Gamora Zen Whoberi Ben Titan is a Zehoberei assassin adopted by Thanos and raised alongside Nebula. In her timeline, the Time Heist orchestrated by the Avengers who had come from a different reality inadvertently enabled Gamora and Thanos to learn how the future could unfold. Acting upon the obtained intelligence, Thanos brought his armies through the Multiverse from his reality to the Avengers' prime timeline. Gamora then turned against him, helping the Avengers and their allies to defeat him. After watching Thanos and his army turn to dust, Gamora, now stranded in a different universe than her own, left Earth and joined the United Ravagers.
Three years later, Gamora reunited with Nebula and the Guardians of the Galaxy and aided them in infiltrating OrgoCorp in order to save Rocket's life. Peter Quill, the lover of her alternate self, kept attempting to trigger a relationship with her, much to her irritation. As the Guardians headed to Counter-Earth in order to confront High Evolutionary, Gamora joined the Guardians and fought alongside them. After fatally wounding High Evolutionary and rescuing his test subjects, Gamora departed from the Guardians and made amends with Quill before she returned to her position among the Ravagers.
Biography[]
Leaving Her Timeline[]
Meeting Another Nebula[]
Gamora and Nebula reunited with Thanos on a Q-Ship and were informed that he was preparing to send them to the Dark Aster under the orders of Ronan the Accuser to get the Power Stone. Gamora noted that Ronan will not be pleased with her and Nebula being assigned to him, but Thanos brushed it off, saying that Ronan's only alternative was death and that his obsession with the war was clouding his judgement. Nebula promised that she would not fail Thanos while Gamora only rolled her eyes in annoyance.
Suddenly, Nebula's synaptic drive started to glitch and showed a hologram of War Machine and another Nebula on Morag. Gamora then interrogated Nebula as to who that was in the hologram, to which she claimed not to know. Gamora assumed that her synaptic drive was damaged in the battle, but Thanos ordered her to be examined by Ebony Maw on the Sanctuary II to figure out the cause of her discrepancy. As she was examined by Maw, he realized through examining the file that another consciousness was sharing Nebula's network, claiming there to be two Nebula's, with one having travelled from another timeline.
Watching through Nebula's files, Gamora and Thanos saw the group of Terrans, whom Thanos recognized as the Avengers, before noticing that another Nebula was among them. They kept looking through the recordings, as Thanos realized that in the other timeline, he successfully collected the Infinity Stones and destroyed the half of the universe's population, while another Nebula and the Avengers tried to undo his actions. In addition, Thanos also watched an archived memory of his him being killed by Thor after which he revealed that he destroyed the Stones. This action unsettled Gamora, while Thanos gave Nebula the chance to prove her loyalty to him when Maw had attempted to execute her, believing that she betrayed his cause.[1]
Switching Sides[]
Having examined her memories, Thanos instructed Ebony Maw to travel to Morag so he could abduct the other universe's Nebula. Once Nebula was captured, she attempted to turn Gamora against Thanos early by telling her that her universe's Thanos found the Soul Stone, cryptically alluding to the fact that he had killed her alternate counterpart to obtain it.
However, Nebula was silenced by her alternate self who removed her superficial armor plate to resemble her and left to bring them to the main universe. They were then transported through the Quantum Realm to the main universe. After witnessing the destruction of the Avengers Compound, Gamora, considering Nebula's cryptic message on how Thanos obtained the Soul Stone, visited her to ask her about their relationship in the future.
Nebula opened up to her, admitting to the fact that she tried to kill her on dozens of occasions such as during the Skirmish on Knowhere, the Battle of Xandar, and attacked her on Ego's planet in her universe. As Gamora looked away, Nebula revealed that the two ultimately became close sisters in the end. Upon hearing this and realizing how much she cared about her counterpart from her timeline, Gamora freed Nebula, telling her that they could still stop Thanos from destroying her universe.[1]
Battle of Earth[]
Nebula and Gamora left the Sanctuary II and came to rescue Hawkeye in the ruins of the Avengers Compound, who was nearly killed by Nebula, who already retrieved the Nano Gauntlet. Gamora tried to convince her to change sides, claiming that she could change and be a better person. She refused, citing that Thanos wouldn't allow her to change, and attempted to shoot Gamora. However, Nebula was instead shot dead by her alternate self.
During the battle, Gamora saved Star-Lord, who was being overpowered by a pair of Sakaarans. Quill, surprised and shocked, mistook her for the Gamora he knew, believing her to have been alive. As he prepared to caress her face, she kicked him in the groin twice while warning him not to touch her as she had not encountered him before. Having learned of their relationship, Gamora was left incredulous that she chose Quill in the original timeline, leading Nebula to comment that it was a choice between Quill and Groot.
