Instead of focusing on the finalfive of Total Drama Island, Chris decides to give them the day off while showing them doing various activities: Leshawna bursts out of the cabin and throws up over a railing, Heather and Gwen are chased by a bear, Owen swims in the lake covered with leeches, and Duncan fishes and catches Owen's bathing suit. Instead, the episode will focus on all the eliminated campers from the season so far. They are shown relaxing at a luxurious resort, taking a break from the stressful game. The previously eliminated campers reveal their thoughts on who deserves to win the prize money. Noah, Katie and Sadie talk about the show at the snack bar in the center of the pool while Izzy entertains herself by swimming around them. Geoff and Bridgettemake out in the hot tub while Ezekiel tries to get closer to Bridgette, but to no avail.
I love being a loser! This is so much more my style. If I'd known how phat this place was, I would've gotten my butt kicked off in the first episode. Plus, now Tyler and I can hang out. Which one's Tyler?
I don't care how nice this place is, I'm not supposed to be here. After I was kicked off, I found out exactly what went on the night I was eliminated. It was all Harold's fault! I should be in the final five right now! When I find that little twerp, I'm gonna grab hold of him, and wring his skinny, awkward little neck!
I learned a lot during my experience on the island with Heather. If you're going to have a best friend that's going to make all your decisions for you, you should make sure they're not a total jerk!
Yeah, I was pretty shocked to be the third camper voted off. Apparently, I wasn't bossy, manipulative, or 'dangerous' enough to make it through. You can't say I wasn't a team player, though.
I'm in the middle of filing a lawsuit for wrongful termination of competition. These people are witnesses! I was unfairly kicked off!
”
Courtney continues her rant, but no one else cares. Lindsay even points out that Courtney probably would have been voted out eventually because none of the other campers like her that much, which really surprises Courtney.
Did I get anything out of this experience? No. It was completely and totally uneventful.
”
Izzy interrupts Noah by pointing out that he kissed a guy. They get into a "did-didn't" argument until Trent breaks the tie and says that Noah "totally did". A flashback clip then appears of Noah kissing Cody's ear during the Awake-A-Thon challenge, to which Noah replies, "I have no comment". Lindsay then comes by and tells everyone that there is a picture of her in "Star Stalker" magazine, to which Noah replies, "It's all going downhill from here, honey". Lindsay then suggests that she could be on the cover if she develops an eating disorder or considers getting a boob job. Chris then asks Trent if he has anything to say to any of the remaining campers in the competition.
Uh, I guess I'd tell Gwen that I was rooting for her. And… I miss her. She's special. And I think I'm in love with her.
”
He also admits that he is in love with her and hopes that she is over Heatherkissing him. Izzy jumps in and says that if she were Gwen, Trent would have been badly maimed. Trent tries to explain, but Izzy doesn't believe him. Afterwards, Izzy says she has to go to the bathroom, but instead of leaving, she urinates in the pool, grossing everyone out. Afterwards, Chris starts asking everyone what they think of the five campers left in the competition. Everyone unanimously hates Heather, especially Eva.
Heather can kiss my butt! It's all her fault I'm stuck in this place! She's a scum-sucking, backstabbing witch and I'm going to enjoy watching her go down!
Heather is a formidable competitor, but I can't say I approve of her tactics. I mean, reading Gwen's diary in front of the whole world? So uncalled for.
Heather was definitely the scariest female on the island, but I can handle her.
”
Courtney finally catches Harold and starts hitting him with the lamppost. Chris also asks Lindsay and Trent for their opinion of Heather. Ezekiel and Katie agree that Heather is pretty bossy. Sadie wonders how she got so far when no one liked her. Eva answers Sadie from a distance by yelling about Heather again.
Who would I like to win? I can't believe I'm saying this, but I—I think I'd have to pick… Duncan. Don't tell the others though, okay?
”
Izzy tells Courtney that they already knew she was all over him, and Noah notes that he's seen his dog drooling less over a rib eye stake since most of the eliminated campers were eavesdropping on her. DJ, patting a bandaged Bunny, also talks about Duncan.
Duncan? Man, that is one tough dude. I saw him wrestle a grizzly bear to the ground.
”
He then slams the table Bunny is on, sending him flying. Meanwhile, Harold is up in a tree with the lamppost wrapped around him, talking about how much he hates Duncan. However, after calling him an idiot, Harold falls out of the tree.
