 398
villages of 12 Mandals with Left Main Canal for a length of 104.24
Km. and 68 Nos. of distributaries. The project was taken up in
1970 and water was first let out for irrigation in 1977. The updated
estimated cost of the project is Rs.109.00 Crores with S.S.R.
1997-98.

The Phase-I of Stage-II of Vamsadhara Project is intended to create an


Irrigation potential of 62,280 Acres under Right Main Canal. The project
components are

(1) Construction of head regulator on Right Bank of Vamsadhara River


@750m U/s of Gotta Barrage

(2) Excavation of Right Main Canal for a length of 52.973 Km with distributory
net work from1R to 37TE to command the ayacut.

BRR VAMSADHARA PHASE-II OF STAGE-II

The Phase-II of Stage-II of Vamsadhara Project is intended to create an


Irrigation Potential of 45,000 Acres and stabilizing the existing ayacut of
2,10,510 Acres under Left & Right Main Canals. The cost of the project is
Rs. 933.90 Crores and administratively approved vide G.O.Ms. No. 33,
dated 25.02.2005.
The Project Components are:
1) Construction of a side weir on Right bank of Vamsadhara River at
Katragada (Village) Bhamini Mandal for diverting the flood waters into flood
flow canal. A regulator for regulatory flows into flood flow canal and silt
excluder for diverting excess water into the river.
2) A Flood Flow Canal about 34 Km length with two balancing reservoirs
at Singidi and Parapuram Villages en-route irrigating 20,000 Acres.

3) Hiramandalam Reservoir with 19.05 Tmc capacity with head sluices for
High Level Canal, Link Canal and Spillway regulator.

4) A High Level Canal to irrigate 5,000 Acres.

5) A Link Canal to connect the Right Main Canal @ Ch. 2.670 km from
Hiramandalam Reservoir to supplement the deficit requirement under Left &
Right Main Canals

BRIEF HISTORY
Thotapalli Barrage is located in Garugubilli Mandal
Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh State. The project
construction was in between 2003 and 2015. The Project
provides irrigation to 1,20,000 acres
in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts.

In 1908, the old Thotapalli regulator was constructed


across the Nagavali River with a 64,000 acres irrigation
potential. The regulator was replaced by the current
barrage which has a 2.51 Tmcft storage capacity and an
additional 56,000 acres irrigation potential.
STATUS OF THE WORK

The Govt. of Andhra Pradesh have accorded Revised administrative


approval for Rs 774.90 Cr vide G.O Ms No 78, I & CAD PW - M&MI
CA.I(2) Dept, Dated 05-11-2012 for construction of Thotapalli Barrage
Project to provide additional irrigation facilities to new ayacut of
1,35,000 Acres(136191) including 15,000 Acs of Gajapathinagaram
Branch Canal under the project (9300+47,958+15,000 =72,258 Acres
in Vizianagaram District, 13 Mandals & 63933 Acres in Srikakulam
District,7 Mandals) besides stabilizing existing ayacut of 64,000 Acres
(8715 Acres in Vizianagaram District & 55285 Acres in Srikakulam
District) under Thotapalli regulator and providing drinking water supply
to 24 Villages en route of the canal by feeding 42 Nos. of tanks.

BRIEF NOTE

Janjhavathi Reservoir Project is an ongoing Medium Irrigation project


proposed across Janjhavathi , an interstate River near
Rajyalakshmipuram (v), Komarada (M) of Vizianagaram District. This
project is intended to irrigate an ayacut of 24,640 acres benefiting 75
Villages in 5 Mandals i.e., 1. Komarada, 2. Parvatipuram, 3. Garugubilli,
4. Seethanagaram and 5. Makkuva. The scheme was started in the
year 1976 with an estimated cost of Rs. 15.51 Crores
BRIEF HISTORY

As per Interstate agreement between Chief Ministers of both


states on 25-12-78, it was decided to utilize the total available
yield of 8 TMc on 50:50 basis i.e., 4 TMC and it was resolved
during interstate meeting conducted on 27-07-80 that pending
joint survey about submergence area it was agreed that the
Government of A.P. could go ahead with the work without
closing the gap portion.
The R&R clearance in Andhra Pradesh is finished and the
same in Orissa is yet to be finalised.
COMPONENTS OF THE PROJECT

• Head works i.e., Spillway Regulator, Non Over Flow dam, 3.15 km
long R/s Earth bund, 0.84 km long L/s Earth bund, 0.08 km long
Dyke, Head sluice with 3 vents of 1.20m x 2.00M for discharge of
450 Cusecs etc.,

• Canals i.e., low level canal of a length 27.15 Km, 1R Distributary of


length 27.50 km and link canal of 3.60 Kms.

