DiGiorno Recalls Thousands of Pepperoni Pizzas Due to Undeclared Allergens

A potential packaging mix-up has prompted Nestle USA Inc. to recall nearly 28,000 pounds of frozen DiGiorno pizzas. Three meat pizzas may be mislabeled as pepperoni pizza, and that means a known allergen is not declared on the pizza's carton.

A customer alerted the Schaumburg, Ill.-based company to a three-meat pizza inside a carton labeled as pepperoni pizza. The meats contain a textured soy protein that is not declared on the label. This soy protein is a known allergen, and anyone with a soy allergy or sensitivity should avoid it. However, the carton for the DiGiorno Pepperoni Crispy Pan Crust Pizza does not declare the allergen on the label.

What's being recalled:

• 27,872 pounds of 26-ounce DiGiorno Pepperoni Crispy Pan Crust Pizzas
• Lot code: 1181510721
• Best-by date: March 2022 (MAR2022)
• Establishment number: EST. 1682A, which is found inside the USDA mark of inspection on the carton

The pizzas were produced June 30, 2021 by Nation Pizza Product Limited, which is owned by Nestle USA Inc. The pizzas were shipped to and sold at retail locations nationwide. You can see the packaging here.

To date, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service division says there are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions, but anyone who has eaten the pizza and is concerned about any reactions should contact a health care provider.

If you have this pizza in your freezer, the USDA recommends you throw it out or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
