Nowadays, it’s not too hard to get the internet riled up. Simply tell them Chick-fil-A is testing straight-cut fries instead of its beloved waffle fries, and you’ll set your Instagram comments ablaze—no matter if it’s actually true or not.

This week, the internet’s snacking sleuths uncovered a rumored flavor from 7Up that will change the soda game forever—or at least for the limited time it is on shelves. Now, 7Up has confirmed that the speculation is true, and a first-of-its-kind pop is hitting stores soon.

7Up Releasing New Shirley Temple Flavor

7Up is releasing a new Shirley Temple flavor that puts everyone’s favorite nostalgic drink in a convenient can (or two-liter bottle). We don’t know how no one has thought to bottle the delicious lemon-lime soda and grenadine mocktail before, but we’re happy we’re getting it now.

The new soda is flavored with pomegranate and cherry, playing on the pomegranate-flavored grenadine and maraschino cherry garnish inside every Shirley Temple. We know the internet is always shocked to learn that a Shirley Temple itself is actually pomegranate-flavored—since grenadine is made from pomegranate juice, sugar, and lemon juice—and the cherry only provides the adorable garnish. However, 7Up’s version is the twist on the nostalgic beverage we’ve all been waiting for.

7Up Shirley Temple is 7Up’s first new holiday flavor since 2007, when the brand introduced 7Up Pomegranate. The pomegranate flavor made a few reappearances as a seasonal release, most recently in 2021, but has since been discontinued. Now, 7Up is resurrecting the pomegranate flavor and pairing it with a permanent staple, 7Up Cherry, for the new Shirley Temple drink.

The brand says it was inspired to make the new flavor because its Shirley Temple recipe is the most popular one on its site. Now, its beloved recipe exists beside a new recipe, which is likely become a fast fan-favorite: the Dirty Shirley. The Dirty Shirley was the “drink of the summer” in 2022 and simply adds vodka to the classic drink—so, with a canned Shirley Temple, your Dirty Shirley has never been easier to make.

7Up’s new Shirley Temple soda will be available in both regular and zero-sugar varieties when it hits shelves on Oct. 15. It’s slated to be sold through the end of the year, or while supplies last, meaning you can enjoy as many Shirley Temples—or Dirty Shirleys—as you want this holiday season.
