Austria is a federal republic made up of nine states, known in German as Länder (singular Land). Since Land is also the German word for "country", the term Bundesländer ("federation states"; singular Bundesland) is often used instead to avoid ambiguity. The Constitution of Austria uses both terms. In English, the term (Bundes)land is commonly rendered as "state" or "province".
Geography
The majority of the land area in the states of Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Vienna, and Burgenland is situated in the Danube valley and thus consists almost completely of accessible and easily arable terrain. The other five states, in contrast, are located in the Alps and thus are comparatively unsuitable for agriculture. Their terrain is also relatively unfavourable to heavy industry and long-distance trade. Accordingly, the population of what now is the Republic of Austria has been concentrated in the former four states since prehistoric times. Austria's most densely populated state is the city-state of Vienna, the heart of what is Austria's only metropolitan area. Lower Austria ranks fourth with regard to population density even though containing Vienna's suburbs; this is due to large areas of land being predominantly agricultural. The alpine state of Tyrol, the less alpine but geographically more remote state of Carinthia, and the non-alpine but near-exclusively agricultural state of Burgenland are Austria's least densely populated states. The wealthy alpine state of Vorarlberg is something of an anomaly due to its small size, isolated location and distinct alemanic culture.
Austria (i/ˈɒstriə, ˈɔː-/;German:Österreich[ˈøːstɐˌʁaɪç]), officially the Republic of Austria (German:Republik Österreich, listen), is a federal republic and a landlocked country of over 8.66million people in Central Europe. It is bordered by the Czech Republic and Germany to the north, Hungary and Slovakia to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. The territory of Austria covers 83,879 square kilometres (32,386sqmi). Austria's terrain is highly mountainous, lying within the Alps; only 32% of the country is below 500 metres (1,640ft), and its highest point is 3,798 metres (12,461ft). The majority of the population speak local Bavarian dialects of German as their native language, and Austrian German in its standard form is the country's official language. Other local official languages are Hungarian, Burgenland Croatian, and Slovene.
Fucking (German pronunciation:[ˈfʊkɪŋ], rhymes with "booking") is an Austrianvillage in the municipality of Tarsdorf, in the Innviertel region of western Upper Austria. The village is 33 kilometres (21mi) north of Salzburg, 4 kilometres (2.5mi) east of the German border.
Despite having a population of only 104 in 2005, the village has become famous for its unusual place name in the English-speaking world. Its road signs are a popular visitor attraction, and they were often stolen by souvenir-hunting tourists until 2005, when the signs were modified to be theft-resistant.
Etymology
It is believed that the settlement was founded in the 6th century by Focko, a Bavarian nobleman. The existence of the village was documented for the first time in 1070, and historical records show that some twenty years later, the lord was Adalpertus de Fucingin. The spelling of the name has evolved over the years; it is first recorded in historical sources with the spelling as Vucchingen in 1070, Fukching in 1303,Fugkhing in 1532, and in the modern spelling Fucking in the 18th century, which is pronounced with the vowel oo as in book. The ending -ing is an old Germanic suffix indicating the people belonging to the root word to which it is attached, thus Fucking means "(place of) Focko's people."
After a cancelled British Government charter, she went into service with the Hamburg America Line on 1 May 1858 on the Hamburg-New York route.
Tragedy at sea
On 1 September 1858, SS Austria captained by F. A. Heydtmann sailed from Hamburg on her third voyage to New York City. At approximately 12:00, on 13 September, at coordinates 45°01′N41°30′W / 45.017°N 41.500°W / 45.017; -41.500, a decision was made to fumigatesteerage by dipping a red-hot chain into a bucket of tar; the chain became too hot for the boatswain to hold, and it was dropped onto the deck, which immediately burst into flames; although the ship was traveling at only half speed it was impossible to stop the engines as the engine crew had become asphyxiated. When the helmsman abandoned the wheel, the ship swung into the wind, spreading the flames down the length of the ship, racing through the mahogany veneer and varnished bulkheads, as passengers jumped into the sea. The passing barque, Maurice of France rescued most of the survivors, and the Catarina of Norway picked up more the next morning. As the blackened hulk was left to sink, all but 65 of 538 passengers were lost.

What If The United States Of Austria Worked? | Alternate History
What if the Austro-Hungarian Empire had managed to successfully reform before, during, or after the Great War, and established a representative federation akin to Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand's proposed United States of Greater Austria, and saved the Dual-Monarchy from total collapse?

YES I REALIZE I accidentally said "Hungary" at 5:18 when I said "Yugoslavian states" and Hungary was NOT part of Yugoslavia, I meant to say former "EMPIRE States!" I fixed it up with an annotation, I'm not going to Re-upload the entire video for a 2 second voiceover mistake. ALSO at 8:32 the Czech flag was upside-down.
SORRY, I'm kind of in a hurry to get ready for Finland, This is what a video looks like when I kind of rush it.

