The speed of sound is the distance traveled per unit time by a sound wave propagating through an elastic medium. In dry air at 20 °C, the speed of sound is 343.2 metres per second (1,126 ft/s). This is 1,236 kilometres per hour (768 mph; 667 kn), or a kilometre in 2.914 s or a mile in 4.689 s.
The speed of sound in an ideal gas is independent of frequency, but does vary slightly with frequency in a real gas. It is proportional to the square root of the absolute temperature, but is independent of pressure or density for a given ideal gas. The speed of sound in air varies slightly with pressure only because air is not quite an ideal gas. Although, in the case of gas only the speed of sound is expressed in terms of a ratio of both density and pressure, these quantities cancel in ideal gases at any given temperature, composition, and heat capacity. This leads to a velocity formula for ideal gases which includes only the latter independent variables.
In common everyday speech, speed of sound refers to the speed of sound waves in air. However, the speed of sound varies from substance to substance. Sound travels faster in liquids and non-porous solids than it does in air. It travels about 4.3 times as fast in water (1,484 m/s), and nearly 15 times as fast in iron (5,120 m/s), as in air at 20 °C. Sound waves in solids are composed of compression waves (just as in gases and liquids), but there is also a different type of sound wave called a shear wave, which occurs only in solids. These different types of waves in solids usually travel at different speeds, as exhibited in seismology. The speed of a compression sound wave in solids is determined by the medium's compressibility, shear modulus and density. The speed of shear waves is determined only by the solid material's shear modulus and density.
The speed of sound is a physical characteristic.

Speed of Sound is a Boomerang roller coaster in Walibi Holland. It was manufactured by Vekoma and opened in 2000 as La Via Volta. It was open until 2007 when the park announced it would be shut down. That year, the train was sold to Pleasurewood Hills in England and now operates on Wipeout and the track remained in place at Walibi World. On 30 January, Walibi Holland announced that the La Via Volta will reopen in 2011, with a new style train from Vekoma under the name of Speed of Sound. P&P Projects was responsible for the design and build of this new attraction. Walibi Holland announced that it held a competition to win tickets for the opening of the roller coaster on April 6, 2011
Isaac (/ˈaɪzək/;Hebrew: יִצְחָק, Modern Yitskhak, Tiberian Yiṣḥāq, ISO 259-3 Yiçḥaq, "[he] will laugh"; Ancient Greek: Ἰσαάκ Isaak Arabic: إسحاق or إسحٰقʼIsḥāq) as described in the Hebrew Bible and the Qur'an, was the second son of Abraham, the only son Abraham had with his wife Sarah, and the father of Jacob and Esau. According to the Book of Genesis, Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born, and Sarah was past 90.
According to the Genesis narrative, Abraham brought Isaac to Mount Moriah, where, at God's command, Abraham built a sacrificial altar to sacrifice Isaac. This event served as a test of Abraham's faith. At the last moment an angel stopped him.
Isaac was one of the three patriarchs of the Israelites. Isaac was the only biblical patriarch whose name was not changed, and the only one who did not move out of Canaan. Compared to Abraham and Jacob, the Bible relates fewer incidents of Isaac's life. He died when he was 180 years old, making him the longest-lived of the three.
The following is a list of characters from Camelot Software Planning's Golden Sun series of role-playing video games, consisting of 2001's Golden Sun for Game Boy Advance and its 2003 Game Boy Advance follow-up, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, which deals with the efforts of opposing groups of magic-wielding warriors concerning the restoration of the omnipotent force of Alchemy to the fictional world of Weyard. Classified as Adepts of Weyard's four base elements of Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water, these characters possess the ability to employ a chi-like form of magic named Psynergy. Adepts among the common populace are few and far between the settlements of the game's world. The game's characters were created and illustrated by Camelot's Shin Yamanouchi.

Speed of Sound performed by Coldplay Album: X&Y Lyrics: How long before I get in? Before it starts, before I begin? How long before you decide? Before I know what it feels like? Where to, where do I go? If you never try, then you'll never know How long do I have to climb Up on the side of this mountain of mine? Look up, I look up at night Planets are moving at the speed of light Climb up, up in the trees Every chance that you get Is a chance you seize How long am I gonna stand With my head stuck under the sand? I'll start before I can stop Before I see things the right way up All that noise, and all that sound All those places I have found And birds go flying at the speed of sound To show you how it all began Birds came flying from the underground If you could see it then you'd underst...

In this animation we will compare the speed of light (the images of objects that reach our eyes) to the speed of sound. We will also look at some everyday examples of where the discrepancy between these two speeds are visible. I hope this video gives you a great understanding of the two speeds. Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing for more!! Follow me on instagram: http://www.instagram.com/animations_xplaned Note: Speed of sound is based on observations in dry air at 20°C Speed of light is based on observations in vacuum Distances between earth, sun and the moon vary throughout the year. The size and distance of the planets are to scale Edit: Speed of sound would take ~18,678 minutes to get from earth to the moon. Around 13 days.
Sound moves incredibly fast! You snap your fingers, and it can be heard almost instantly throughout an entire room. But how does sound travel so quickly? Do you know how sound travels? Also, how does pushing a table relate to sound? This video goes into the fundamental ideas behind sound wave propagation. It uses a thought experiment to help better visualize the movement of particles. Do you want to support in-depth engineering and technology education? This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the speed of sound in solids, liquids, and gases. It contains plenty of examples and practice problems. In a solid, the speed of sound depends on the density of the material and young's modulus - also known as the elastic modulus. In a liquid, the speed of sound depends on the density of the fluid and the bulk modulus. In a gas, the speed of the sound depends on gamma - the ratio of heat capacities, the temperature, and the molar mass of a gas. As the temperature increases, the speed of sound in air increases. The speed of a solid is higher than the speed of sound in a liquid which in turn is higher than the speed of sound in a gas. All of the equations and formulas that you need are provided. This video contains exampl...
