It is wonderful and can be made on the stovetop or in a slow cooker when you don't have much time but want a hearty meal ready when you come home. Submitted by Helene Rose-Carson Updated on January 28, 2023 Save Rate Print Share Close Add Photo 8 8 8 8 Prep Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 1 hr Total Time: 1 hr 20 mins Servings: 6 Jump to Nutrition Facts Cook Mode (Keep screen awake) Ingredients 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 2 pounds cube steaks, pounded thin and cut into bite-sized pieces 1 ½ tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes 1 pound mushrooms, sliced 1 medium onion, chopped 1 (1.2 ounce) package brown gravy mix salt and pepper to taste 1 (12 ounce) package egg noodles Directions Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Dredge steak strips in flour; shake off excess. Working in batches, fry steak in hot oil until browned. Remove to a warm platter. Return browned steak to the Dutch oven. Stir in stewed tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, gravy mix, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. About 20 minutes before steak is finished, fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Add egg noodles to boiling water and cook until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes; drain. Serve Swiss steak over noodles. Tips If you can't find cubed steak, ask the butcher in your grocery store to cube a package of round steak. To Make in a Slow Cooker: Brown steak as above, then add to a slow cooker along with stewed tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, gravy mix, salt, and pepper. Cook on Low for 6 hours.
