But while storms are pliable things... at heart, they are indomitable.
Storm[src]

Ororo Munroe is a powerful mutant with power to control the weather.[2] Having been orphaned after a plane crashed on and destroyed her home, the young Ororo became a sneak thief on the streets of Cairo under the tutelage of Achmed El Gibár. As a teenager, she travelled through Africa, eventually reaching the Serengeti plains, before she settled in the Uzuri Tribe in the Kenya,[47] where she was venerated by the locals as a goddess for using her abilities to ease the droughts in the arid desert. Eventually approached by Professor Xavier, Ororo adopted the name Storm to join his X-Men, a mutant group aimed at implementing peace between humans and mutants.[2]

As an X-Man, Storm has had the opportunity to explore the universe in unexpected ways, rising to prominence in the group and being the leader of the team for years.[48] Her challenging experiences have led her to connect herself to violent aspects of her soul she had never believed to possess.[49] After losing her powers,[50] Storm embarked on a self-discovery journey to reconnect to the source of her abilities.[51][52] Later, she formed her own division of X-Men apart from Xavier's[53] with official sanction as a mutant police force.[54] Storm also has strong ties with the nation of Wakanda, being its former queen due to her marriage to the Black Panther.[55]

With the rise of mutantkind in interplanetary affairs, Storm assumed the position of regent of the newly terraformed Planet Arrako in its ruling faction, the Great Ring.[56] In order to act on behalf of the Arakkii people, she also assembled a Brotherhood,[24] waging battles in a war-torn world.[57] Back to her home planet, Storm has assumed an influential position as a popular mutant figure[20] which included becoming a member of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers.[58]

History

Origin[]

David Munroe (Earth-616), N'Daré (Earth-616) and Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from Storm Vol 2 1 003

Ororo with her parents

Ororo Munroe is the descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses, all of whom had white hair, blue eyes, and the potential to wield magic.[59][60][61] For many generations her maternal ancestors lived in the hidden village in Kenya and served as its leaders, passing the power from mother to daughter. Her mother, N'Daré, was the tribe's princess and meant to become their next leader, but she rebelled against this tradition and escaped from the village.[62] Instead she went to study in the university, where she met an American student David Munroe. The two fell in love and married.[63] N'Daré followed David to the United States of America, they settled in the Harlem and gave birth to Ororo.[46][64] Accustomed to being treated as a princess, N'Daré felt uncomfortable in America where she was treated badly for her skin color, and convinced David that they shouldn't endure it, and definitely shouldn't let their daughter grow up in such an environment. When Ororo was 6 months old David got an offer for a job in Egypt and the family moved to Cairo.[47][65]

David Munroe (Earth-616), N'Daré (Earth-616) and Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from Storm Vol 2 2 001

Parents' death

The family lived happily there. N'Daré told her young daughter stories about their lineage of queens and priestesses,[60] and about her grandmother, who had the same white hair and blue eyes and possessed legendary magical skills.[61] N'Daré also showed young Ororo the ancient ruby that was passed in their family from mother to daughter for countless generations.[66] David in turn told her stories about Harlem where they both were born and where they lived before moving to Cairo.[46]

When Ororo was 6 years old, a plane crash destroyed their home. Ororo's parents were killed, but she survived, buried under rubble near their dead bodies. This traumatizing effect left Ororo with the severe claustrophobia that still afflicts her today. Ororo managed to escape the rubble of her shattered home with nothing but the tattered clothes on her back and her mother's ancestral ruby.[47][67][19]

Street Thief[]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) and Charles Xavier (Earth-616) from X-Men Vol 1 117 001

