- "I know that you do not bring documents to disembark, so you will have to enter using your wits. As soon as they enter, Gamora will guide them to the records. Maybe there they can recover the password to override the switch and thus save the badger."
- ―Stakar Ogord[src]
The Infiltration into the Orgoscope was a mission manned by the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Ravagers, with the objective to secure an override code capable of deactivating a lethal kill switch implanted in Rocket, aiming to save his life following an earlier botched kidnapping attempt.
During this infiltration, the Guardians make the discovery that this code has already been extracted from the facility by Theel, a recorder working for the High Evolutionary. With this knowledge, the team escapes the Orgoscope's security teams and redirect course towards Counter-Earth.
Background[]
When Adam Warlock was sent to Knowhere to apprehend Rocket, he accidently fatally wounded him before being defeated, causing the Guardians of the Galaxy to find a kill switch implanted in him, preventing them from saving him. As a result, the Guardians located where his cybernetics were developed; OrgoCorp. The Guardians then took their ship, the Bowie, to see if there was a data base to help them revive Rocket.
Once the Guardians arrived to the Orgoscope, Star-Lord, Mantis, and Drax the Destroyer had begun setting up the Bowie's system to plow through the shields around the facility as Nebula piloted and Groot watched over the unconscious Rocket. During the setup, Mantis and Quill discussed his guilt over being drunk when Rocket was attacked, along with his refusal to return to Earth to see his grandfather. After the Guardians finished plowing through the shields though, the ship was disabled, with them learning that they were being boarded by the United Ravagers. As the Ravagers boarded the Bowie through Krugarr's portals, the Guardians prepared to take the huge group on; however, Quill began to try and talk them all down and Nebula reminded them that she had called the Ravagers through Gamora, much to all the Guardians' shock.
With everyone on the same page, Stakar Ogord explained to the Guardians that they needed to use their own ideas to infiltrate as Gamora helped them, steal the document for Rocket as Fitz-Gibbonok stayed outside to pick up Gamora afterwards. Meanwhile, Drax complained that the clothes the Guardians had to wear for disguise did not go with his eyes, causing all of the Ravagers to laugh hysterically as Quill questioned Gamora as why and when she joined the Ravagers, much to her annoyance. Eventually, the Ravagers disembarked the Bowie, leaving the Guardians and Gamora to carry out the infiltration.[1]
Infiltration[]
The Guardians of the Galaxy and Gamora, after gearing up into spacesuits, later jumped out of the Bowie to slowly descend to the Orgoscope, using the suits to grapple onto the facility. As Nebula used her arm to laser into the Orgoscope, Quill tried to isolate his and Gamora's audio to ask if she really could not recall anything that had happened to her, which she admitted that she could not, as Quill desperately tried to bond to him. However, the Guardians admitted to Quill that the audio had tapped into all of their suits, allowing them to hear the awkward conversation. Luckily, Nebula finished cutting through the ship into the decompression chamber, causing the Orgoscope's administrator Kwol to alert Master Karja and the Orgosentries of the sudden unknown breach, as the Guardians tried to sneak into the ship, with Drax briefly being lodged into the hole for a bit.
Knowing that the administrator would search the breach through the eye cameras, Quill hacked into the eye to make the room seem empty. Now suspicious, Kwol commanded Karja and the Sentries to get to the chamber, causing the Guardians to desperately take off and discard the spacesuits into a pod Mantis pointed out. As the Guardians finished ridding themselves of their spacesuits, Karja and the sentries arrived to see the Guardians, who claimed that they were maintenance workers that came to fix the hole before the Orgoscope was endangered, convincing the Orgosentries to let them go on, after indivertibly "bonding" with Karja working with a moron with Drax and one of the Orgosentries.
After Karja and his sentries left, Mantis saw and told the Guardians that their spacesuits were now floating out in space, causing Gamora and Nebula to argue with her after realizing that the bin they put the suits in was a decontamination pod. However, Quill told them that they would deal with this situation later, focusing on getting the document for Rocket, splitting up with Gamora and Nebula, as Drax and Mantis went to find the info pods.