Later in the battle, when Captain Marvel had arrived to participate in the battle and was tasked with returning the Infinity Stones to a Quantum Tunnel in Luis' van, Gamora, along with Nebula, Mantis, Wanda Maximoff, Shuri, Okoye, Valkyrie, Pepper Potts, and Wasp, assisted her in fighting the hordes of Thanos' army. As they cleared a path for her, Gamora slashed a Chitauri Gorilla along the way. However, they watched as Thanos destroyed the van with his Double-Edged Sword.
Ultimately, the battle came to an end when Iron Man obtained the Infinity Stones and used them to wipe out Thanos and his army from the existence, at the cost of his own life.[1] Gamora observed as her newfound allies knelt to respect Stark's death. Electing not to follow their action as she wasn't familiar with anyone there, Gamora walked away.[2]
As Gamora had been wounded during the battle, she spilled her blood on the battlefield, which was collected by Nick Fury's secret Skrull unit and placed into a vial known as the Harvest alongside other enhanced DNA samples. The Harvest vial was later administered by Super-Skrulls Gravik and G'iah, granting them access to Gamora's physiology and abilities.[3][4] Additionally, Gamora's short time on Earth resulted in the citizens learning of her existence, and she was featured at the New Jersey AvengerCon.[5]
Joining the United Ravagers[]
- "So, you're a Ravager now?"
- ―Peter Quill to Gamora[src]
Sometime after the Battle of Earth, Gamora joined the United Ravagers and became quite close to them and considered them her new family, with her being one of the leaders of the United Ravagers alongside Stakar Ogord.[6]
Reunion with the Guardians[]
Helping the Guardians[]
- "That person was some alternate future version of me. It wasn't me."
"We loved each other." - ―Gamora and Peter Quill[src]
Gamora remained in touch with Nebula and was contacted by her in 2026 to help the Guardians of the Galaxy break into the Orgoscope to save Rocket, offering to pay her a hundred thousand units. Gamora accepted, and the United Ravagers boarded the Guardians' ship when they arrived at the met up. As the Guardians were given uniforms and informed on the plan, Peter Quill tried to talk to Gamora, but she rejected him, not remembering who he was.
Donning spacesuits, Gamora joined Quill, Nebula, Drax the Destroyer and Mantis on the mission, exiting the ship and landing on the Orgoscope. As they waited for Nebula to create an entry for them, Quill again tried to talk to Gamora, asking what she remembered about them. Gamora explained to Quill that the person he was referring to wasn't her, but he continued to express how much he loved her and hoped that there was a chance for them to get back together, but she told him there wasn't.[6]
Infiltrating the Orgoscope[]
- "Except, I didn't form the Guardians. And I barely left Thanos. Whoever it was that you were in love with, it wasn't me."
- ―Gamora to Peter Quill[src]
The Guardians of the Galaxy made their way inside the Orgoscope, only to be quickly found by Master Karja, but they were able to maintain their cover. Gamora then gave orders to the Guardians, splitting them up so that she, Peter Quill and Nebula would get the passkey, while Drax the Destroyer and Mantis accessed the spaceport so they could escape, having lost their spacesuits.
The three came across Ura, who Quill tried to charm for information, but Gamora decided to interrupt and aggressively forced Ura at gunpoint to take them to the files. As Ura brought them Rocket's file, Gamora and Quill argued over her actions, with Quill comparing her to his Gamora, which frustrated her. They obtained the file, but as they went to leave, they were surrounded by guards. Gamora used Ura as a hostage to allow them to escape into an elevator, where Quill unloaded all of his history with the two Gamoras to Ura.
Exiting the elevator, the three discovered Drax and Mantis fighting against the guards, so Gamora and Quill, with Ura still as their hostage, rushed to the security hub. Gamora immediately shot Kwol in the leg, despite her surrendering, causing Quill to call out her quickness to violence. Quill was able to hack the Orgosentries' suits so that they would uncontrollably float, ending the fight. They regrouped with the rest of the Guardians and made their way to the Bowie, with Gamora and Mantis helping Drax walk.[6]
Visiting Counter-Earth[]
- "Listen, I know you were always looking for a family. Okay? But my Gamora, the one I loved, she didn't find it with a group of criminals, she found it with us. People who care about you. I know that's who you still are. Somewhere inside of you..."
"What are you so afraid of in your self that I need to be something for you? I don't give a shit about your Gamora. Life made me me!" - ―Peter Quill and Gamora[src]
In the Bowie, Gamora and the Guardians of the Galaxy viewed Rocket's file which revealed the experimentation and torture he underwent. However, the override code to deactivate Rocket's kill switch had been deleted by Theel, who Gamora knew worked for the High Evolutionary, and she proceed to explain who he was. When Groot spoke, Gamora was confused how the others understood him, only hearing "I am Groot."