Stealing from Charles Xavier

Homeless and orphaned, Ororo was found by a gang of street urchins who took her to their master, Achmed El Gibár. Achmed trained Ororo how to survive on the streets, begging, stealing and picking both pockets and locks.[47][68] At 6 years old,[69] one of her first targets was an American tourist. She stole his wallet, but the man proved no easy mark, as he was Charles Xavier, a powerful mutant telepath who used his abilities to stop the theft. At that moment, Xavier was psionically attacked by another mutant, Amahl Farouk (absolute ruler of Cairo’s thieves), and Ororo used the opportunity to escape. Xavier, who acknowledged she was a mutant from her brainwaves, declined to contact Ororo at this point, not wanting to shock the young girl with the true nature of her powers.[70]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) and Heart of Eternal Darkness from X-Men Vol 2 60 001

Stealing the Heart of Eternal Darkness

Achmed El Gibár extensively trained Ororo and within a year she became his prize pupil, the best thief in Cairo.[47][68] She stole to live and lived to steal. Itching to prove her skills, Ororo looked for harder targets and new challenges. When she learned about a treasure guarded in a mansion outside of Cairo, young thief infiltrated it and stole the Heart of Eternal Darkness. Unexpectedly once she took away the ruby, entire mansion exploded and killed everyone inside. Ororo managed to escape and proudly returned to her teacher to show-off, but was instead scolded. He took the ruby from her for safekeeping. Unknowingly to both of them, the mansion belonged to an immortal mutant Candra, and the Heart contained her life force and power.[71]

Ororo grew to hate her parents for abandoning her, and even refused to use her real name for several years, preferring to use name "Snow-top" that was given to her by other urchins. When she was 8 years old, she was sent on her first solo mission to steal a box from the museum. She successfully completed the mission and proudly returned to Achmed El Gibár. Inside the box was the photo of Ororo and her parents, and Achmed told her that great thief hides from others, not herself and she should accept her true name. She refused initially, but eventually thanked Achmed, mourned her parents and accepted her name.[11]

Street Urchins (Cairo) (Earth-616) from Ororo Before the Storm Vol 1 1 001

With Achmed's urchins

At around 10 years old[72] Ororo became experienced enough for Achmed El Gibár to trust her to lead two other thieves, Hakiim and Nari as a small team. During one of their missions to steal food for all the urchins, Hakiim was almost caught by the guards. Nari believed that it was more important to deliver the food, so she escaped. Ororo stayed behind to save Hakiim, but she couldn't do much to the guards. The kids were saved by their teacher and returned with him to their home, where Nari was bragging how good of a thief she was. Achmed, however, was disappointed and punished her for abandoning her fellow thieves. He also scolded Haikiim for yet another mistake and planned to punish him as well, but Ororo claimed that as the leader it was her fault, so she was punished instead.[60]

Soon, Achmed was hired by Desmond Barrett to steal the Opal of Ozymandias, a legendary magical artifact that allegedly could make its wielder immortal and invincible servant of an ancient mutant Apocalypse. The Opal was hidden in the Pyramids of Giza behind many traps, and was guarded by Apocalypse's eternal servant Ozymandias for thousand of years. Achmed sent Ororo's team into the Pyramids to steal the Opal. They worked together to avoid the traps, eventually reaching the hidden room full of stone statues, one of which was holding the Opal. Nari, took the Opal, but the statue holding it was actually Ozymandias, who animated all the statues to attack the kids.[73]

Ororo Before the Storm Vol 1 3 Textless

During the following fight, Ozymandias suddenly stopped when he saw Ororo and actually bowed and apologized to her. Young girl was confused, but Ozymandias explained that he can see the future. He showed her some of the carvings he made, depicting her future and told Ororo that she was destined for great things. She wouldn't remain the street thief forever, she was one of the chosen and one day would soar on the winds and become a savior of her people. He gave her the Opal and allowed the kids to leave. When they almost left the Pyramid a sudden explosion caused the ceiling to collapse. Ororo and Hakiim were buried under the rubble, but Nari managed to escape. She run out of the Pyramid, wanting to find their teacher for help, but was captured by Barrett.[74]