We are the Federal Republic
of Austria
Made up of nine states
that we will show ya
We are the Federal Republic

Come to sing along to learn this song
and remember what you saw
My name is Burgenland
Austria’s most eastern state
My capital is Eisenstadt
you should visit it is great
My names Carinthia

Klagenfurt’s my capital
I sprout knowledge from my mouth
We are the Federal Republic

Hello I am Salzburg

The state of Austrian politics (it’s interesting I swear)
Hello everybody. Today I am gonna tell you a little about the state of Austrian Politics, not because you care or because it affects you but because it is kind of amazing. I made a video like that before, but I had half of the subscribers at the time and thing changed, so I’ll go over everything again.
The Players
Let’s start with our players. Our story begins in 2016. There are 4 parties we care about in our story. There is the far right anti-immigration, pro-free market FPÖ, they are usually portrayed as blue so I’ll use that instead of the name. The social democratic SPÖ, sort of like the British labour party or Bernie Sanders if you are American. Then there is the Conservative ÖVP. They are sort of like the moderate ones of the American democrats or the British Tories. Then there is the green party. They are like the SPÖ but they prioritize nature as well.
In Austria we have a direct proportional election system so if a party wins 20% of the votes it get’s 20% of the seats in parliament. There is no local constituency stuff like in the UK and no electoral college like in the US. When no party has 51% of the seats there must be a coalition. That’s when 2 parties decide to work together to help each other achieve their goals. This usually involves a lot of compromises because no 2 parties agree on everything.
The government is led by the councillor, usually the head of the largest party. There is a president as well but he doesn’t do much except in extreme national emergencies like when the coalition breaks, the vice councillor steps down and the councillor is impeached at the same time or something like that. But what are the odds of that?
So now that we know how those things work we can get into what happened. At the start of our story it was 2016 and it was time to elect a new president. To become president one candidate needs to get 50% of the vote. If no candidate get’s that much in the first round there is a second election with just the 2 top contenders to decide who it will be. All of the parties had their candidates run. The social democrats and the conservatives both only got 11% of the vote which was a heavy blow to both of them.
19% went to Irmgard Griss, an independent candidate who previously served on the supreme court. She is who I voted for in the first round. Fun fact: The election in 2016 was the first election I was allowed to take part in since in Austria you can vote from the age of 16. Believe it or not the 1999 in my username is the year of my birth. Anyways Griss wasn’t one of the 2 main candidates and later joined the NEOS. A 100% neoliberal party that tried to present itself as a new alternative to the established parties so that’s a yikes.
The green party candidate got 21% and the far right candidate got 35%. This means that there was a second round and the green candidate won. Barely. By 0.35% of the electorate. Then the far right party went in front of the high court and wanted to repeat the election because there had been irregularities when counting the votes. They won that case, the election was done again and the green party won again this time by almost 4%. So the president is from the green party. Remember that it’ll be important later.
At the same time parliament looked like this. There was a red and black coalition with a red councillor. In 2017 conservatives had a bit of a leadership struggle for a few months and eventually this guy won. As you can see he is pretty young and he used that astatic to gain popularity.
When he took over the leadership of his party, he decided that he couldn’t continue to work with the social democrats and ended the government. That led to a snap election in which he won a great deal of seats. The conservative party now was the biggest force in the parliament at 30% of the vote. The red and blue each got 26%. This was the first election after the refugee crisis and the far right used that to gain seats.
At the same time there was a leadership struggle in the green party which led to one of their members named PILZ running on his own. Surprisingly he managed to get enough votes to gain a seat in parliament while the green party didn’t. The coalition that came out of that was a conservative plus far right government which didn’t surprise me.
Right after the election was called, long before the first polls came out I made a Youtube video in which I predicted that this would be the result.

We are the Federal Republic
of Austria
Made up of nine states

We are the Federal Republic

My capital is Eisenstadt

What if the Austro-Hungarian Empire had managed to successfully reform before, during, or after the Great War, and established a representative federation akin to Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand's proposed United States of Greater Austria, and saved the Dual-Monarchy from total collapse?

This video is an explanation of the current state of austrian politics. I go over everything that happend between 2016 and today. There where snap elections, impeachment and high treason. The entire story is a warning against giving power to conservatives or the far right. I cover the austrian 2016 presidential election, the 2017 general election and the 2019 general election both of which where snap elections.

Uniting United States of Greater Austria as Austrian Empire

Seriously though. Do NOT call them German.

President Thưởng congratulated Burgenland on its enormous strides turning the state into a dynamic economic hub and a leading locality in terms of renewable energy, agriculture, and tourism in Austria.
