HandSlap

A Hand Slap.

A Hand Slap, also called ground-pound[1] is an attack performed by Donkey Kong in the Super Smash Bros. series. It is his down B attack, and when executed will cause Donkey Kong to pound the ground continuously until you wish for him to stop. So far, the attack has appeared in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.

Changes between iterations[]

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, the move has been changed that it hits the opponent if performed in the air.

Usage[]

It can be used to clear opponents easily as it has a large radius with some decent knockback. It is particularly effective for things like Multi-Man Brawl. Otherwise, he is pretty open to any aerial attack. The move is good for edgeguarding as recovering characters likely don't have their third jump and it has a large radius in front so Donkey Kong can be relatively safe from edge attacks.

The attack can be used to spike on 3DS/Wii U at higher percents but there are better options.

Origin[]

It is inspired by an attack that Donkey Kong did in the Donkey Kong Country series.

Customizations[]

There are two alternate forms of this attack with the 4th iteration of the series. They are:

  • Focused Slap - this customization sacrifices range for better launching power and stunning opponents when it hits.
  • Hot Slaps - this customization sacrifices damage and launch to hit opponents in the air with fire pillars.