Buried under the rubble, Ororo was reminded about the deaths of her parents. Shock and fear caused her to tap for the first time into her powers and summon wind and lightning that obliterated all the stones around, freeing her and Hakiim. They escaped from the Pyramids and tracked down Barrett. They freed Achmed, Nari and other urchins, whom Barrett planned to sacrifice in order to resurrect Apocalypse. During the battle, Ororo remembered Ozymandias' words about Opal's dangerous power and tricked Barrett to activate it. Unexpectedly it turned him into a stone statue, "invincible and immortal", just like the legends promised.[75]

Ethiopia, Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from Marvel Team-Up Vol 1 100 001

Travelling through Africa

When she was about twelve, Ororo felt a strong urge to wander south and left Cairo.[47][76] Achmed El Gibár returned the Heart of Eternal Darkness back to her, before she left.[71] She followed the Nile out of Egypt into Sudan, reached Khartoum and continued to Ethiopia, wenting through many towns and villages on her way.[16][64] During her travels, Ororo naively accepted a ride from a complete stranger and was almost raped by him. Forced to defend herself, Ororo killed the man, and, from that moment, she swore never to take another human life.[77]

Wind Rider[]

Street Urchins (Kenya) (Earth-616) from Storm Vol 2 1 001

Ororo with urchins in Kenya

She travelled for almost a year[47] and eventually she reached Kenya and joined another group of child thieves. Their Teacher was a good friend of Achmed El Gibár and continued teaching Ororo. Her mutant powers started to manifest and sometimes she subconsciously controlled the wind to assist herself. She was scared by these incidents, as she wanted to be normal. She even stole a wig to hide her attention-grabbing white hair.[65] She became more prudent, and stole only things necessary to survive[17] and those that reminded her about her parents or gave her hope about a better future.[78]

One day Ororo encountered Claude de Ruyter on the streets, he had a camera that awakened Ororo's memories about her photojournalist father, so she stole it. Claude and his followers were armed, and tried to shot Ororo down. Instinctively she tapped into her powers and summoned the storm, distracting Claude and others long enough to escape. Claude, however, noticed her strange white hair and how her eyes went completely white for a moment, before the lightning strike, so he realized that she was a Wind Rider and decided to capture her no mater the cost.[65]

Storm Vol 2 4 Textless

Ororo and T'Challa

When Ororo returned to the camp of urchins, Teacher scolded her for impulsive actions. Despite being a good thief, better than other urchins and even than him, she had the same problem as her previous teacher Achmed El Gibár — lack of discipline and patience. Zenja, Teacher's own daughter, always disliked Ororo for being treated good by her father, and for being an American, who just pretended to be a child of Africa. She decided to sold out Ororo and help Claude capture her.[65] However, after hearing the constant babbling of Claude and his people about slaves and black people always betraying each other, she changed her mind. Zenja lead them in circles, but they eventually noticed it, so she escaped and cried urchin's secret code to warn Ororo to run away. The girls were almost captured by Claude, but were saved by Prince T'Challa of Wakanda.[19] They returned to the camp, where Ororo noticed how other kids were fawning over T'Challa and girls trying to seduce him.[78] Ororo, however, told him that he wasn't the "prince of Ororo, the king of Munroe". Impressed by her proud unyielding character, T'Challa called her "white lioness". The two left the urchins and spent days together, slowly falling in love and eventually spending the night together.[17]

Meanwhile, Claude contacted his brother, Andreas de Ruyter to get more mercenaries. They tracked down the urchins, mercilessly killed all the kids and the Teacher, leaving only Zenja, who told them that Ororo left with the prince of Wakanda.[17] Claude tracked down and captured Ororo, locked her in a coffin-like container made specifically by his father to suppress and control Wind Rider whom he was trying to capture 30 years ago.[79] Zenja freed Ororo from the coffin, she blamed her for the death of her father and other kids and tried to kill Ororo. As Ororo was claustrophobic, the time she spent in the coffin left her emotionally unstable, she instinctively tapped into her powers and electrocuted Zenja. She then tried to use the same attack on Andreas, but he resisted it. He captured Ororo yet again and used her as a hostage to force T'Challa to surrender. They both were chained and put on helicopter. On their way, Ororo unlocked the chains, but during the following fight Andreas and T'Challa fell out of the helicopter.[79] Ororo jumped after them, using the strong desire to survive and save T'Challa to forcefully awaken her powers. She stroke Andreas with lightning and then summoned powerful wind to hold herself and T'Challa and let them land safely. The helicopter crashed down, killing Claude and setting the village on fire, so Ororo summoned rain to put out the fire. Local people who witnessed everything asked if she was a god.[80]

