A. Motivation: (A Guessing Game)
Okay Class! Before we proceed to our lesson, I have
here a magic box. Would you like to know what is inside
this box? Are you excited? Yes Sir!/Mam!

Wow! Very Nice! Okay Let’s Proceed


Inside this box were pictures of objects, person, place,
animals and events. I will tell you something about the
objects and what you are going to do is to guess it. Are
you ready? Yes Sir!/Mam!

Picture # 1: A picture of an animal. A big and


hardworking animal. It helps our dear farmers in their rice
fields. It is huge and black in color. It has a curvy horn.
Do you have a guess? It is a “CARABAO”

Picture # 2: A picture of a place. It is a quiet and sacred


place. It is where we pray. Do you what is it? It is a “CHURCH”

Picture # 3: A picture of a fruit. It is our national fruit. It


tastes sour and green in color when it is not ripe. It is
sweet and yellow when it is ripe. Do you have a guess? It is a “MANGO”

Picture # 4: A picture of a person. He is our national hero.


He is brave and intelligent man. Do you know who is he? He is “Dr. Jose Rizal”

Picture # 5: A picture of an event. Children wears colorful


party hats. There is a big round cake. It looks delicious
and sweet. There is a birthday greeting posted in the
background. What do think is happening? There is a “birthday party”.

Picture # 6: A picture of an object. It is used to draw and


write. It is made of long and thin piece of wood. It has an
eraser on top. Do you have a guess? It is a “PENCIL”

Very well class! You did a great guess!

Let us have again the pictures presented a while ago.


(Teacher will show the pictures)

What is being said about the pictures?


Picture # 1: Big, hardworking, huge, black, curvy horn
Picture # 2: Quiet, sacred
Picture # 3: Sour, green, sweet, yellow
Picture # 4: Brave, intelligent
Picture # 5: Colorful hats, big round cake, delicious, sweet
Picture # 6: Long, thin

Very Good! And those words are what we call describing


words or adjectives. It describes a person, places,
objects or things, animals and events.

Okay class, for you to be able to learn and identify more


of the describing words, I am going to relate to you a
short dialogue. A conversation of animals. Have you
heard of animals talking to each other? No Sir/Mam.

Do you love to hear stories about animals? Yes Sir!/Mam

Oh very nice. Okay, when someone is talking, pay


attention and listen very well. (The teacher will now relate (Pupils will listen and pay attention)
a short conversation)

Here are the characters:


• Jumbo the Elephant
• Raffy the Giraffe
• Bao the Carabao
• Mickey the Mouse
• Leo the Lion
After relating the dialogue, the teacher will ask:
• Who are the characters of the story? -Jumbo the Elephant, Raffy the Giraffe, Bao the Carabao,
Mickey the Mouse and Leo the Lion?
• What can you say about Leo the Lion? -He is too proud and boastful
-The other animals were humble
• How about the other animals?
• If you are Leo the Lion, would you do the same
-No.
of being so proud and boastful?

Very good! You should not be too proud and boastful.


You must be humble enough. You should love and
respect each and every one.

Okay class let’s proceed.

hardworking, small, terrible, brave, fast
What can you say about it?
They are describing words.
Very Good! It looks like you know very well already about
what are describing words or adjectives.

C. Guided Practice

Now class, take a look at your surroundings. Use this


guide question:
• What can you say about the surroundings? There are many/few chairs.
(inside the classroom) It is clean and in order/messy.
The room is colorful and beautiful/dull/creepy.

There are big/small and tall/short trees.


(outside the classrooms) It is windy/hot/sunny/rainy outside.
The grass is green and neatly trimmed/dirty.

Very Well said. You are so smart.


D. Independent/Group Activity

Now, I am dividing you into three groups. Let’s begin The pupils will be group by counting
counting..1…2….3.

Please proceed to your groups. Pupils grouped themselves.

Okay class, always remember that while doing it by Yes Sir/Mam!


group, please keep quiet and you have to respect the
opinion of your groupmates.

(The teacher gives now the activity for each group with Group # 1:
the instruction therein) Cross out the words which is not describing words.

Group # 2:
Box the describing words used in each sentences.

Group # 3:
Construct/Make a sentence describing the given picture.
E. Generalization:
Based on the activities:
• What can you say about the words being They are describing words/adjectives.

• What do adjective describes? Person, place, object or things, animals and events.

Now therefore, what is an adjective? Adjectives are words used to describe persons,
places, object or things, animals and events.
F. Application/Evaluation of Learning
