Taehun's Catchphrase
“Do you have 500 won?”
Taehun Seong (성태 Song Taehun) is the deuteragonist of How to Fight/viral Hit.
Appearance[]
Taehun has shoulder-length, light brown hair with a mullet and bangs. He has very fair skin and a well-built, muscular body. His brown eyes are complemented by long eyelashes and lips that have a subtle feminine pink tint. He is very tall, with extremely long legs. He usually dresses in a normal outfit consisting of a white t-shirt and black pants, but he often wears a green bomber jacket with a skull on the back.
In his flashback, Taehun is shown having a bowl cut and dark brown hair which he later dyed light brown due to a pivotal incident. He is extremely attractive, even gaining a large female following because of his looks.
Personality[]
Taehun comes across a stoic individual with a cold exterior, who can be considered reckless. He doesn't seem care much about how his actions affect others and shows no hesitation to be violent around other people, whether they get in problems do to this. He likes beating people up for his own enjoyment, sometimes even threatening them to give him something he wants by beating their friend. He shows a strong belief that he needs taekwondo to beat everyone and dominate the UFC with it. Many aren't a fan of Taehun’s arrogant behavior, which earned him the nickname "Nutjob Taehun" while he was still signed in MX FC.
He is enthusiastic about taekwondo, and using his skill sets when fighting, always wanting to be the strongest. Taehun does not demonstrate much interest in school or studying, but he is still highly intelligent, always following his own logic above anything else. He has the uncanny ability to read people well and possesses some kind of intuition, which allows him to make accurate predictions even when he lacks evidence. Additionally, Taehun is highly perceptive, able to correctly guess that Ji Yeonwoo is a Kyokushin practitioner based on certain cues such as the bruises from training, calluses on his knuckles, and his extreme physical endurance. He has a keen eye for people who are trained in martial arts and is also very aware of his surroundings, particularly noting when he is being followed.
History[]
Taehun is the son of 'Taekwondo legend', Hansu Seong. Since young, he has been considered a prodigy in the sport, having even made some appearences in a KBS show, where he beat up high schoolers while still in primary school. He was nicknamed “Spin Genius” due to how flawless Taehun is at executing spinning kicks in a fight.
In the past, Taehun was even more extreme than he is now, but he was surprisingly influenced by Lee Dowoon, a student in his middle school who would never stand up for himself. While Dowoon was being bullied by his classmates for his unique hair color, Taehun steps in, and he joins his classmates as they were tormenting him.
Known as the strongest in middle school, everyone feared him and did what he said. He had been training in taekwondo since he was young at his father’s dojo, who was a former gold medalist. Seeing his father’s dojo losing members because of the rising popularity of other combat sports in MMA, he started handing out flyers to try and get more people interested. However, Dowoon was the only one who joined.
Taehun’s father would encourage him to get along with Dowoon and teach him, but Taehun couldn’t understand Dowoon and showed a strong dislike for his behavior. Dowoon, in contrast to Taehun, always acted according to other people’s wishes and did whatever his father told him to. This constantly frustrated Taehun, to the point of even wanting to help him gain some independence.
Taehun’s classmates were fed up with his violent behavior towards them, so they paid the leader of a biker gang, Jang Hyeon, to teach him a lesson. However, it didn’t work, as Taehun quickly beat up the people sent, and his classmates had to pay again to send someone who could deal with him.
While Dowoon was being bullied as usual, Taehun entered the classroom with his hair dyed light brown, just like Dowoon. He dragged him out of school, planning to show him what ‘freedom’ looks like. He started by getting Dowoon’s ears pierced and confiscating his phone so that he couldn’t call his father. The two were suddenly approached by two girls, Minji and an unnamed blonde, who offered to hang out with them. Taehun saw them as an opportunity to get Dowoon to open up and accepted. After hours of playing arcade games with them, Dowoon seemed to forget about studying and started to have fun, not knowing that his father was furious. Taehun then gets approached by Jang Hyeon’s gang, showing no surprise, as he had known he was being followed. He immediately spotted his opponent, Kim Munseong, and the two got into an intense fight, where Taehun ended up winning because of his desire to save Dowoon before something happened to him. He rushed inside the arcade, only to see Dowoon knock Jang Hyeon out by using the 1080°, the kick he failed to execute when fighting Mansung. Filled with rage and envy, Taehun stops talking to Dowoon for several days.
After refusing to immediately go after him when he was kidnapped by Jang Hyeon and his bike gang, Taehun eventually found the dead body of his friend lying in the street as it rained. He immediately rushed to the hospital with Dowoon on his back, but it was too late. Drowning in guilt, regret, and self-hate, Taehun violently assaulted Jang Hyeon and his gang with a baseball bat. After leaving them with serious injuries, he breaks down in tears and starts loathing himself. The iconic “500 won” gang line is seen to have emerged from his last conversation with his dead friend where the former asked the latter for 500 won for playing an arcade game.

Style Breakdown[]
Taehun is a Taekwondo practitioner, formerly based on WT (World Taekwondo), but now also being a user of the original ITF (International Taekwondo Federation) style. Since young, he was considered a prodigy in the sport, having even made an appearance on a KBS show, where he easily beat a high schooler while still in primary school. His father notes that weight classes have never applied to Taehun, because he was a “spin genius.” His method of beating an opponent taller, bigger, and heavier than him was to use spinning moves, as each spin would increase the power of the kick. Despite spinning moves being considered risky, Taeun can pull them off in a practical situation because of his impressive speed and coordination.
Taehun usually keeps his hands low, preferring to dodge and move out of the way of incoming attacks. When unable to use his legs, Taehun lowers his body and puts his guard up. His footwork is very light and fast, meaning that he can quickly move around in a fight. He can even move on slippery surfaces by sliding his feet slightly to the inside and lowering his center of gravity to maintain his balance. Taehun has a preference for using kicks and often uses his fists as backup, either when he can’t use his legs or when the situation gets serious. He has incredibly strong shin bones, which were even able to break a baseball bat with its impact. Taehun’s long legs help him kick his opponents from a distance, and he usually likes to overwhelm them with continuous kicks until they’re down.
In a flashback, it was shown that his father has trained him in ITF, which is credited as the original Taekwondo, in contrast to WT Taekwondo, which was modified for sport. WT Taekwondo heavily emphasizes kicks because they score more points in competition. Punches to the head are not permitted, and that naturally makes participants of the sport focus on kicks only. Whereas in ITF, punches to the head are allowed, and it emphasizes them equally to kicks. The ITF style is similar to kickboxing, making the fighter have a great combination of punches and kicks.
When getting into a serious situation in a fight, Taehun is seen using more of ITF, showing much more power and aggressiveness in his movements, but still maintaining the flashy techniques. Despite being exceptionally good at striking, Taehun has no grappling experience as he refuses to use anything other than Taekwondo. His mindset when dealing with a grappler is to keep the distance and kick before they can grab him, which didn’t always work, as he ended up losing to chokes thrice.
In season 1, Taehun surpassed his father, Hansu, when he was his age in both strength and speed.
