Fried cabbage is a favorite at Mammaw's house! Bacon is fried until crispy, then sautéed with cabbage and onion in this simple, quick side dish. It's terrific with cornbread.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 6 servings

  • cup vegetable oil

  • 3 slices bacon, cut into thirds

  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste

  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste

  • 1 head cabbage, cored and sliced

  • 1 white onion, chopped

  • 1 pinch white sugar

Directions

  1. Gather all ingredients.

  2. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat; add bacon and season with salt and pepper. Cook until bacon is crisp, 5 to 7 minutes.
