"There's no point in having outstanding talent if you have nothing that you're fighting for." |
— Hansu Seong in Episode 126 |
Hansu Seong (성한수, Seong Hansoo) is a major character in How to Fight/ Viral Hit. He is Taehon Seong's father and Taekwondo Master.
Appearance[]
Hansu Seong is around the average height of a Korean man; however, his strength and agility are exceptional, thanks to his physical fitness. He has brown hair and brown eyes along with smooth eyebrows. His most identifiable feature apart from his taekwondo uniform are his semi-rimmed eyeglasses.
Personality[]
Hansu Seong is known to have a kind and caring attitude, but more strict on his son. He is known to be strict on his son, but still caring about him, shown in [1] Manager Kim, Hansu Seong helps Manager Kim with his mission to rescue his daughter as payback for Manager Kim saving his son, Taehoon Seong when he was young.
History[]
Hansu Seong was a respected taekwondo practitioner from his youth. Due to Hansu's exceptional Taekwondo abilities, he was invited by North Korea to teach the martial art. One of his opponents was Mangil Ri, who lost to Hansu in a match and swore vengeance on him in the future.[2]
More of his backstory is involved within Manager Kim, where it's told he was supposed to kill the supreme leader of North Korea, along with Jincheol Park and Manager Kim.
Hansu trained his son Taehun to follow in his footsteps as a taekwondo athelete. He made an appearance on TV with his son showing off his skills from the age of 13.[3] Hansu's business was not successful, so he would often hold tutoring sessions inside the dojang. This caused tension between him and his son, who felt as though Hansu was giving up on taekwondo. Hansu promised Taehun that if he won the taekwondo competition, he would do his best to turn the dojang around.[4]
Dowoon's dad enrolled him into Hansu's dojang soon, and Hansu told Taehun to behave around Dowoon.[5]He also told Taehun to look out for Dowoon, since he was living in a very difficult situation.[6]
Relationships[]
Taehun Seong[]
Hansu is the father and teacher of Taehun Seong, teaching him both WT and ITF Taekwondo. Hansu is disappointed in his son Taehun for his poor behavior. However, he recognizes his talent as a fighter and encourages him to improve.
Synopsis[]
When Taehun's father returns to the dojang he asks the kids what they are doing there. He is surprised to see that Taehun has friends. Hansu mistakes Hobin for Dowoon before realizing that he is not the same person. He explains the story of Dowoon Lee, who was the main reason why Taehun changed so much.[7]
After witnessing Taehun's return to training, Hansu asked why he was working so hard. Taehun explained his desire to conquer the world with taekwondo. Hansu told Taehun that he couldn't do it with his current style of WTF, and trained him in ITF-style taekwondo.[8]
Taehoon later introduces Yeonwoo to Hansu to be trained as his student. Yeonwoo isn't sure about being trained by a taekwondo teacher, which triggers Taehoon's father. He hits Yeonwoo with a powerful strike, and is revealed to be a 9th dan in karate. He charges Yeonwoo double for his lessons.[9]Hansu Seong said that Yeonwoo was an interesting character to train. He had good grades, a good character and practically everything. He wanted to dissuade him from choosing karate, but he apologized once he saw how serious Yeonwoo was.[10] Yeonwoo eventually ran off to train on his own, while Hansu continued training Taehun in the dojang.[11]
20 days before the members of the overseas branch arrive, Hansu gives Taehun some advice. He is impressed by the strength of his kicks, but he is worried Taehoon's strength is getting to his head. Hansu tells Taehun that he is worried about his training when he doesn't appear to have any motives for fighting. He says if Taehun has no reason to fight, then he will never be able to defeat anyone.[12]
Fighting Prowess[]
Hansu is arguably the most powerful character in the series other than possibly Samdak. He is a master of Taekwondo (WTF & ITF) , having trained his son Taehon and 9th Kyokushin Karate. His kicks and punches are so powerful that even Yeonwoo Ji (a Kyokushin Karate fighter with immense physical resistance) was able to feel his punch. He was also able to throw multiple opponents who attacked him at the same time armed with knives with a single kick. Fighting his son Taehon, who supposedly surpassed him when he was his age, in both strength, speed and talent and winning. His most impressive feat was defeating a drug dealer armed with a police gun, dodging all the shots at close range and using only Taekwondo. It is so strong that it defeats all opponents with just its feet. (WT) ITF Taekwondo or Kyukjin, which use a lot of hand techniques, or even grappling, are not used. In the first place, all opponents are defeated using only the feet. and in Director Kim , his fighting power is revealed in more detail, showing him beating members of the National Special Mission Unit with only kicks and escaping with ease with Director Kim. When he was young and working as a North Korean agent after winning a gold medal, he was such a strong man that it was said that his fighting skills were similar to those of his friends, Director Kim and Jin-cheol Park. In addition, he showed a level of strength that he never gave up even when fighting with Park Jin-cheol, who turned his face into a fossil while overpowering Director Nam, who was by no means a formidable strongman. In episode 35, which is presumed to be before his prime, he even shows his performance in defeating Ri Man-seop, a bodyguard from North Korea's Dandelion who protects Kim X-il. In the beginning, he was briefly overwhelmed by Lee Man-seop, but later he realized the basics of rotation and won by knocking Lee Man-seop down with a kick in the air. Moreover, this time too, he dodged all of his bullets. Really, at this point, it would be safe to say that he had combat power on par with Director Kim and Park Jin-cheol. However, there is one serious problem: when the personality patch down is activated, the combat power increases explosively, but if the level gets too low, the previous personality returns, and harsh words and swearing are the default, and he loses his reason and attacks to calm himself down. He becomes enraged to the point where it is difficult to distinguish between friend and foe, such as taking down Park Jin-cheol and Director Kim. In fact, when the personality patch reached 83%, it ended up with him just being angry, but as soon as it dropped to 34%, he cursed Shin Se-ra, who was trying to stop him, calling him a "bitch," and two friends came to calm him down. started attacking people. When it drops to 34%, he shows an elasticity that surpasses the limits of an Asian, and not only easily avoids the attacks of Director Kim and Park Jin-cheol who tried to stop him, but becomes strong enough to blast them with a kick. Han-su Seong, whose personality was at 34%, turned into a powerhouse at his peak, and that number continued to drop even when the battle was at a lull, and when he faced number 2, his personality dropped to 9% . In many ways, it is similar to Ultra Instinct in that as the number decreases, the old personality does not appear, but the reason itself seems to disappear. Han-soo Seong was on the verge of death, but his senses returned as soon as he received a call from his wife, Lee So-hyun. Perhaps because she was his wife, he returned to normal.
