Baghdad (Arabic:بغداد ,بغداد Kurdish:Bexda, Iraqi pronunciation: [bɐʁˈd̪ɑːd̪]) is the capital of the Republic of Iraq. The population of Baghdad, as of 2011, is approximately 7,216,040, making it the largest city in Iraq, the second largest city in the Arab world (after Cairo, Egypt), and the second largest city in Western Asia (after Tehran, Iran). According to the government, the population of the country has reached 35million, with 9million in the capital.
Located along the Tigris River, the city was founded in the 8th century and became the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate. Within a short time of its inception, Baghdad evolved into a significant cultural, commercial, and intellectual center for the Islamic world. This, in addition to housing several key academic institutions (e.g. House of Wisdom), garnered the city a worldwide reputation as the "Center of Learning".
Throughout the High Middle Ages, Baghdad was considered to be the largest city in the world with an estimated population of 1,200,000 people. The city was largely destroyed at the hands of the Mongol Empire in 1258, resulting in a decline that would linger through many centuries due to frequent plagues and multiple successive empires. With the recognition of Iraq as an independent state (formerly the British Mandate of Mesopotamia) in 1938, Baghdad gradually regained some of its former prominence as a significant center of Arab culture.
Baghdad is a 7-inchEP released by Americanpunk rock band The Offspring on May 15, 1991. It is currently out of print, but sold 3000 copies within one week of its release. Although Baghdad has never been reissued on CD in its entirety, one of the songs were later released on compilations: "Baghdad" was released on Rock Against Bush, Vol. 1 (Fat Wreck Chords, 2004). The band's official website does not list Baghdad in the otherwise comprehensive discography anymore (as of July 2013, the website lists only the studio albums and their Greatest Hits compilation album).
Track listing
Track Notes
The EP includes an early version of "Get It Right" of which a later version was released on their second studio albumIgnition. The title track "Baghdad" was a re-recording of the song "Tehran" which appeared on the Offspring's debut self-titled album in 1989. It switches the words "Tehran" (the capital of Iran) for "Baghdad" (the capital of Iraq). The EP also includes a cover version of "Hey Joe" by Billy Roberts (a different version from what was later released on "Gone Away") and a previous unreleased instrumental track "The Blurb", which would not appear on any future recordings, but served as the basis for an early version of "Genocide", as well as "Change the World".
Baghdad was a diocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church, attested between the ninth and thirteenth centuries. The diocese was probably established soon after Baghdad became the capital of the ʿAbbasid caliphate in the 770s. Eight Jacobite bishops of Baghdad are mentioned in the narratives of Michael the Syrian, Bar Hebraeus and other sources.
Sources
The main primary sources for the Syrian Orthodox bishops of Baghdad are the Chronicle of the Syrian Orthodox patriarch Michael the Syrian (1166–99) and the Chronicon Ecclesiasticum of the thirteenth-century Jacobite polymath Bar Hebraeus.
Bishops of Baghdad
Eight Jacobite bishops of Baghdad are attested between the ninth and thirteenth centuries.
The bishop Laʿzar bar Sabtha of Baghdad was deposed by the patriarch Dionysius of Tel Mahre (818–45) in 826.
The bishop Yohannan of Baghdad was consecrated by the patriarch Dionysius of Tel Mahre (818–45) in October or November 829 to replace the deposed bishop Laʿzar bar Sabtha.
The Kingdom of Iraq under British Administration or Mandatory Iraq (Arabic:الانتداب البريطاني على العراقal-Intidāb al-Brīṭānī ‘Alá al-‘Irāq) was created in 1921 following the 1920 Iraqi Revolt against the proposed British Mandate of Mesopotamia, and enacted via the 1922 Anglo-Iraqi Treaty.
Faisal ibn Husayn, who had been proclaimed King of Syria by a Syrian National Congress in Damascus in March 1920, was ejected by the French in July of the same year. Faisal was then granted by the British the territory of Iraq, to rule it as a kingdom, with the British Royal Air Force (RAF) retaining certain military control, though de facto; the territory remained under British administration until 1932.
The civil government of postwar Iraq was headed originally by the High Commissioner, Sir Percy Cox, and his deputy, ColonelArnold Wilson. British reprisals after the murder of a British officer in Najaf failed to restore order. The most striking problem facing the British was the growing anger of the nationalists, who continued to fight against the imposition of British authority. British administration had yet to be established in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The indigenous Sumerians and Akkadians (including Assyrians and Babylonians) dominated Mesopotamia from the beginning of written history (c. 3100 BC) to the fall of Babylon in 539 BC, when it was conquered by the Achaemenid Empire. It fell to Alexander the Great in 332 BC, and after his death, it became part of the Greek Seleucid Empire.

