I-WITNESS: 'ARAL NG PAG-ASA, DOKUMENTARYO NI SANDRA AGUINALDO
Every scene in the documentary touches my heart. As I watched the documentary, I learned that I should be glad for who I am and what I have today, a shelter, a bed to sleep on, and food to eat. I am really fortunate to have a loving, supportive, and caring family. This documentary has made me realize and opened my eyes to what the actual world can be. According to the documentary, Mr. Ruel Petero is a special education teacher at Nabua Central Pilot School in Camarines Sur, a school that offers quality special education for disabled individuals. Being a Special Education Teacher is one of the most challenging and exciting jobs you could possibly have. The teacher carries a lot of responsibility when it comes to teaching children, especially those with special needs. Being a special education teacher requires patience, courage, dedication, creativity, and passion, among other qualities. You'll need love and understanding to get your students' attention and behavior. I want to advocate inclusion to my students and be put them in a regular classroom as a future teachers. I realized that many people will discriminate against them if I leave those kinds of students behind who will be going to help them, I realized. People are just concerned about them. However, I must emphasize that everyone owes them responsibility, and as a future educator, consider what this child needs. Being a teacher will go beyond just being a teacher since you will become a child's second parent and someone who can communicate about their difficulties in life. You play a vital role in your students' development and advancement when they are in the four corners of the classroom. I am amazed by these students because they are willing to learn and help their parents in the future despite their differences. I admire and respect those teachers for their encouragement, hard work, patience, and dedication in going to school and providing for their students' needs. Also, what I admire about these three teachers is that they are not concerned with their own financial well-being but rather with the well-being of their students. I believe it is your responsibility to encourage and influence your students in achieving their goals, whatever they may be, despite their differences. Overall, I must say that taking this course has been a blessing in my life. I am grateful that I was able to see this type of documentary. Sir Ruel deserves praise for his patience and perseverance in teaching the students. I applaud those special education teachers who devote their lives to working with children with disabilities. As you can see, many people judge and categorize what they don't understand, resulting in misinformation. Necessarily, extra support must be given to students who require them, but perhaps we would better serve all of our students if we allowed them to explore, even struggle, and figure things out on their own. Finally, they just like us they have a dream to pursue in the future.
