What Rich Neighbourhoods in Nigeria are Like | Lagos
Ikoyi is Nigeria's most expensive neighbourhood. An exclusive island in Lagos first laid out by British colonists, it has become an area for the elite. Originally residential, it now compromises office towers, luxury hotels and sports clubs.
Join us as we explore some of the most famous streets on foot, meeting some of the parallel communities living and working alongside the gated compounds. It's what makes Lagos, Lagos.
In Part 1 (of 2), we start on Ikoyi Cresent, the home of oil tycoons and the US Deputy Ambassador. After a stop at a cafe, we venture down Alfred Rewane and Thompson Ave to the house of the Jagaban himself, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Nigeria Issues Advisory for Citizens Over Islamophobic Hate Crimes In Australia | Firstpost Africa
Nigeria has cautioned its citizens planning to visit Australia to exercise heightened vigilance due to an uptick in reports of harassment and discrimination against foreigners in the country. In a statement on social media, Nigeria said that there was a surge in antisemitic and Islamophobic hate crimes in Australia, particularly referring to an incident in Sydney in December. Nigeria’s defence chief on human rights abuse reports and security | Talk to Al Jazeera
For more than 15 years, Nigeria’s armed forces have battled Boko Haram and groups affiliated with ISIL (ISIS), with millions affected and thousands killed. Despite government claims of “technical defeat”, rebel attacks persist, raising critical questions about strategy and accountability.
General Christopher Musa, Nigeria's chief of defence staff, talks about it and also discusses allegations of human rights abuses and corruption within the military and challenges that threaten troop morale and operational capacity. Meanwhile, security concerns are amplified by political instability in the region, including coups and external influences such as Russia.

Kenya's Ruto and Nigeria's Tinubu Named Among World’s Most Corrupt Leaders of 2024 |Firstpost Africa
Two African leaders have made it to the top three on the list of most corrupt leaders of 2024- Kenyan President Wiliam Ruto and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The African leaders were ranked by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). Ruto and Tinubu were the finalists for OCCRP's "Person of the Year award". The top ranked, that is the most corrupt leader's title was given to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Kenya's William Ruto was placed second, and Nigeria's Bola Tinubu secured the third spot. Though Bashar al-Assad was ranked number one, he did not receive the most number of votes. It was the Kenyan president. Watch for more details.

This came after Australia issued a similar warning to its citizens against visiting Nigeria, owing to terrorism, crimes and kidnappings in the country. Australia labelled at least 24 states, out of 36 Nigerian states, as places that its citizens should avoid visiting. But this retaliatory move by Nigeria has raised concerns on whether tensions are brewing in otherwise stable diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Australia. Watch for more.

This is partly due to the fact that our nation is very young, but there is a huge library ...

Part of the role of the Government, the courts, and especially the police... is to act as the para-social analogy of ‘the immune system’ in our own bodies.
In our bodies, this system is unimaginably old and sophisticated far beyond the capacities of present science to ‘comprehend’ — science will »never catch up to nature in this regard, partly because nature is explosively older, faster at developing, and more sophisticated than any representational system will ever encompass.
But in our cultures, particularly American culture, the system that is analogous to the immune system is crude, primitive, misinformed, clumsy, hateful... forged on delusions... and cruelly maladapted for its actual purposes. This is partly due to the fact that our nation is very young, but there is a huge library of other causes. Some of which relate to the foundations of our society, which include features such as Covert Piracy, Rape (of the poor, nature and the history and future of Life on Earth), Domination (by systems of tyranny and corporations (nonhuman organizations that cannot actually be indicted for wrongdoing)), Racism, Arbitrary violence or murder, Facism in disguise, and Genderism.
Our Union, our nation, was meant to be intelligently reforged ... regularly. This never happened. So we are living in a context whose structures are from ancient, colonial, warlike, histories. They are from Christianity, and its predecessors that were fascinated with Law and Punishment.

This is where ‘kill the infidel’ comes from... the immune system’s primary feature is determining the difference between ‘Us’ and ‘Them’. And destroying... or at least ‘imprisoning’... ‘Them’.
So part of what we are seeing is really astonishing. We are seeing that our social immune systems are wildly malfunctioning. Because it’s not an accident, this mirroring. It’s a message. And the message is that a cascade of crises are now in process... and if we cannot give intelligent answer?
Those systems... which are both empurposed with protecting us... will do precisely the opposite. And when the immune system attacks our own bodies... we have the biological analogy of civil war... but that’s not the only danger here. Not by a long shot...

