Fans are divided.

Chick-fil-A may have just been dethroned as the number one fast food chain in America, but it’s still in the top three—likely thanks to its ever-iconic menu. Even with new innovations, like the Maple Pepper Bacon Sandwich and Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich, Chick-fil-A will always be beloved for its classic chicken and unique waffle fries.

Chick-fil-A’s waffle fries set the restaurant apart from its competitors—plus, they make a great base for the viral Chick-fil-A bowl with fries, nuggets, mac and cheese, ranch, and honey-roasted barbecue sauce. And, even though the chain has been through some French fry controversy, the waffle fries are still a fan-favorite. So, when word got out of more classically “fast food” french fries spotted at Chick-fil-A, customers were immediately up in arms.

Is Chick-fil-A Changing Its Fries?

The Instagram account @snackbetch recently shared a photo of straight-cut fries with the text “NEW!! Chick-fil-A French Fries” written above them. Naturally, the comments exploded with fans questioning the choice.

“Who asked for this,” one user wrote. Another warned, “They better not replace the waffle fries.” “Why on earth would they replace the waffle fries?” asked another.

However, some customers quickly embraced the change.

“Dang, Chick-fil-A is killing it with all these new menu items lately,” an Instagram user wrote. “The waffle fries get cold too fast for my liking, so I’m excited,” another wrote.

Well, we have good news for those waffle fry lovers—and, maybe, bad news for those who were planning to rush to Chick-fil-A to try the French fries. Chick-fil-A is not replacing its waffle fries with straight-cut fries—in fact, most Chick-fil-A restaurants don’t even offer this kind of fry.

Chick-fil-A's Little Blue Menu French Fries

Chick-fil-A’s French fries are only offered at its Little Blue Menu concept restaurant in College Park, Md. This single location serves both the original Chick-fil-A menu, plus exclusive, ever-changing items that the brand is testing. Currently, that menu includes classic burgers, wings, pizza, and—you guessed it—French fries.

Little Blue Menu’s straight-cut fries are fried in canola oil and coated in a signature house seasoning blend. They currently sit on the sides menu along with Chick-fil-A’s waffle fries, onion rings, and sweet potato tots.

At this time, it doesn’t sound like Chick-fil-A has any plans to bring these fries to restaurants nationwide—in fact, it hasn’t mentioned adding any of the exclusive Little Blue Menu items to all menus. But, don’t worry, it seems the waffle fries will be safe no matter what, as the two fried sides are already coexisting just fine on Little Blue Menu’s menu.

However, maybe now that Chick-fil-A has heard fans’ requests for another French fry option, this will be the first item to make it off the Little Blue Menu and into CFA locations nationwide.
