Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 30 servings

  • 8 cups spelt flour

  • 4 ¼ cups milk

  • ½ cup sesame seeds

  • 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses

  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two 9x5-inch loaf pans.

  2. Combine spelt flour, milk, sesame seeds, molasses, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl until well blended; divide batter evenly between the prepared pans.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven until golden, about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Tips

Placing a tin of the same size over the top of the loaf while baking gives it a lovely crust. You can also use honey instead of molasses, if liked.
