"We Got the Beat" is a song recorded by the American rock band The Go-Go's. Written by the group's lead guitarist and keyboardist Charlotte Caffey, and considered to be their signature song, the band recorded the song in 1980 and it was released in July as a single in the UK on Stiff Records. The song's single release brought the Go-Go's underground credibility in the UK. The song climbed to No. 35 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart due to the popularity of the song in clubs as an import.
Background, composition and release
Clocking in at only two-and-a-half-minutes, the song is instantly recognizable by its drumming intro. The song evolved out of the group covering the song that reputedly served as the group's namesake, the 1965 hit "Going to a Go Go" by The Miracles. Lyrically, it is a simple ode to dancing to a good beat, hanging out and looking cool. In line with a trend of early 1960s revival, also seen in bands like The B-52's, The Rezillos, and numerous power pop and ska revival bands, "We Got the Beat" mentions various early '60s dances such as the Pony, the Watusi and Go-Go dancing (which could also be interpreted as a self-reference). The song's music video received heavy airplay on MTV at the time and consisted of a simple live concert performance of the song. It gained further exposure by being used in the opening sequence of the Amy Heckerling-directed film Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982). The following year, the Go-Go's re-recorded the song for their debut album Beauty and the Beat. Released in January 1982, the song was the album's second single.
Season seven aired Mondays at 7:30p.m. (7:00p.m. in Quebec) on CTV, a Canadian terrestrialtelevision network. In the United States it aired Fridays at 8:00p.m. on The N, a digitalcable network aimed at teenagers and young adults. Season seven premiered in the US three months before it began broadcasting in Canada, on 5 October 2007. In total sixteen episodes aired in the US before they did Canada. Further to being broadcast on television, episodes were made available for free streaming on CTV's website; registered users of the Canadian and US iTunes Stores are also able to purchase and download the season for playback on home computers and certain iPods. The second Degrassi dedicated soundtrack, Music from Degrassi: The Next Generation, was released 9 December 2008.
"Überlin" is a song by American alternative rock band R.E.M.. It was released as the second single from their fifteenth and final studio album Collapse into Now on January 25, 2011.
Berlin is a 2009 documentary series co-developed by the BBC and the Open University. Written and presented by Matt Frei, the series has three 60-minute episodes, each dealing with a different aspect of the history of Germany's capital city.
Episodes
Episode 1 – "Dangerous Ideas"
Using the life and posthumous legacy of Frederick the Great as its central theme, this episode covers some of the most notable political, social and cultural movements to emerge within Berlin over the past two centuries.
Episode 2 – "Ruined Visions"
From the advent of the former Berliner Stadtschloss to the Palast der Republik which for a time took its place, from the creation of the Bauakademie to that of the Olympic Stadium, and from the rise of the Fernsehturm to the rejuvenation of the Reichstag, this episode looks at the varied periods of construction, destruction and renewal seen in the architecture of the city of Berlin.
Episode 3 – "Ich bin ein Berliner"
Turning to look at the legacy which history has placed upon the people of Berlin – and that which Berliners themselves have offered in turn – this episode charts the tumultuous eras which the city has endured, for good or ill, through the course of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Even though the Wall has since been dismantled, the sculpture was bought by the city from Mrs. Matschinsky-Denninghoff to commemorate the unfortunate chapter in German history.
History
Berlin was one of eight sculptures designed during "Skulpturenboulevard Kurfürstendamm" (Boulevard of Sculptures: Kurfürstendamm), an event commissioned by the city of West Berlin to celebrate Berlin's 750th anniversary in 1987. Of the eight sculptures unveiled, three were allowed to remain past the anniversary year (Berlin, Pyramide, and Cadillacs in Form der nackten Maja); the city and Deutsche Bank acquired Berlin after its original lease had expired.

The Go-Go's were far from being the first all female band and even not the first all female band to hit the U.S Top 40, Fanny achieved that decades before hand, but the Go-Go's were the first all female band to score a #1 album and undoubtedly this open the doors for future female bands as proof that a unit of females could not only write, play and be commercial viable and radio friendly. The Go-Gos' would continue on making two more full length albums before calling it quits in 1985. The former members would go on to have solo projects and would reform at various times throughout the 1990's and into the 2000's. 2001's "God Bless The Go-Go's" would be their final release of new material, however the band still continues to tour and give not only the die hard fans but new fans as well, proof why the Go-Go's are pioneers.

The Go-Go's - We Got The Beat (Stiff Single Version 1980).
Original version of the classic track recorded in 1980 and released in the U.K on Stiff Records in May of that year while the group was supporting The Specials on a tour of England.
This sped-up, punkier version of the song is much more true to the band's original Buzzcocks inspired sound, than the slowed sown and slicked up version they would do for their debut albm "Beauty And The Beat" in 1981 with veteran girl-group producer Richard Gottehrer. What many people don't remember is that this version of the song is what started the Go-Go's phenomenon by crossing the Atlantic to America and becoming a huge underground dance hit. On the basis of import sales alone, this single charted in the Top 40 of the Billboard Dance Chart - an impressive feat for a then unsigned band.
