Chopper Man (チョッパーマン, Choppāman?), alternatively spelled as Chopperman, is a One Piece spin-off franchise based around a character of the same name, who is a superhero counterpart of Tony Tony Chopper. Chopper Man originally appeared in Chopper's yonkoma strip featured in Luffy Pirates 4-Cell Theatre created for One Piece Blue: Grand Data File.
The other Straw Hat Pirates also have their own counterparts in the Chopper Man universe, featured in various different roles, though most act as villains. The story parodies the superhero and sentai genres, as well as One Piece itself.
The Chopper Man franchise encompasses the original yonkoma strip, a Straw Hat Theater omake and its anime adaptation, a special episode of the anime, two spin-off manga series, a special chapter of One Piece Party, and more.
Works[]
4-Cell Strip[]
- Further information: Luffy Pirates 4-Cell Theatre#Tony Tony Chopper
A giant robot attacks the city, forcing the people to turn to Chopper Man to save them. But when Chopper Man decides to imagine himself riding the robot instead of fighting it, nothing gets done.
This is the first Chopper Man work, though it lacks much of the common elements present in later works.
Chopper Man (Straw Hat Theater)[]
The evil Dr. Usodabada, fed up with being unable to defeat Chopper Man, sends his minions to capture Chopper Man's assistant, Namifia. However, they instead bring back Chopper Man himself, who befriends Dr. Usodabada's giant fighting robot, Giant Luffy Bomber and destroys the evil doctor's hideout.
This omake, which features Chopper Man exclusively, is the 6th omake in the Straw Hat Theater series. It was later adapted into Episode 279 of the anime.
This installment marks the first time the other Straw Hats are seen within the Chopper Man universe, and it acts as the basis for the majority of the later Chopper Man works. The characters from this omake later appeared on the color spread of Chapter 405.
Chopper Man Departs! Protect the TV Station by the Shore[]
A special episode of the anime based entirely around Chopper Man. In this episode, the characters from the omake are joined by the giant robot Frangashan, played by Franky.
Additionally, there were a few cameos in this episode, such as Johnny, Yosaku, and Porche, who made an appearance in Zorokiller's show.
The episode is an original story, and continues where Oda's omake left off.
Chopperman: Go Go! Everyone's Chopper-sensei[]
A spin-off manga by Hirofumi Takei, published in the earliest Saikyo Jump issues before it became an independent magazine. In this setting, Chopper has a public identity as a teacher. The chapters have been collected into a single volume.
Chopperman (Spin-Off Manga)[]
Another spin-off manga simply titled Chopperman, which replaced the previous manga in Saikyo Jump when the magazine was fully established. It is also authored by Hirofumi Takei and ran in the magazine between 2011–2014. It has been collected into five volumes.
Chopper Man for the New World[]
Dr. Usodabada wants to get revenge on Chopper Man, and proceeds to lure him to his newly-rebuilt hideout and attack him once again. However, Chopper Man beats all of his officers, and Dr. Usodabada dissolves the Dabada-gang.
This is a special chapter of the One Piece Party spin-off manga, based around Chopper Man.
This chapter continues in the same storyline as Oda's omake, rather than continuing either dedicated spin-off series.

- For detailed information about Chopperman: Go Go! Everyone's Chopper-sensei's version of characters, see Chopperman: Go Go! Everyone's Chopper-sensei#Characters.
In most iterations of Chopper Man, the characters remain largely the same, with only small differences. This section lists recurring characters and characters unique to one-off Chopper Man stories.
Chopper Man[]
Chopper Man (チョッパーマン, Choppā man?), the "Champion of Justice" (正義の味方, Seigi no Mikata?), is the hero of the story, who uses his Chopper Cape (チョッパーマント, Choppā Manto?) to fly and save the world. His ultimate weapon is his cuteness, which he uses through his ultimate attack, the "Kyuun Spark" (キューンスパーク, Kyūnsupāku?). If his enemy does not care about cuteness, he will resort to "Chopper Violence" (チョッパーバイオレンス, Choppā Baiorensu?). He is obsessed with giant robots, particularly those used by the enemy to wreck havoc on innocent civilians.
Air Force C[]
Although he can fly with the cape, Chopper Man also has a private jet, the Air Force C (Eafōsu C?). However, it is actually a 10 cm long plastic model, so he can't ride it.