Drax and Mantis made their way to the Orgoscope's lobby where they made their way to the guard, and to Drax's annoyance, Mantis used her empathic powers to make him fall in love with Drax and let them through. Meanwhile, Quill, Gamora, and Nebula made their way to the info pod station, with Quill bumping into Theel on their way, where Quill convinced the unimpressed Gamora to let him flirt with the worker, Ura. Making his way to Ura, Quill flirted with Ura by going by the name Patrick Swayze; however, Gamora grew impatient and forced Ura at gunpoint to give them 89P13's pod.
Meanwhile, Kwol noticed on the monitors that two of the "workers" were Drax and Mantis, who the High Evolutionary warned them of before. Taking action, Kwol alerted Karja and the Orgosentries of the intruders, causing them to surround the two, with Drax wanting to fight them off, while Mantis wanted to run away. However, Drax decided to fight them anyway, with Mantis using her empathic powers in conjunction with her Martial Arts to cause the Sentries to be distracted or fight each other, while Drax fought the rest.
During Drax and Mantis' confrontation, Quill, Gamora, and Nebula prepared to let Ura go when the guards surrounded them as well, causing Gamora to quickly aim her handgun at Ura's head again to allow them to go, much to Peter's annoyance as she was demanding them to attack and kill some of the guards, specifically Carrot Head to show that they meant business. However, they approached the elevator to try to take over the administrator office, with Nebula using her communicator to alert Groot to their situation and to pilot the Bowie to them, as Quill explaining to Ura how they were in the situation.
Eventually, the trio, along with Ura, entered Kwol's office with Kwol trying to talk them down. However, Gamora shot her in the leg, causing the workers to drag the screaming Kwol out to patch her wound. Meanwhile, as Drax was still fighting off and gloating at the Orgosentries, Karja used his riffle to hit Drax and knock the wind out of him, heavily wounding him, with Mantis running to get him away. Seeing this, Nebula ran outside to the lobby to help, only to be blasted herself, causing her to spit out blood in pain, as Drax was shot in the chest, furthering weaking him.
Knowing that they could not last longer, Quill begged Ura to allow him to use the monitor to talk down Karja and the others, reasoning that they were good people like her. Convinced, Ura activated and set up the monitor to allow Quill to use it, but Quill admitted that he only needed it to take control of the Orgosentries' suits, causing Karja and the others to be flown wildly around the room as the Guardians and Gamora escorted Drax and Nebula back to the Bowie after Groot crashed into the lobby with the record, before flying away from the Orgoscope as fast as possible.[1]
Aftermath[]
After successfully leaving the Orgoscope, the Guardians of the Galaxy watched the recording of Rocket's experimentation by the High Evolutionary and the recorders, as Nebula searched for any info on how to turn off the kill switch, much to their horror of learning of what Rocket had been put through. Unfortunately, Nebula could only find that the info had been downloaded and deleted by Theel and his track to Counter-Earth, with Quill recognizing him from the Orgoscope earlier. Enraged over what they have done to Rocket, and having the stuff they needed, Quill and the Guardians tracked the path to Counter-Earth. However, Gamora attempted to warn the others that Rocket was not worth the trek as the High Evolutionary was too powerful to go up against before demanding that they at least send her back to the United Ravagers. Although Quill attempted to convince Gamora that she would have done the right thing, only to be attacked by her before Nebula calmed her down as she angrily told Peter that she was not his Gamora before leaving.
Meanwhile, Adam Warlock and Ayesha arrived at the Orgoscope, and alongside Karja and the recovering Kwol, take in Fitz-Gibbonok and his pet Blurp after finding him outside the scope and learning that he helped the Guardians infiltrate. However, during the interrogation, Adam was pressured by Ayesha to show them that they meant business; however, Adam accidently incinerated Fitz-Gibbonok to death, much to Ayesha's dismay. Feeling bad over killing his owner, Adam adopted Blurp, also much to Ayesha's annoyance. However, Ayesha heard Fitz-Gibbonok's communicator go off with Gamora asking him to pick her up and giving them the Bowie's location, much to Ayesha's relief.[1]
Behind the Scenes[]
- According to Heidi Moneymaker, a focus in the choreography for the fight in the Orgoscope Space Park during the Infiltration into the Orgoscope was to give Mantis more flare and fun ways for her to fight.[3]
