Jean Sibelius (/sɪˈbeɪliəs, -ˈbeɪljəs/; Swedish pronunciation ), born Johan Julius Christian Sibelius (8 December 1865 – 20 September 1957), was a Finnish composer and violinist of the late Romantic and early-modern periods. He is widely recognized as his country's greatest composer and, through his music, is often credited with having helped Finland to develop a national identity during its struggle for independence from Russia.
The core of his oeuvre is his set of seven symphonies which, like his other major works, continue to be performed and recorded in his home country and internationally. His best-known compositions are Finlandia, the Karelia Suite, Valse triste, the Violin Concerto, the choral symphony Kullervo, and The Swan of Tuonela (from the Lemminkäinen Suite). Other works include pieces inspired by the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala, over a hundred songs for voice and piano, incidental music for numerous plays, the opera Jungfrun i tornet (The Maiden in the Tower), chamber music, piano music, Masonic ritual music, and 21 publications of choral music. Throughout his career, the composer found inspiration in nature and Nordic mythology, especially the heroic legends of the national epic, the Kalevala.
Half the World Is Watching Me is the second album by Danish alternative rock band Mew, released on their own record label Evil Office in 2000. The album was originally printed in about only 5,000 copies, but has been reissued twice for wider distribution. The reissued version released 4 September 2007 includes a nine-track bonus disc. The original release and the 2007 reissue include a hidden track, "Ending". The final 11 seconds of "Ending" are in fact the first 11 seconds at the start of "Am I Wry? No" before the drums kick in.
To find the hidden track "Ending", which is identified by the purple circle at the center of the disc, start the opening track "Am I Wry? No" and rewind past 0:00.
Kong Christian stod ved højen mast (Danish pronunciation: [ɡ̊ʰʌŋ ˈɡ̊ʰʁεsdjan ˈstoːˀð ve ˈhʌjən masd]) ("King Christian stood by the lofty mast"), commonly shortened to Kong Christian, is the royal anthem of the Kingdom of Denmark. It also has equal status of national anthem together with Der er et yndigt land, though it is almost exclusively used in relation to the Danish royal house and the military. The theme of the song is about the heroics of Danish sailors during the wars against Sweden in the 17th and 18th centuries.
On New Year's Eve it is tradition to sing along as the Danmarks Radio Girl's Choir sing the song on television, immediately after midnight following the other national anthem. Usually only the first verse is sung on official occasions. Adopted in 1780, it is one of the oldest national anthems in the world.
The lyrics first appeared in May 1778, in Johannes Ewald's vaudeville play, The Fishermen, which premiered at the Royal Danish Theatre in January 1780 on the birthday of King Christian VII. The play depicts the heroics of fishermen from the northern part of Zealand, who saved a lot of sailors from drowning and then refused to take pay for it. For this reason, the play was seen as a tribute to the navy, in particular because of the King Christian song. In the original staging of the play, however, only the final 4th verse was ever sung. The first three verses were omitted because of the animosity they showed towards Sweden, who at the time were an important ally against the United Kingdom as members of the League of Armed Neutrality.
This article presents a list of singles released by Mew, a Danish band.
She Came Home for Christmas is a song by the Danish band Mew. The song originally appeared on the album A Triumph For Man in 1997, but was later re-released on the album Frengers in 2003. The song was released as a single in Denmark and the United Kingdom multiple times between 1997 and 2003.

Karelia (Karelian, Finnish and Estonian: Karjala; Russian: Карелия, Kareliya; Swedish: Karelen), the land of the Karelian peoples, is an area in Northern Europe of historical significance for Finland, Russia, and Sweden. It is currently divided between the Russian Republic of Karelia, the Russian Leningrad Oblast, and Finland (the regions of South Karelia and North Karelia).
Various subdivisions may be called Karelia. Finnish Karelia was a historical province of Finland, and is now divided between Finland and Russia, often called just Karjala in Finnish. The eastern part of this chiefly Lutheran area was ceded to Russia after the Winter War of 1939–40. This area is the "Karelia" of the Karelian question in Finnish politics.
The Republic of Karelia is a Russian federal subject, including the so-called "East Karelia" with a chiefly Russian Orthodox population.
Within present-day Finland, Karjala refers to the regions of South and North Karelia, although parts of historical Karelia also lies within the region of Kymenlaakso (Miehikkälä and Virolahti, Northern Savonia (Kaavi, Rautavaara and Säyneinen) and Southern Savonia (Mäntyharju).
Jean Sibelius's Karelia Suite, Op. 11, was written in 1893 for the Viipuri Students' Association. It was premiered in the Imperial Alexander University in Helsinki, Grand Duchy of Finland, under the title Karelia Music. The suite is one of Sibelius's earlier works and remains one of his most popular.
Karelia Music was written in the beginning of Sibelius' compositional career, and the complete music consists of an Overture, 8 Tableaux, and 2 Intermezzi. The music runs about 44 minutes, as opposed to the suite, which lasts about 12 minutes.
The rough-hewn character of the music was deliberate - the aesthetic intention was not to dazzle with technique but to capture the quality of "naive," folk-based authenticity. Historical comments have noted the nationalistic character of the music.
Ralph Wood has commented on the role of the percussion in this composition.
"The noise in the hall was like an ocean in a storm. I was at the opposite end of the hall and could not distinguish a single note. The audience did not have the patience to listen and was hardly aware of the music. The orchestra was actually there, behind the pillars. I thrust my way through the crowd and managed to reach the orchestra after a good deal of effort. There were a few listeners. Just a handful."
Karelia Fine Tobaccos is the name of the oldest tobacco company in Greece. It was founded in 1888 in Kalamata, where it has its headquarters until today .It is the leading exporter of cigarettes in Greece with exports to 65 countries. The company is led by Victoria Karelia as chairman. The Karelias family have an estimated fortune of around €200 million.
1577 there was born a king of architectual passion
Placed in dire peril he would stand tall and erect
In retrospect
All I do is run tonight
Even twice as sweet but half as bright
I did not intend to impersonate a friend
If I didn't know my luck
Listen to the clock's last ticking tock
I shall ascend at last
Like a question never asked
Think him not so good natured
Oh no, not the slightest bit, quite the opposite
Because even though he would build things
He onto his queen was mean, poor Anna Katherine
She's crying
All I do is run tonight
Even twice as sweet but half as bright
I did not intend to impersonate a friend
I could not remain your friend
Lest it would have made a difference then
Could it possibly?
Well no thanks to you and me
Hey, this is the king speaking to you
Bet you didn't think I'd make it this far
But I know you all remember old Christian
I was number 4, you see
And people will think of me and say:
A good king was he! And cry...
All I do is run tonight
Even twice as sweet but half as bright
If I didn't know my luck
Listen to the clock's last ticking tock
All I do is run tonight
Even twice as sweet but half as bright
I did not intend to impersonate a friend
If I didn't know my luck
Listen to the clock's last ticking tock
I shall ascend at last
Like a question never asked
All I do is run tonight
Even twice as sweet but half as bright
I did not intend to impersonate a friend
If I didn't know my luck
Listen to the clock's last ticking tock
I shall ascend at last
Like a question never asked
All I do is run tonight
Even twice as sweet but half as bright