In Chopperman, Chopperman also owns a jet version of the Air Force C. While the abilities of the real jet are unknown, the model includes multiple weapons, such as cannons and missile launchers.
In Chopperman and Chopper Man for the New World, Chopper Man has a tendency to take the Air Force C with him when he flies out on missions, pretending that he's being pulled by it.
Namifia[]
Namifia (ナミフィア, Namifia?) is Chopper Man's "lovely assistant", based on Nami. Resembling a secretary, with glasses and a wireless headset, she appears to be Chopper Man's manager. Namifia is greedy like her alter ego.
In Chopperman: Go Go! Everyone's Chopper-sensei, Namifia is replaced by Ms. Nami (ナミ技長先生, Nami-waza-chō sensei?), the director of the elementary school where Chopperman works.
Dr. Usodabada[]
Dr. Usodabada (Dr.ウソダバダ, Dokutā Usodabada?) is the main villain and the "Embodiment of Evil" (悪の権化, Aku no Gonge?), based on Usopp. Aside from looking exactly like Usopp, Dr. Usodabada is dressed in a doctor's coat, with a cape and a handlebar mustache. He resides in an evil castle, with comically bent towers and cliché lightning crashing behind it. Although he acts much as his alter ego, he is still humorous.
Giant Luffy Bomber[]
The Giant Luffy Bomber (ジャイアントルフィボンバー, Jaianto Rufi Bonbā?), based on Monkey D. Luffy, is a giant robot with a height of 50 meters stationed outside of Dr. Usodabada's castle, and acts as his secret, ultimate weapon. The Luffy Bomber appears to be covered in various guns.
In the Straw Hat Theater omake, Chopper Man befriends the Luffy Bomber and it destroys Dr. Usodabada's castle, but it is then sold by Namifia. In later stories, it either returns to Dr. Usodabada or is reacquired by Namifia. In alternate stories, it commonly remains an ally of Chopper Man.
In Chopperman: Go Go! Everyone's Chopper-sensei, the Luffy Bomber was destroyed by Chopperman, and rebuilt as the "New Giant Luffy Bomber" (新ジャイアントルフィボンバー, Shin Jaianto Rufi Bonbā?) by Dr. Usodabada.
Usodaba-gang's Three Villains[]
The Usodaba-gang's "Three Villains" (ウソダバ団“三悪人”, Usodaba-dan "San'akunin"?) are Dr. Usodabada's main monster force.
Zorokiller[]
Onigiri Mystery Man Zorokiller (おにぎり怪人 ゾロギラー, Onigiri Kaijin Zorokilã?), based on Roronoa Zoro, is a monster with a fundoshi, the number "1111" across his chest, a metal nose, and an onigiri for a head.
Sanjirops[]
Perverted Monster Sanjirops (エロ怪獣・サンジロプス, Ero Kaijū Sanjiropusu?), based on Sanji, is him in a lizard suit. He constantly appears smoking three cigarettes.
He claims he is not a pervert, but frequently thinks about perverted things. He has no mercy for men.
Robiflowan[]
Flower Mystery Woman Robiflowan (お花怪人ロビフラワン, Hana Kaijin Robifurawan?), based on Nico Robin, is a scantly clad warrior queen with six arms and large flower petals adorning her helmet.
She is always affected by the Kyuun Spark. In many of the later Chopper Man stories, she joins Chopper Man's side after being affected by it.
Usodaba-gang Soldiers[]
The Usodaba-gang Soldiers are the common footsoldiers working under Dr. Usodabada. They vary depending on the story, but typically wear full white jumpsuits with black collars and numbers on their forehead. In the Straw Hat Theater omake and anime versions, there were three of them, with the numbers 24, 38, and 51.
In Chopperman: Go Go! Everyone's Chopper-sensei, they are called Dr. Usodabada's Soldiers (Dr. ウソダバダ 手下たち, Dr. Usodabada Teshita-tachi?), and are comprised of three unnamed soldiers loyal to Dr. Usodabada. They don't fully believe in his abilities or goals, but follow him anyways, being the only people to remain loyal.
In Chopperman, they are completely unnamed, and consist of a larger number of faceless soldiers. They are primarily used in large-scale, swarming-type attacks.