After these events Ororo and T'Challa travelled together for some time,[16] until one day they accidently encountered Ulysses Klaw, murderer of T'Challa's father. It made T'Challa realize that he spend too much time outside of his country and had to return to fulfill his royal duties and also had to find and kill Klaw. Ororo was enraged by his decision and they break up badly.[63]

Goddess[]

X-Men The Hidden Years Vol 1 6 Textless

First encounter with X-Men

Ororo continued her travels around Africa, dispensing justice and helping people with her powers.[63] In the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania she was met by the Masai people who told her they have seen "the coming of the Goddess Ororo" in their dreams. She was at first confused, but then accepted this role,[64] and used her powers to help the local tribes combat the drought.[2][81] She settled in the Uzuri village in Kenya on the border with Tanzania, where she was taken in by an elderly tribal woman named Ainet.[82]

Once, when their village was going through a terrible drought, Storm commanded rain for days just to help them. By doing this, she threw off the natural order of nature, and droughts were formed over numerous other villages, and hundreds of animals were killed. Sensing the damage she had done, Ainet taught her to be responsible with her powers and how she could fix the problem by properly distributing rain.[82] Overtime Ororo began to question her role as a goddess.[69]

Worshipped as goddess

During another drought, the villagers formed a dam in the dry river, and Ororo planned to start a rain to fill it with water. However, her control over the storm was hijacked by Deluge. He used his own powers to drastically increase the storm in size, planning to use it to devastate the planet. The plane with the young X-Men, Cyclops, Jean Grey and Beast was caught in the storm and their crashed down. Ororo rescued Beast and brought him to her village. They then reunited with Cyclops and Jean as well and worked together to stop Deluge. Jean telepathically connected minds of Beast and Ororo, Beast explained to her in details how to use water droplets to form a giant lens in the sky and they focused it on Cyclops to let him absorb sunlight and channel it into optic blasts to attack Deluge. Deluge was initially happy to absorb more energy, but was quickly overloaded and then exploded. Ororo bid them farewell, and returned to her village. Beast suspected that she was a mutant, and planned to inform their teacher, Professor Xavier. Jean confirmed that Ororo was a mutant and told the reast that Xavier already knew about Ororo for several years.[83]

For several years she combated the drought in a large area of Kenya and Tanzania,[84][20] from the Serengeti Plains, to Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara[64] and Mount Kilimanjaro,[82] and in all other countries around the Lake Victoria[85] and saved untold number of lives in result. For her actions she was worshipped as a goddess[2][81] and the Wind-Rider, and became a local myth, remembered, respected and worshipped even many years after she left.[84][85]

X-Men[]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) and Charles Xavier (Earth-616) from Giant-Size X-Men Tribute to Wein & Cockrum Vol 1 1 002

Recruited by Charles Xavier

When the original team of the X-Men were captured by the sentient island being, known as Krakoa, Professor Xavier was left with no choice but to recruit Ororo and other mutants from around the world into the X-Men in order to rescue his original students. Xavier explained to Ororo that she was not a "goddess", but a mutant and had a responsibility to use her abilities to help the world, just as she had helped the local tribes. Curious, Ororo accepted Professor Xavier's offer and was given the code name Storm.[2]