Visiting Baghdad Iraq: What Surprised Me 🇮🇶
What are the biggest surprises when visiting Baghdad, Iraq in 2022?
(1) Even though the safety situation has calmed down, there are still security considerations which you have to be aware of.
(2) The Iraqis I met are overwhelmingly excited to welcome tourists into their country.
(3) I got treated nearly everywhere I went - whether for a Careem Ride (equivalent of Uber / Grab), free food at restaurants, free entry into the Baghdad Aqua Park and Baghdad Zoo.

Baghdad is the capital of Iraq and the second-largest city in the Arab world after Cairo, Egypt. It is located on the Tigris near the ruins of the ancient city of Babylon.

Traveling Iraq in Rural Area near the Najaf City of Middle East 2020. I'm traveling in Iraq. Village life and countryside area are fertile and suitable for agriculture. If you want to explore the Iraqi culture and places than you should visit the countryside.
Iraq, officially the Republic of Iraq, is a country in Western Asia, bordered by Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Kuwait to the southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the southwest and Syria to the west. The capital, and largest city, is Baghdad.
Urban and Rural of Iraq
The dichotomy between city and countryside is not, however, absolute. From the early 1940s, a massive movement from the countryside to the city began. In 1930 one quarter of Iraq's population lived in cities; in 1960 that had risen to half, and that figure presently stands at 67 percent.
What are in the Rural area
In general, a rural area or countryside is a geographic area that is located outside towns and cities. ... Whatever is not urban is considered rural." Typical rural areas have a low population density and small settlements. Agricultural areas are commonly rural, as are other types of areas such as a forest.
are rural areas are poor?
Rural poverty is often a product of poor infrastructure that hinders development and mobility. Rural areas tend to lack sufficient roads that would increase access to agricultural inputs and markets. Without roads, the rural poor are cut off from technological development and emerging markets in more urban areas.
How Poor is Iraq
With widespread insecurity since 2014, Iraq is in a state of a humanitarian crisis with 10 million people in need and more than 3 million internally displaced persons. ... Despite this wealth, Iraq's weak government and chronic political unrest have caused the country's poverty rate to drop to 18.9 percent.
In rural areas are outlined several typical problems. Low income and employment are among the main problems inherent in rural areas. They emerge in several aspects: problems with the labor force, low labor productivity, lower prices of agricultural products. Tarar Support episode 138

Traveling Iraq in Rural Area near the Najaf City of Middle East 2020. I'm traveling in Iraq. Village life and countryside area are fertile and suitable for agriculture. If you want to explore the Iraqi culture and places than you should visit the countryside.

The Middle East one day, it blew in, swept away In comes the sunshine, story turned to strange In walking comes a smile, I didn't know the day She sits down beside me, perfectly arranged Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere She wanders all around, will she make it on fries and coffee Bigger words then tears, I'm afraid of what it might be Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere And she's bouncing in and out of nowhere Ain't nobody help me on the outside Gotta make it through to the inside And I'm talking strange Ain't nobody help me on the outside Gotta make it through to the inside And I'm talking strange Talking strange Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere It's alright, she leaves it all behind We all run for the Middle East sometimes Little mind yeah can take us anywhere Escape us anywhere, escape us everywhere