Rwandan Genocide: UN Chief Warns against Rising Xenophobia
The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned of the “dangerous trends of rising xenophobia, racism and intolerance”, 25 years after the Rwandan genocide that killed about one million people.
Guterres, gave the warning in a message to commemorate the 25-year anniversary of the genocide against the Tutsi, during which Hutu and others who opposed the genocide were also killed.
The UN chief expressed worry that 25 years after the unfortunate incident, the dangerous trends of rising xenophobia, racism and intolerance had still continued unabated in many parts of the world.
April 7 marks the start of the 1994 genocide, which saw estimated one million Tutsis, moderate Hutu and others who opposed the genocide, systematically killed in less than three months.

This article is about the breed of cattle. For other uses, see Holstein (disambiguation).
Holstein Friesians (often shortened to Holsteins in North America, while the term Friesians is often used in the UK and Ireland) are a breed of dairy cattle that originated in the Dutch provinces of North Holland and Friesland, and Schleswig-Holstein in Northern Germany. They are known as the world's highest-producing dairy animals.
Holstein Friesian cattle
Holstein Friesian cows now dominate the global dairy industry. The Holstein-Friesian has the highest milk production of all breeds worldwide.
Other namesHolstein cattle, Friesian cattleCountry of originNetherlands, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, FranceDistributionWorldwideUseDairy and meat (ground beef and roast beef)TraitsWeight
680–770 kg (1500–1700 lb)
Height
145–165 cm (58–65 in)
CoatBlack and white patched coat (occasionally red and white).Horn statusHorned, mainly dehorned as calvesNotesOriginally a dual-purpose breed, used for both dairy and beef.
Cattle
Bos primigenius
Dutch and German breeders developed the breed with the goal of producing animals that could most efficiently use grass, the area's most abundant resource, as their food. Over the centuries, the result was a high-producing, black-and-white dairy cow.
The Holstein-Friesian is the most widespread cattle breed in the world; it is found in more than 150 countries.[1] With the growth of the New World, a demand for milk developed in North America and South America, and dairy breeders in those regions at first imported their livestock from the Netherlands. However, after about 8,800 Friesians (black pied German cows) had been imported, Europe stopped exporting dairy animals due to disease problems.[2]
Today, the breed is used for milk in the north of Europe, and for meat in the south of Europe. After 1945, European cattle breeding and dairy products became increasingly confined to certain regions due to the development of national infrastructure. This change led to the need to designate some animals for dairy production and others for beef production. (Previously, milk and beef had been produced from dual-purpose animals.) Today, more than 80% of dairy production takes place north of the line between Bordeaux and Venice, and more than 60% of the cattle in Europe are found there as well. Today’s European breeds, national derivatives of the Dutch Friesian, have become very different animals from those developed by breeders in the United States, who use Holsteins only for dairy production.
As a result, breeders have imported specialized dairy Holsteins from the United States to cross-breed them with European black-and-whites. Today, the term "Holstein" is used to describe North or South American stock and the use of that stock in Europe, particularly in Northern Europe. "Friesian" is used to describe animals of traditional European ancestry that are bred for both dairy and beef use. Crosses between the two are described as "Holstein-Friesian".

Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is a flowering plant species of the Cucurbitaceae family and the name of its edible fruit. A scrambling and trailing vine-like plant, it is a highly cultivated fruit worldwide, with more than 1,000 varieties.
Watermelon is grown in favorable climates from tropical to temperate regions worldwide for its large edible fruit, which is a berry with a hard rind and no internal divisions, and is botanically called a pepo. The sweet, juicy flesh is usually deep red to pink, with many black seeds, although seedless varieties exist. The fruit can be eaten raw or pickled, and the rind is edible after cooking. It may also be consumed as a juice or an ingredient in mixed beverages.
Kordofan melons from Sudan are the closest relatives and may be progenitors of modern, cultivated watermelons.[2] Wild watermelon seeds were found in Uan Muhuggiag, a prehistoric site in Libya that dates to approximately 3500 BC.[3] In 2022, a study was released that traced 6,000 year old watermelon seeds found in the Libyan desert to the Egusi seeds of Nigeria, West Africa.[4] Watermelons were domesticated in north-east Africa, and cultivated in Egypt by 2000 BC, although they were not the sweet modern variety. Sweet dessert watermelons spread across the Mediterranean world during Roman times.[5]
Considerable breeding effort has developed disease-resistant varieties. Many cultivars are available that produce mature fruit within 100 days of planting. In 2017, China produced about two-thirds of the world's total of