• Earth dam is completed except 80M length of Dyke portion on L/s and 60M
gap near head sluice on R/s .
• Rubber dam of length 60 M was installed in the River gap portion on NOF dam
• Balance works( Package I) are entrusted to M/s Siddardha Constructions Pvt. Ltd
and Swapna constructions (J.V) under EPC turnkey system for an amount of
Rs. 20,79,00,000(1.3649 % Excess) and the works are in progress.
STATUS OF CANAL WORKS

• Low level canal was completed upto 15.45 Km including CM&CD works .
• 1R Distributary from 0/0 to 6 Km was also taken up.
• Link canal (connecting NOF dam to Low Level canal) for a length of 3.60 km
was completed and water was released to an extent of 9,000 acres on trial basis
on 16-9-2005.
• Balance works( Package II) are entrusted to M/s R.N.Shetty G.S.R (J.V)
under EPC turnkey system for an amount of Rs.36,60,00,000 (2.1916% less)
and the works are in progress.

TATIPUDI RESERVOIR
BRIEF NOTE

Thatipudi Reservoir Project was constructed across Gosthani


River during 1963-1968. The Project is aimed to irrigate a total ayacut
of 15,378 acres (62 km2) in Vizianagaram District and to provide
drinking water to Visakhapatnam City. The Government of Andhra
Pradesh have accorded Administrative Approval for Rs. 23,740 lakhs.
The scheme is contemplated to provide irrigation facilities to 14
mandals of West Godavari district. The scheme also provides drinking
water facilities to 5.40 lakh population enroute the canal system. The

Peddagedda Reservoir project is a Medium Irrigation Project Proposed


across Peddagedda (also called Vegavathi on its downstream), a
tributary to River Suvarnamukhi, which itself is a tributary to River
Nagavali to irrigate an ayacut of 12,000 Acres in Pachipenta, Salur and
R.B.Puram mandals of Vizianagaram District (including stabilization of
4,500 acres under existing Vegavathi Anicut System). Besides this, the
scheme provides for drinking water facility to the villages en route the
canal. The Government of Andhra Pradesh have accorded
Administrative Approval for the Project vide G.O.Ms No.91, Dt
19.06.2003 for Rs.2652 Lakhs and vide G.O.Ms No.05, dt: 11.01.2005
for Rs.4667 Lakhs.

Additional water requirement to Irrigate 12,500 Acres in stage II was calculated


as per modified Penman method is 0.862 TMC and the total requirement is
arrived as 4.730 TMC for entire ayacut will be within the limits of yield allocated
by C.W.C. to Madduvalasa Project i.e. 4.960 T.M.C. It is proposed to create an
additional ayacut of 12,500 acres duly extension of Right Main Canal for 5.00
KM distance and excavation of 2 distributories, benefiting 4 Mandals i.e.
G.Sigadam(1395 Acres), Ponduru (4,933 Acres), Laveru(5010 Acres) and
Etcherla(1075 Acres) total 12,500 Acres.

A portion of work costing Rs. 51.30 Crores i.e. from 2.200 to KM 5.749
of mainearth dam and Dyke-1 from KM 0.00 to KM 0.890 with its allied
works deleted from the original agency with mutual consent and
supplemental agreement was concluded by the SE, TTPR Circle,
Vizianagaramfor Rs.130.20 Cr. Tenders were called for and the work
was entrusted to M/s SCL Infratech Ltd., Hyderabad under package-
21A of EPC turnkey system vide Agreement No.1SE Dt.18-10-2013 for
Rs.172.23 Crores. Proposals have been sent to Government for
Revised Administrative Approval for Rs.475.00 Cr.

The Vottigedda Project is a Medium Irrigation Project constructed


across Votigedda River near Rawada Village, G.M.Valasa Mandal of
Vizianagaram District. Water for irrigation comes from Vottigedda river
which was tributaries to Nagavali River in Northern part of Andhra
Pradesh, viz., Vizianagaram District rivers. The Project is contemplated
for providing irrigation facilities to an extent of 16,670 acres covering 38
villages. The canal system consists of 2 main channels that is Right
Main Canal covering 13,310 acres in between Vottigedda River and
Nagavali River and Eastern Ghats in G.M.Valasa mandal and Kurupam
mandal and Garubilli mandal. The left main canal covering an ayacut of
3,360 acres in between Vottigedda river and eastern ghats from
Ravada to G.M.Valasa village.
