Adelaide or l'Adelaide is an opera by Antonio Sartorio to an Italian libretto by Pietro Dolfin. It was premiered in Venice at the Teatro San Salvatore in 1672. An exact date is not known, although the libretto is dedicated February 19, 1672.
The genre of the opera is dramma per musica. The libretto follows the same historical events as Handel's later Lotario.
"Adelaide", Op. 46, (German pronunciation:[aːdəlaːˈiːdə]) is a song for solo voice and piano composed in about 1795 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The text is a poem in German by Friedrich von Matthisson (1761–1831).
Composition and publication
During the period he created "Adelaide", Beethoven was in his mid twenties; he had come to Vienna in 1792 to pursue a career and was in the early stages of making a name for himself as pianist and composer. He had only recently completed his studies with Joseph Haydn. A. Peter Brown suggests that in writing "Adelaide," Beethoven was strongly influenced by Haydn's song "O Tuneful Voice" (Hob.XXVIa:42, c.1795), written by the elder composer shortly before. Like "Adelaide", "O Tuneful Voice" sets a love poem, is in moderate tempo with a steady triplet accompaniment, and wanders from key to key in its middle section.
In composing "Adelaide" Beethoven made many sketches.Barry Cooper assigns the work of composition to "an unusually long time during 1794, 1795, and perhaps 1796." The song was published by Artaria in Vienna; the first edition bears no date, but an advertisement for it appeared 8 February 1797 in the Wiener Zeitung.
The following is a list of the complete secular vocal output composed by Franz Schubert (31 January 1797 – 19 November 1828).
It is divided into eleven sections, and attempts to reflect the most current information with regards to Schubert’s catalogue. The works contained in this list refer to those found primarily in the following two series of the Neue Schubert-Ausgabe (NSA) edition:

RSPCA Inspector gives water to joey in Adelaide Hills bushfire aftermath
Like so many South Australians, we’re shocked and saddened by the devastating bushfires gripping our state. Our hearts go out to the people, animals and businesses so badly affected over the past few days, as some fires continue to burn uncontrolled.
On Friday, we at RSPCA were ‘activated’ by PIRSA to assist with this crisis. Six of our inspectors have spent a difficult weekend in the Adelaide Hills, assisting communities devastated by the Cudlee Creek fires. In the video, you can see Regional Inspector Andre, who drove 4.5 hours from Whyalla so he could be here to lend a helping hand.
Sadly, much of our inspectors’ work thus far has involved humanely euthanasing hundreds of animals, many of them sheep and cattle, that simply could not escape the rapid inferno and were left horribly inju...

Sadly, much of our inspectors’ work thus far has involved humanely euthanasing hundreds of animals, many of them sheep and cattle, that simply could not escape the rapid inferno and were left horribly injured and maimed. This is kind of work is terribly difficult for anyone, and especially for our inspectors, who are all true animal lovers. We thank them for their bravery and courage in facing what simply must be done to ease animal suffering.
We’ve also been inundated with calls and emails from you, our supporters, wanting to help both people and animals hard-hit by the fires.
At the direction of the State Government, Vinnies SA has now set up a dedicated bushfire appeal to assist affected people. You can donate here: www.vinnies.org.au/SABushfireAppeal
Glam Adelaide has also collated an extensive list of local businesses and people who have lost so much in the fires, along with specific ways you can support them: www.glamadelaide.com.au/heres-the-bushfire-affected-wineries-who-need-your-support
When it comes to animals:
LIVESTOCK – A 24-hour livestock hotline has been set up by PIRSA for those seeking assistance with agistment and/or feed. Call 1800 255 556 or Livestock SA on 8297 2299.
WILDLIFE – South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management (SAVEM) are coordinating the wildlife response. You can call their hotline on 0477 055 233.
DOMESTIC PETS – Anyone with pets needing emergency boarding can contact our RSPCA Lonsdale shelter on 1300 477 722 or the Animal Welfare League on 8348 1300 (but please note that space is limited).
Thank you all for being such a caring and supportive community. It’s this type of hope and positivity that is so very needed right now.
