Trader Joe’s Recalls Its Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings

On March 2, Trader Joe’s announced the recall of its famous Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings, a product that became a viral social media sensation last year. The statement said the reason for the recall was “the potential presence of foreign material (plastic)” in the dumplings.

CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corporation is the producer recalling 61,839 pounds of the steamed dumplings. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) stated that the dumplings may be contaminated with hard plastic from a permanent marker pen.

The dumplings were shipped to Trader Joe’s retail locations nationwide, and the problem was discovered due to consumer complaints of finding hard plastic in the product. No illnesses or injuries have been reported as of the time of this writing.

The recalled frozen 6-ounce boxes were produced on Dec. 7, 2023, with the following information printed on the box:

  • Establishment #: P-46009 (inside the USDA mark of inspection)
  • SKU: #54988
  • Best-By Date: 03.07.25
  • Lot Code: C1-1 or C1-2