In Chopper Man for the New World, they are called the Usodaba-gang Soldiers (ウソダバ団戦闘員, Usodaba-dan Sentōin?), and are made up of lower-ranked soldiers. They consist of Bepo (#1120), Killer (#22), Shachi (#47), Penguin (#425), Law (#715), Kid (#1110), and Pandaman (#PANDA). Law and Kid dislike their positions, being unenthusiastic about completing work, with Law even going so far as to declare himself the monster Onigiri Mystery Man Trakiller (おにぎり怪人 トラギラー, Onigiri Kaijin Toragirā?) as a copy of Zorokiller. They are later temporarily joined by Mocha (#64), Sind, Doran, Ally, and other children (#12, #39, #55, #125, and #831).
Frangashan[]
Gigantic Robot Frangashan (巨大ロボ フランガシャーン, Kyodai Robo Furagashān?), based on Franky, is a giant robot. He was built by Dr. Usodabada, and is used to fight the Luffy Bomber, but is easily defeated.
It is unique to Chopper Man Departs! Protect the TV Station by the Shore, but is actually based on Franky's appearance in the Space Time omake.
Devilky[]
"Good Mood" Devilky, the Pervert ("スカツと" 変態デビルンキー, "Sukatsu to" Hentai Debirunkī?) is a monster in the Dabada-gang based on Franky. Like his alter ego, he is proudly a pervert, and is a cyborg powered by cola. His primary attack consists of taking a bottle of cola (usually, but not always, stolen from the attack's recipient), shaking it 100 times, and opening it back in his opponent's face. However, when someone refuses to take the cola back, he becomes incredibly depressed, and instantly becomes the weakest monster with an attack and defense of zero. He looks very similar to Franky after the timeskip, with large horns and a small cape.
He is unique to Chopper Man for the New World, but was personally designed by Oda.
Count Broubon[]
Count Broubon (ブルボーン伯爵, Burubōn Hakushaku?), based on Brook, is the Chief of Staff of the Dabada-gang, and a capable fighter in his own right. Like his alter ego, he likes to ask women to see their panties, and always finishes by getting hit by them. However, unlike his alter ego, if he gets hit after a rejection his soul will forcefully leave his body for three minutes. His soul will also forcefully leave if he gets shocked or scared suddenly. He has a bomb on his head, though it cannot explode as that would be too dangerous, and an extremely long cloak that people always step on by accident, forcing him to stay in place.
He always wears a white tuxedo and a long black cloak, trailing onto the floor behind him. He also has a bomb on his head, though it can never go off, and white gloves.
He is unique to Chopper Man for the New World, but was personally designed by Oda.
Garp Accident[]
Garp Accident (ガープアクシデント, Gāpu Akushidento?) is the grandfather of the Giant Luffy Bomber, just like his alter ego, Garp. He is the only person that the Giant Luffy Bomber is afraid of, and can instantly subdue him with his presence alone. He wears a Vice Admiral's Marine uniform, with boxing gloves, a dog hat, and a bone in his mouth.
He is unique to Chopper Man for the New World.

Locations[]
There are two recurring locations in the Chopper Man franchise, Usodaba-gang's Evil Base (ウソダバ団悪の基地, Usodaba-dan Aku no Kichi?) and Chopper Man's base.
Of the two, the Usodaba-gang's Evil Base is much more consistently represented. Having first appeared in the Straw Hat Theater omake, it was designed by Eiichiro Oda directly, and all subsequent Chopper Man works that included the location chose to represent it in the same way. It appears as a large castle in a dark, gloomy environment, with constant lightning crashing around it.
Chopper Man's base is the unnamed headquarters used by Chopper Man and his allies. Unlike Usodaba-gang's Evil Base, it was barely represented in the Straw Hat Theater omake; as such, the later Chopper Man works treated its appearance differently.
In the omake, the only part of the hideout is a small wall section hidden from view by most of Namifia's body, seemingly in a large field area. In an attempt to faithfully adapting this, both anime versions depict the base as a large house in an open area. In Chopperman, which takes place in its own world, the base is represented completely different; initially as a large model of Chopperman, and after its reconstruction, as a large plain building. Interestingly, in Chopper Man for the New World, Chopper Man's base more closely follows Chopperman's initial depiction, appearing as a large model of Chopper Man after the timeskip.