The Guardians found the High Evolutionary's coordinates, so they decided to track him down and recover the code. Gamora objected, as she knew it was a trap for them to bring Rocket right to the High Evolutionary, but they ignored her. Gamora demanded that the Guardians drop her off with the Ravagers, but they didn't have time. Quill then began to tell Gamora that the Ravagers weren't her family, but the Guardians could be. Angered by this, and being compared to a different person, Gamora attacked Quill, but was stopped by Nebula. Gamora then stormed off.
Gamora secretly made contact with Fitz-Gibbonok to have the Ravagers pick her up, and she sent her coordinates, unaware that it was Ayesha who answered. Arriving at Counter-Earth, Gamora stayed in the ship as the Guardians went to retrieve the code. While waiting, Gamora wandered around the ship, checking on Rocket, using the Zune, and looking through Quill's childhood backpack. As Gamora was using the toilet, an alarm went off, so she went to investigate.
Gamora found Rocket being taken by War Pig, so she pointed her gun and ordered her to drop Rocket. War Pig cooperated, but managed to catch Gamora off guard by flying straight at her and slammed her into the wall. Gamora chased after War Pig and attacked her from behind, but was unable to defeat her. As Gamora was about to be killed by War Pig, she was saved when Adam Warlock arrived and tackled War Pig. As the two foes argued, Gamora used it as a opportunity to escape, so she grabbed Rocket and ran away.
Suddenly, Counter-Earth began to be bombed, so Gamora rushed back inside the Bowie, where she found a scared Blurp. The explosions knocked Gamora across the ship, and when she looked up, she saw Adam Warlock before her, but he passed out, so she restrained him. Nebula contacted Gamora and told her to take off, but she didn't know how to fly the Bowie. Gamora was able to get it in the air, but could not control the ship and was about to crash into Quill and Groot. However, she managed to break just in time before killing them.
Quill and Groot entered, took control from Gamora and flew them away from Counter-Earth as it was destroyed. Once they were safe, they rushed to Rocket to enter the passkey to disable his kill switch. At first it didn't work and Rocket died, but they were able to revive him, and Gamora was moved by watching as Quill and Groot hugged Rocket. They then made contact with Nebula, Drax the Destroyer and Mantis, who were all inside Arête Laboratories and captured by the High Evolutionary, who demanded Rocket be brought to him.[6]
Fighting the High Evolutionary[]
The Guardians of the Galaxy prepared to rescue Nebula, Drax the Destroyer and Mantis, although Gamora suggested just giving Rocket over to the High Evolutionary. Groot spoke to Gamora, but she once again only heard "I am Groot." Star-Lord told Gamora she could stay behind, but she joined them to save her sister. Gamora then gave Star-Lord the polaroid of him with his family.
Gamora stayed with Star-Lord in the cockpit of the Bowie, while Rocket and Groot split off in two ships, and they all headed for Arête Laboratories. As they approached, Adam Warlock flew into Gamora and Star-Lord's ship, causing it to spiral. Gamora took Blurp as hostage, stopping Adam from attacking, and the ship crashed inside Arête Laboratories. Star-Lord dove to get him and Gamora, along with Blurp, out of the ship, having programmed the self destruct sequence to defeat Adam.
They were joined by Rocket and Groot, and they went to rescue the others, but at that moment, they were reunited with Nebula, Drax and Mantis, who were riding on Abilisks. Before they could leave, Mantis revealed that there were children imprisoned that they needed to save. Gamora voiced that they would die if they stayed on the ship, but Nebula insisted that they needed to save the children. Whilst they argued, Rocket went off to save them, so all the other Guardians followed, including Gamora, albeit somewhat reluctantly.
They entered a hallway that was filled with the High Evolutionary's guards and Hell Spawn, and as a team, they managed to successfully defeat every single enemy. Star-Lord made a plan for them to connect the hole in Arête Laboratories to Knowhere, so Rocket and Nebula went to pilot the ship while the other rescued the children. After freeing them from their cages, they were able to get all the children onto Knowhere, but they noticed Rocket hadn't come back, so all the Guardians went to find him before the ship exploded.
The Guardians found Rocket in a fight with the High Evolutionary, so they joined in, with each member landing a solid blow. Gamora stabbed the High Evolutionary with her sword, and holding him by the throat, she peeled off his mask, exposing his disfigured face as he fell to the floor. Rocket chose to spare the High Evolutionary, and informed the Guardians about the animals onboard, so they rushed to save them all right as the ship was exploding. They all managed to return to Knowhere, and Gamora watched as the Guardians all hugged, but did not join in.[6]
Leaving the Guardians[]
Gamora contacted the United Ravagers to pick her up from Knowhere, and as she waited, she calmly watched all the citizens. When the Ravagers arrived, Groot informed her, which she was able to understand. Groot told Gamora it was good working with her, and she returned the sentiment.