Duncan? I hate that guy. He made me pee my pants. He drew on my face with a marker. He strung my underwear up a flagpole, put hot sauce in them, and fed them to me for lunch in an underwear sandwich! He's beyond annoying. Idiot!
Well, I think he's pretty cruel. Anyone who treats deer and trees badly is not a friend to deer or trees.
”
Katie and Sadie talk about how fun Owen was, but remember that he was pretty mean in the dodgeball challenge. Trent reaffirms that he likes Gwen. Courtney agrees that Gwen is smart but not a "team player," comparing Gwen to herself and suggesting that she should be in Gwen's place. Noah tells her to get over it, prompting Courtney to retaliate by throwing her drink at him, knocking him into the water.
I can't say anything bad about her. And I excel at saying bad things about people.
”
Katie and Sadie think Leshawna is the best, even though they were not on her team. Katie then chuckles when Noah reminds her that Leshawna once locked Heather in the fridge, and says that anyone who could come up with a prank like that deserves his vote. Later that night, the ex-campers meet by the pool to discuss who they think should win. Trent notices Cody's severe sunburn, which Cody tries to pass off as a touch sensitivity. During their conversation, Cody states that he wants Gwen to win. Lindsay remarks that Gwen chose someone better looking and more stylish than him, but Cody says that he just wants Gwen to be happy, which Trent thought was cool. After a few more ideas of who should win, Chris arrives and tells everyone that they will be voting for the next camper on Total Drama Island. Bunny then falls from the sky onto Lindsay's lap, who asks if he's Tyler.
Due to Chris' snappy wordplay, Katie and Sadie think he is asking them which camper from the final five they would like to spend time with that night, so they think it would be cool if Leshawna joined them. Shocked, Courtney argues the logic and tells them that if they like Leshawna, then they shouldn't vote for her; however, by saying Leshawna's name, Courtney is counted as a third vote for Leshawna. Harold, still with the lamppost wrapped around him, is furious, thinking that Courtney is trying to use Leshawna to get back at him for how he hurt Duncan by eliminating her. He starts a slap fight with Courtney, who responds by telling him to get off of her, and they fall into the pool, much to Noah's delight, who responds by muttering, "Excellent". Lindsay is next and she tells the others not to worry because she won't be voting for Leshawna. When she says Leshawna's name again, it counts as a vote, currently at four votes. DJ calls her out, but Lindsay thinks DJ is voting for her, so she corrects him by saying he has to vote for someone on the island, like Leshawna, which adds another vote for Leshawna. Izzy then yells at everyone not to say "Leshawna," which brings the vote up to six. A nearby parrot then says the name "Leshawna," bringing the total to seven. Trent argues that the vote doesn't count since the parrot has no idea who Leshawna is, which counts as vote eight. The parrot then says, "Polly want a Leshawna," giving Leshawna nine votes and eliminating Leshawna. At Camp Wawanakwa, a shocked Leshawna is dragged to the Boat of Losers and thrown aboard by Chef. A cheerful Chris is then seen walking up to her at the Playa Des Losers' dock and signing off on the show.
Chef, Duncan, Gwen, Heather, Justin, Leshawna, Owen and Tyler appear, but they do not speak. However, Leshawna gags and Heather screams, while Tyler, Heather, Gwen, and Owen speak in flashbacks.
A parrot says Leshawna's name, but it is unknown who voiced it.
This is the only non-challenge episode to feature an elimination.
This is the second time this season that someone has no lines in the episode in which they are eliminated.
Despite being a significant part of the episode, none of the final five campers have lines and very little screen time.
It is possible that the original plot for this episode was completely different. This is shown on Teletoon's "Total Drama Island: Totally Interactive!" which gives a summary of a modeling challenge, hence the episode's title "Haute Camp-ture." This may explain why Leshawna is eliminated in this episode, even though there was no challenge.
The description of the challenge appears in the iTunes release of the episode and in some TV guides being as follows: Each camper is getting their minutes of fame - or make that, five minutes of shame, when they compete in the Total Drama Modeling Challenge. Dressed in heels in wigs and forced to strut their stuff, they will be judged on their walking, talking and hawking as they participate in the photo shoot. Owen scores big points with the judges, but loses big time friendships when he gets caught in multi-alliances. If the campers humiliation weren't tested to the limits, their courage will be when they are told they must do their final catwalk performance on a tiny runway over a pit of crocodiles! In the end, one camper reigns supreme when they fall into the croc pits and face off with the hungry beasts.
