In a July 2008 New York Times article, Joel cited this as one of his two favorite songs, along with "Summer, Highland Falls".
So I go to visit my father in Vienna, I'm walking around this town and I see this old lady. She must have been about 90 years old and she is sweeping the street. I say to my father, "What's this nice old lady doing sweeping the street?" He says, "She's got a job, she feels useful, she's happy, she's making the street clean, she's not put out to pasture." We treat old people in this country pretty badly. We put them in rest homes, we kinda kick them under the rug and make believe they don't exist. They [the people in Vienna] don't feel like that. In a lot of these older places in the world, they value their older people and their older people feel they can still be a part of the community and I thought, "This is a terrific idea - that old people are useful - and that means I don't have to worry so much about getting old because I can still have a use in this world in my old age." I thought, "Vienna waits for you..."
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 94.8 square miles (246km2), of which, 61.5 square miles (159km2) of it is land and 33.3 square miles (86km2) of it (35.15%) is water.
The town borders Oneida Lake and the west town line is the border of Oswego County, New York. The Erie Canal is on the south border near Sylvan Beach. Fish Creek defines part of the east town line and joins the Erie Canal near Sylvan Beach.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,819 people, 2,192 households, and 1,565 families residing in the town. The population density was 94.7 people per square mile (36.6/km²). There were 3,037 housing units at an average density of 49.4 per square mile (19.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.47% White, 0.50% African American, 0.55% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.21% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.77% of the population.

Whirling is not the main objective of this workshop. The greater goal is to improve one's physical, emotional and mental awareness through whirling and the exercises prior to that. It leads the participants to perceive and accept what is befalling throughout whirling, and reach an innovative movement by means of whirling.
Methodology:
The workshop consists of following steps:
• Warm up: stretching and breathing in order to enhance concentration preparing the body and mind to gain strength to push mental and physical limits.
• Awareness: This step includes floor work, body part & upside down exercises, basic acrobatics and improvisation in various levels. It aims to strength the awareness of senses and systems in preparation for meeting the unknown arrangements to be encountered while whirling.
• Whirling: Further developments of physical, emotional and mental awareness are to be obtained in this step. Whirling first starts at the vertical level. At the further steps repetitive movements are to be experienced at both vertical and horizontal levels. This step helps the participants to feel and record the conditions of their perception of space and body; thus the awareness improves. This is a step where the participants in various aspects confront conditions that are not usual or accustomed. By accepting the unknown, the knowledge concerning awareness and ability for the thrift of bodily energy will expand.
Ziya Azazi shared his experiences and knowledge with public in academic and non-academic settings. He has given workshops in over 20 countries: Vienna (A); Brussels (BE); Balchik (BG); Sao Paolo (BR); Toronto (CA); St. Gallen (CH); Bogotá (COL); Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg (D); Arhus (DK); Quito (ECU); Cairo (EG); Arles, Avignon, Clermont Ferrand, Crolles, Draguignan, Dunkerque, Le Creusot, Paris, Toulon, Aix en Provence, Roubaix, Brive le G, La Roche sY, Bretigny, La Rochelle, Nice (FR); Mondovi, Venice, Terni (IT); Beirut (LB); Klaipeda (LT); Amsterdam, Utrecht (NL); Portimao (PT); Galica, Manresa (SP); Istanbul, Samsun, Antalya, Mardin (TR); Caracas, Cumana (VEN); London (UK); Harare (ZW); Cape Town (ZA).
Ziya Azazi gave workshops at the International Choreographic Training Programme titled "Choreographic Collision" leaded by Ismael Ivo, within the framework of Venice Dance Biennale, to the students of Modern Dance Department of Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul (TR) and lately at Impulstanz Festival Vienna (A). He also gave lectures to the postgraduate students of Performance Making Programme at Goldsmiths University, London (UK); in Dvoreca, Balchik (BG) and at Culture University Istanbul (TR).

AIM & OBJECTIVES
This workshop suggests a space for the participants to challenge their limits through whirling in single, couple or group forms; to stimulate their ability for the thrift of bodily energy; and through these abilities to reach their goal movement within their own genre, spending less energy, with a higher level of awareness.
Whirling is not the main objective of this workshop. The greater goal is to improve one’s physical, emotional, and mental awareness through whirling and the exercises prior to that. It leads the participants to perceive and accept what is befalling throughout whirling and reach an innovative movement by means of whirling.
Spinning with a partner or group is absolutely a unique opportunity to discover about the reflexes and behaviors of the daily-self. Reaching the blurry state of the spinning world means having an abstract adventure in physical, mental & emotional levels which causes enormous realizations and discoveries about the real-self. Understanding and implementing all sensations lead to a healthier body, a smarter mind, and a more intuitive spirit!
Carrying or being carried is the fundamental action of our social reality! Experiencing it physically affects also the mind and the emotions. This might lead us into new stages in life, harmonious our rhythm in time and reorganize our being as a person! It offers much bigger mental/emotional/physical plasticity then we might think!
METHODOLOGY
First, with stretching and breathing, we enhance the concentration and prepare the body and mind to gain strength to push mental and physical limits. Then with floor work, body part & upside down exercises, basic acrobatics, and improvisations we aim to strengthen the awareness of senses and systems in preparation for meeting the unknown arrangements to be encountered while whirling.
Dervish in Progress: Further developments of physical, emotional, and mental awareness are to be obtained in this step. Whirling first starts at the vertical level with & without Dervish Skirts. At the further steps, repetitive movements are to be experienced at both vertical and horizontal levels. This step helps the participants to feel and record the conditions of their perception of space and body. This is a step where the participants in various aspects confront conditions that are not usual or accustomed. By accepting the unknown, the knowledge concerning awareness and ability for the thrift of bodily energy will expand.
Dervish Tango: Here participants spin in couples our group to experience what means being with someone? In the extraordinary state of the spinning world being in couples changes once again all perceptions about being in dialogue! There we start seeing clearly our intuitive & decided habits about our personality in relationships, where also we get the chance to refine, change, improve them!