Gamora headed to the ship, where Martinex and Mainframe were waiting for her. Before leaving, Gamora spoke to Peter Quill, letting him know that she still wasn't the person he wanted her to be, but he had now finally accepted that and was happy with who she was. As she walked by him, Gamora stopped to remark that she imagined that they were fun together, which gave Quill comfort, as he told her they were. Although she was not his Gamora, she did feel the importance she had on Quill.
Gamora said goodbye to Nebula, with the two of them grunting at each other, as was their way of communicating. Gamora boarded the ship with Martinex and Mainframe and departed from Knowhere. They returned to the Ravagers, where Gamora was welcomed back by the crew, who were all rejoiced at seeing her back. Stakar Ogord hugged Gamora and welcomed her home, and the rest of the Ravagers all embraced her, which made her happy, as she truely had found herself a family that loved her in the Ravagers.[6]
Personality[]
Gamora, throughout most of her life, had been molded into a living weapon, and the only family that she knew and raised her were the people she considered enemies. Because of her assassin background, Gamora could be stoic, distant, and merciless to her foes or targets. During combat, she was aggressive and ruthless due to her tendency for war cries and her willingness to kill without restraint. However, she would often use strategy to avoid murder when possible, such as talking kindly to Nebula and convincing her to listen to her alternate version and switch sides, and even though they didn't get along, she still loved her as a sister to some extent, refusing to kill her, even when she threatened to shoot her.
Although she couldn't stand Thanos, Gamora still followed his orders without question but did warn him that something could go wrong. However, hearing the main timeline Nebula tell her that her Thanos found the Soul Stone and killed her counterpart to get it, Gamora began to question her adoptive father and decided to take a stand against him. Also, hearing how close the main timeline Nebula was with her counterpart, Gamora had a change of heart about her adoptive sister and came to care about her. Gamora even showed a selfless side as she saved Star-Lord from getting killed and teamed up with various heroine to help Captain Marvel send the Infinity Stones back to their timelines before Thanos could reach it.
Unfortunately, after Thanos was stopped, Gamora was stuck with nowhere to go in another timeline as she left after the Battle of Earth was won, due to not knowing everyone but Nebula. However, Gamora was taken in by the Ravagers as she joined them and became her new family, even though she still has Nebula in her life. Gamora also stayed in touch with Nebula as they talk whenever they weren't busy with their surrogates' families and teammates. In addition, Gamora values Nebula's safety as she fears losing her and would go extended lengths to help and save her whenever she was endangered, as seen when she refused to sit out when the Guardians went to face the High Evolutionary in order to save her sister and two of their teammates when they got capture for trying to rescue Quill and Groot, who escaped on their own. During her time as a Ravager, Gamora adjusted well to their custom and code, even accepting a job that involved getting paid. Gamora would only stay with the job that she signed up for or get paid, as shown when she helped the Guardians infiltrate Orgoscope in order to be paid. Therefore, once the Guardians got what they needed from Orgoscope, she wanted to leave the group and get back to the Ravagers. Gamora would even show a soft spot for her surrogate family and teammates, as shown when she happily hugged them when she returned from her mission with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Unlike her counterpart who spent a few years with the Guardians and was Star-Lord's lover, she was aggressive, annoyed and hotheaded with them, especially Quill whom she has no memory of. At first, she despises the Guardians and Quill, disagreeing their efforts in saving Rocket from High Evolutionary. However, after being shown footage of Rocket's past, Gamora was horrified of the tortures he went through and showed sympathy for him because of her experiences with Thanos. Also, seeing the Guardians' loyalty and dedication to Rocket, she was moved by their compassion and slowly became more attached to this group, as shown when she could finally understand Groot after their adventures together. Gamora even realized how much her alternate variant meant to the Guardians despite her rocky start with all of them. Moreover, Gamora was slightly impressed with the Guardians' skills in improvising whenever another plan backfired. Gamora even protected Rocket and stopped Adam Warlock from taking him. In addition, Gamora aided Quill and Groot in applying the pass key to bypass Rocket's kill switch. Before leaving to return to the Ravagers, Gamora told Quill that even though she was not the same version he had, she admitted that they could have been a fun pair under different circumstances, acknowledging the love that Quill and her variant once had.
Despite not showing them, Gamora did show other emotions as she struggled to keep her composure and nearly started to sob when Rocket's heart stopped. However, once Rocket's condition became stable, she smiled with tears flowing down her eyes as she saw Quill and Groot hug him in relief. This showed that Gamora could still be moved by extreme acts of love and devotion. Also, Gamora smiled in relief that Quill was okay when he nearly died from being in space for too long. Gamora also has standards as she was horrified and outraged when High Evolutionary had Counter-Earth and its inhabitants destroyed.