According to Todd Kauffman, this is indeed true, and the original outline for the twenty-second episode of Total Drama Island did not include a visit to Playa Des Losers. He suspects that the episode was scrapped because it would have made production too difficult, with perhaps too many costume changes. Instead of being voted out by the losers, Leshawna's elimination would have happened because she gave up her invincibility to Gwen, assuming she would vote Heather out, only for Gwen to vote Leshawna out instead, leading Heather to say that anyone who gives up her immunity deserves to lose.[1]
It is revealed that Katie and Sadie are from Toronto, Ontario.
This is the first time Chris doesn't recap the previous episode.
This episode is similar to the Aftermaths in the second and third seasons in that it focuses mainly on the eliminated contestants.
Every relationship except Izzy and Owen's has at least one reference in this episode.
This is the last episode of the season in which a contestant is eliminated by vote. Duncan would be chosen for elimination by Chef Hatchet, Heather would lose in a sudden death challenge, and Gwen and Owen would be the finalists for the season.
Continuity[]
This is the second episode of Total Drama Island without a challenge.
Courtney has found out about Harold rigging the votes that led to her elimination and is filing a lawsuit against the show.
This is the second episode to feature female nudity (Izzy, in the pool, pulls her swimsuit out of the water and realizes it is hers. She dives back in, and her censored buttocks are briefly seen).
This is the second episode in which a camper is voted off without a campfire ceremony, the first being "That's Off the Chain!"
It is also the third episode in which a camper is eliminated without a vote.
This makes them the last of the six couples on Total Drama Island to kiss.
References[]
The title of this episode may be a parody of the French phrase "haute couture", which translates to "high sewing" or "high dressmaking".
Goofs[]
Harold claims that Duncan gave him the underwear sandwich in "If You Can't Take The Heat…" when it was actually Geoff who gave it to him.
Chris' jet ski changes colors almost completely from when he leaves the camp to when he arrives at Playa Des Losers. When he leaves, it is red with black accents. When he returns from the theme song, it is pink with purple and green accents.
When Courtney says she wants Duncan to win, Katie is wearing her normal clothes. There were also lip sync errors, as Courtney's voice is heard, but Lindsay's mouth moves.
When Courtney is talking about Duncan, she is holding the lamppost that she just hit Harold with. In the very next scene, when Harold is talking about Duncan, it is shown wrapped around him.
In the flashback of Heather being attacked by Harold's ant farm, the bunny on her pajama shirt appears to be missing, so it looks like it is afterward.
In the flashback of Courtney and Duncan cuddling from "The Sucky Outdoors," Harold is nowhere to be seen.
In the flashback where Courtney and Duncan are stealing food from Chef's fridge, Ezekiel's face is missing from the milk carton.
When the losers are gathered around the pool talking about who they would vote for to win, Trent is holding his guitar. When Chris shows up, it is nowhere to be seen. It reappears as Courtney scolds Katie and Sadie for voting Leshawna out.
Trent and Courtney also overlap while sitting next to each other, making it look like Courtney is sitting on his hand.
During Ezekiel's introduction, his arm overlaps the railing of the pool steps.
When Sadie is swimming in the pool, she is shown barefoot. However, she is seen wearing her regular sandals just before she falls in, as well as after she gets out.
In the flashback where Owen belches the alphabet, he ends the alphabet with the American "Zee", even in the Canadian version of the show, though the original episode ("Not Quite Famous") used the Canadian "Zed".
Noah takes off his shirt and puts it on the bar after Sadie accidentally splashes him. However, the shirt disappears in later scenes.
Izzy's bracelet is either on her left wrist (instead of her right) or missing for the entire episode.
Noah is seen reading a book before Izzy teases him about kissing Cody. After the flashback, however, the book he is holding disappears.
In the scene where Harold asks Trent for balogne, Ezekiel is nowhere to be seen, but he somehow appears in the scene later when he calls Harold a traitor.
When Cody, Trent, Courtney, Harold, Ezekiel, and Izzy gasp about Katie and Sadie wanting to vote Leshawna out, Ezekiel has his sunglasses on, but when Izzy tells everyone not to vote her off, his sunglasses are gone.
When Courtney and Harold fight, Izzy's belly button is missing.
