Be sure to cool the crust before you add the lemon custard. Sometimes I hurry the process by placing a slightly cool pan on a tray of ice cubes. I am going to try that modification and see if I am happier with the taste. The texture is fabulous, but the taste seems somewhat bland. I realized my mom’s recipe was similar but involved more sugar and butter, less chocolate chips, and nuts; that meets my brownie craving better. Helpful (0) Irish Beef Stew 09/02/2016 My sweetie said no beer, and the kids said no tomato paste, so I am not sure this even counts as Irish Stew. I also used chicken broth as the liquid, halved the recipe, doubled the onions, and quadrupled the garlic. After browning the meat, a boneless chuck recommended by the butcher, and sauteeing all the veggies in butter, I boiled the stew on high for two hours and simmered on low for four more. I will likely make it again, though I would like to try the beer/tomato paste broth. Helpful (0) Date Bars I 09/02/2016 I modified this recipe, both accidently and purposefully. I put twice as much sugar in the date filling unintentionally, and that worked out fine for the sweet tooths in the family; I substituted a cup of oatmeal for a cup of the flour to help lower the carbs. (Okay, a total moot point with the extra sugar - and datesin general.). We have come to like all our crisps and crumbles with more oatmeal and less flour. I loved this recipe; it tasted like mom's-though I need to add walnuts to the date filling for the mom-replica. I would make it again tomorrow if the carb watchers would agree.
