Paul Hindemith (16 November 1895 – 28 December 1963) was a German composer, violist, violinist, teacher and conductor. Notable compositions include his song cycle Das Marienleben (1923) and opera Mathis der Maler (1938). Hindemith's most popular work, both on record and in the concert hall, is probably the Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber, written in 1943.
Born in Hanau, near Frankfurt am Main, Hindemith was taught the violin as a child. He entered Frankfurt's Hoch’sche Konservatorium, where he studied violin with Adolf Rebner, as well as conducting and composition with Arnold Mendelssohn and Bernhard Sekles. At first he supported himself by playing in dance bands and musical-comedy groups. He became deputy leader of the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra in 1914, and was promoted to leader in 1917. He played second violin in the Rebner String Quartet from 1914.
Hindemith was conscripted into the German army in September, 1917 and sent to join his regiment in Alsace in January, 1918. There he was assigned to play bass drum in the regiment band, and also formed a string quartet. In May 1918 he was deployed to the front in Flanders, where he served as a sentry; his diary shows him "surviving grenade attacks only by good luck," according to New Grove Dictionary. After the armistice he returned to Frankfurt and the Rebner Quartet.
The Library of Congress is the research library that officially serves the United States Congress, but which is the de facto national library of the United States. It is the oldest federal cultural institution in the United States. The Library is housed in three buildings on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and also maintains the Packard Campus in Culpeper, Virginia, which houses the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center.
The library is the second largest library by collection size, with the largest being the British Library. The Library's "collections are universal, not limited by subject, format, or national boundary, and include research materials from all parts of the world and in more than 450 languages. Two-thirds of the books it acquires each year are in languages other than English."
The Library of Congress moved to Washington in 1800, after sitting for eleven years in the temporary national capitals of New York and Philadelphia. John J. Beckley, who became the first Librarian of Congress, was paid two dollars per day and was also required to serve as the Clerk of the House of Representatives. The small Congressional Library was housed in the United States Capitol for most of the 19th century until the early 1890s. Most of the original collection had been destroyed by the British in 1814 during the War of 1812. To restore its collection in 1815, the library bought from former president Thomas Jefferson his entire personal collection of 6,487 books.
Library of Congress is a 1945 American short documentary film about the Library of Congress, directed by Alexander Hammid, and produced by the Office of War Information. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short.

The monumental Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., is one of the most elegant testaments to knowledge in the world. Charles Osgood was given a tour of the building as it underwent a massive, multi-million-dollar restoration, in a report that originally aired May 4, 1997.
Louise Penny, author of the award-winning “Armand Gamache” series of murder mysteries, discusses the habitants of “Three Pines” with Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden.
The U.S. Library of Congress is well known for being the world's largest library. That is, in the traditional, paper format. Now, the library is on the way to hosting the largest digital collection in the world with more than 700 terabytes of data. VOA's Zulima Palacio explored the "cyber" world of the Library of Congress and prepared this story. Carolyn Presutti narrates.

Text me but you need a call
I text you back but what is that?
You text me back but hold on
I'm about to relay what's going on
Text me but you missed the call
I call you back but why is that?
You call me back but hold on
I had a bud of mine, I say what's going on
The volume's turned up too loud but we don't cover our ears
Because they're already numb from damage already done
And then the temperature goes from unbelievably high
To let the temperature from the very heart of the sun
The volume's turned up too loud but we don't cover our ears
Because they're already numb from damage already done
And then the temperature goes from unbelievably high
To let the temperature from the very heart of the sun
You call me to play me the sound
I text you back but where is that?
You call me back but hold on
I'll put the phone right up to the PA
The speaker's distorted through the phone
You call me back but why is that?
I call you back but what's that?
I can't hear a single word you say
The day is turning to night
I'll never forget what you said
I text you again, again
You need to send it to me again
The volume's turned up too loud but we don't cover our ears
Because they're already numb from damage already done
And then the temperature goes from unbelievably high
To let the temperature from the very heart of the sun
The volume's turned up too loud but we don't cover our ears
Because they're already numb from damage already done
And then the temperature goes from unbelievably high
To let the temperature from the very heart of the sun
