Conner Bethune

Conner Bethune is a contestant from Australian Survivor (2016).

Having watched every episode of the show, Conner came into the game as a superfan and formed the first alliance with Flick Egginton in the Saanapu tribe. However, after the alliance’s target, Kylie Evans, found an idol, the members of the Saanapu Alliance were compelled to turn on each other. Realising Flick was deciding between voting him or fellow alliance member Matt Tarrant out, Conner attempted to blow up Flick's game. The tribe was split at what turned out to be a surprise tribe swap vote, where the votes were tied twice. Instead of drawing rocks, Conner elected to switch tribes and took Sam Webb with him, sending them both to the Vavau tribe. After Vavau lost many Immunity Challenges consecutively, Vavau's numbers were reduced from nine to three members. Conner managed to survive until the merge, where Flick Egginton and her alliance wanted him gone immediately. Conner tried to gather the numbers to overpower them, but the majority alliance split the votes, sending him home.

He may be the youngest castaway, but 23-year-old Conner isn't going to let age get in his way.

Conner is currently studying a post-graduate law degree and has volunteered as a United Nations youth facilitator and as a local firefighter in his hometown of Castlemaine, Victoria.

A real go-getter with a thirst for knowledge, Conner recently moved to Canberra to further his studies and dreams of a career in foreign affairs and diplomacy. He still returns home every university holiday to work at the local bacon factory.

Conner grew up in a remote area of Central Victoria and spent a few years living in a caravan while his parents were building their property, so he is quite used to roughing it. Conner knows what he wants. "I hope to win. I want the money and could really use it to supplement my education. But first, I'd take my parents on a holiday because God knows they need one."

Growing up, Conner was a talented soccer player and thinks his speed will be a great advantage in the competition. The hardest thing he has done is completing the walking track, Camino de Santiago, through France and Spain but he has recently upped his overall fitness in preparation for Australian Survivor.

"I started a training regime and have started going to the pool every second day for swimming challenges, and also eating a lot more than I normally would for energy boosts."

In his spare time, Conner spends a lot of time playing chess, political strategy games, playing poker and watching Survivor: "I'm a massive Survivor fan. I think I can win because I'm unassuming and people will underestimate me."^[1]

^1 In "Episode 5", Vavau and Saanapu were subjected to a joint and mock Tribal Council where the players they voted out were switched to the other tribe. Conner ultimately received enough votes to be swapped to the other tribe.
