Zakuro (ザクロ Zakuro), inmate number 1396, is a supporting character exclusive to the Nanbaka Web Manga series. He is another research subject of the Man with the Scar.
Appearance[]
Zakuro is a slim and muscular young man of average height. He has round, silver-grey eyes with a spiral pattern and short, light grey hair. He wears pomegranate-red colored shackles on his neck, arms, and legs, which once activated transform to two red spiral drills, chance the front parts of his hair to pomegranate-red, and covers his face in a red eye mask. He wears a black shirt being covered by a dark gray sweater slightly ripped by the elbows. On the top left side of his eye, he has his inmate number "396" tattooed on his face.
He has been remarked to be "as cute as Shin Sauzando is handsome" by one of Shin's admirers.[1]
Personality[]
Zakuro is rather childish and quiet. He is unused to socializing, which results in him being nervous around others. He is also a rather paranoid individual, believing that everyone around him is apart of a group of people out to get him. Before Jyugo convinced him to stay at the prison Zakuro was hopeless, believing that he had no future nor the ability to obtain what Jyugo had gotten so easily.[2]
Background[]
He was formerly Ikkaku's roommate in Nanba Prison but he moved cells and prisons at an unknown date.
Plot[]
Zakuro says that he has found Jyugo and that he is happy to see him. He introduces himself as prisoner No. 396 and that he can call him "Zakuro". He says that he came to Nanba Prison to meet him and that he will get started.[3] Zakuro's red shackles suddenly transform into drills, which Jyugo notes. Jyugo demands to know why he has done something without warning while Zakuro suggests that he could have just used his blades, and says that there is no point fighting if he doesn't. Zakuro then tells Uno, Rock and Nico that he has business with Jyugo and says twice that they must leave him alone because it has nothing to do with them. He adds on that he might have to kill them. Zakuro then sees Jyugo's shackles turning into blades.[4]

- "Za" has the same phonetic symbols in the Japanese language for "Sa" reference to "San" Japanese number three his number, "Ku" means nine, and "Ro" means six his inmate number.
- "Zakuro" is also Japanese for pomegranate, a reference to the color of his shackles.
