On Feb. 3, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of deli ham from Hormel Foods. The recall was issued due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.

The ready-to-eat spiced deli ham products may contain milk, which is not disclosed on the label. The issue was discovered when Hormel Foods reported that retail deli employees noticed cheese in the spiced deli ham products as they sliced the ham.

Which Hormel Deli Ham Products Are Included in the Recall?

The recalled products were packaged in 5-pound plastic casings with the label “Hormel Spiced Ham With Natural Juices” and lot code 051424. Cases of the product were labeled  "HML SPCD HAM-D SHAPE 9/5LB" with a case code 04472 and PREPARE/FRZ BY date of 05/14/24-07.

It’s important to note that while the product was originally packaged in this manner, there can be varying package weights resulting from retail delis slicing the ham. No allergic reactions to the product have been reported at this time.

The recall only applies to the product fitting the description that was packaged on Nov. 17, 2023. It was distributed to retail locations in Pennsylvania, and FSIS is urging delis and food service locations not to serve the product. Consumers with milk allergies who have purchased the product at retail delis should not consume the product. If you did purchase the product, you should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

If you are concerned that you may have purchased the recalled item, you can contact Hormel Foods Customer Relations using the “contact us” section on hormelfoods.com, or call 1-800-523-4635.
