Multiverse Discovered
"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as "Framework".

"Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D.."
Patriot[src]

The Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division, better known by its acronym S.H.I.E.L.D., was an American extra-governmental counter-terrorism and intelligence agency tasked with maintaining both national and global security.

After collapsing due to long-term infiltration by HYDRA, the fascist organization that successfully established a new world order, S.H.I.E.L.D. reformed into an underground Resistance aimed at taking down HYDRA. Although they initially struggled to challenge HYDRA's reign of terror, the arrival of Daisy Johnson and Jemma Simmons inside their universe, the Framework, marked the beginning of a reinvigorated activity for the spy agency. As such, although their leader, Patriot, was killed during a mission, S.H.I.E.L.D. was able to progressively gain widened support, eventually turning the public against HYDRA. However, the organization and all its members were deleted due to Aida's destruction of the Framework.

History[]

"Even though S.H.I.E.L.D. knew she was Inhuman, they brought her back to the States and put her into a classroom. The rest is history."
Phil Coulson[src]

After imprisoning Melinda May inside the Framework, Aida recreated her life up until the mission in Bahrain. She then proceeded to erase May's biggest regret, specifically her decision to kill Katya Belyakov.[2]

As a result of May's actions, the virtual Katya was brought to the United States, where she became responsible for a massacre that would become known as the Cambridge Incident. The general public's response resulted in S.H.I.E.L.D. shutting down and HYDRA revealing itself to the world and taking over the country, quickly establishing a dictatorship. During HYDRA's uprising, 200 S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, including Jemma Simmons, were killed at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy. The HYDRA Observer reported that the deaths were due to a bio-hazard breach.[1]

However, the Inhuman S.H.I.E.L.D. leader, Jeffrey Mace, was given the location of the Playground by Billy Koenig and started the Resistance against HYDRA. S.H.I.E.L.D. took care for the Inhumans HYDRA searched for and hid them in the base.[3]

Once HYDRA agent Grant Ward discovered his girlfriend Skye was a potential Inhuman, he joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and served as an undercover agent for them.[1] He later brought Jemma Simmons and Phil Coulson to the Playground to meet Patriot and then flew to Holden Radcliffe who Skye had said could help to take down HYDRA. However, Madame Hydra and The Doctor came and took him with them. Later, Alphonso Mackenzie offered S.H.I.E.L.D. his help in the fight.[3]

Patriot and Coulson infiltrated the HYDRA Enlightenment Cultivation Center to rescue Antoine Triplett and recover a crucial information on HYDRA. At the facility, they freed some captives and children, but were interrupted by Agent May, who dueled Patriot and lost. An HYDRA Quinjet fired at a building where S.H.I.E.L.D. were rescuing children. Patriot sacrificed his life in order to save the life of his people.[4]

Winning over the Public[]

After Daisy Johnson escaped from HYDRA with May, S.H.I.E.L.D. found the two and brought them to base. There, they planned how to take down HYDRA. Coulson, May, Ward and Johnson took the HYDRA anchorman, Sunil Bakshi, hostage and had Coulson showing on television HYDRA's attack on the Enlightenment Cultivation Center and the heroic sacrifice of the Patriot. They succeeded and caused the public to turn against HYDRA.[5]

Deletion[]

Unfortunately, their victory was short-lived, as Aida, known within the Framework as missing dictator Madame Hydra, decided to shut down the Framework, erasing all contents including the people, HYDRA loyalists and S.H.I.E.L.D. subversives alike.[6]