After most of the original team left, Ororo, along with fellow new recruits Nightcrawler, Colossus, Wolverine, Thunderbird, and Banshee stayed as members of the new X-Men. This new group of X-Men were mostly adults and trained in the use of their powers in the Danger Room.[86] Storm remained with the X-Men for years. Storm was initially very naive when it came to the customs of the modern world, but her teammate Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), helped educate her in the ways of society and the pair formed a lasting friendship. Jean was also one of the first X-Men to learn of Storm's claustrophobia, after the two women chased a thief into the subway.[87]

All-New X-Men

Storm’s claustrophobia placed the entire team in danger when they battled Juggernaut and Black Tom Cassidy in Cassidy Keep. In the cellars of the ancient castle, Ororo felt entombed between the walls of solid rocks and went into shock. She could do nothing but cry while her teammates were butchered. Only after all had fallen did she find the strength to fight. However, it was only after the Juggernaut accidentally punched a hole in the wall and she could see the open sky again that she could free the team and turn the tide.[88]

In the Savage Land Storm encountered M'Rin at a dimensional interface point in a body of water. M'Rin and one of her people were in peril, being attacked by an aquatic dinosaur, and Storm saved them, killing the creature. Storm accompanied M'Rin back to her own dimension for a time, where time passed more quickly than on Earth, aiding her in battle and governing her people. Storm and M'Rin became close friends and M'Rin called Storm 'daughter of my heart'. When Storm eventually left M'Rin's dimension, M'Rin gave her a Cameo Crystal that allows Storm to get to M'Rin's dimension.[89]

Leading the X-Men[]

After serving with the team for many years, Storm was appointed the leader of the team following the departure of the former leader, Cyclops, after the apparent death of Jean Grey. Storm was initially unsure about her new role, but, with the support of her teammates, she soon became a capable leader.[90] Ororo began her friendship with Kitty first, by christening Kitty with her first code-name, Sprite, and even took her dancing at Stevie Hunter's studio.[48]

When Cyclops eventually returned to the team, Storm found herself doubting her leadership abilities once more, after a mission she led went wrong. However, Ororo soon asserted her position, reminding Cyclops that she was now team leader.[91] After sensing that Arkon was in danger, Storm, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four aided him in battling the Badoon. Storm and Arkon admitted their love for each other but decided that their responsibilities were more important.[92]

Later, Emma Frost switched bodies with Ororo, while Sentinels attacked the X-Men. After using Emma’s telepathy, Ororo was able to gain her body back. During a coupe, Ororo helped Cyclops and his father defeat the Sidri and then battled the Brood, Deathbird, and Admiral Samédàr to restore Lilandra Neramani to the Shi'ar throne. After battling in a duel between the Grandmaster and Death, Ororo, with Wolverine, infiltrated the Pentagon, to destroy the files on the X-Men they knew Fred Duncan had and, there, she first met, and battled, Rogue. Later, Ororo was attacked and hospitalized, only to find that Dracula wanted her for his bride. With the help of Kitty and the X-Men, Ororo shed his influence.[93]

Next, the X-Men were sent to the Savage Land, after Angel called and asked for assistance. In the Savage Land, the X-Men were captured, by Sauron and Zaladane, and rescued, by Angel and Ka-Zar.[94] Later, the X-Men went to Limbo, where they battled Belasco and were aided by a future version of Storm that was left in Limbo and trained in magic.[95]

Later, in retaliation, the X-Men were captured and taken into space by the insectoid alien race known as the Brood, Storm fought back but her powers flared out of control. The X-Men discovered that they had been implanted with a Brood egg that would hatch and transform them into one of the aliens. Not wanting to unleash such an evil into the world, Storm attempted to commit suicide by channeling all of the surrounding stellar energy into her own body, destroying the Brood embryo, but leaving her drifting unprotected in space. Ororo would have died in the vacuum had it not been for a member of the Acanti, a race of space-faring, whale-like creatures that had been enslaved by the Brood. The Acanti that saved Storm was revealed to be the caretaker of the soul of his entire race, who had lost his mother to the Brood and needed guidance. Storm agreed to let her consciousness guide the young Acanti, whilst it healed her damaged body, and, after the Brood were defeated, a restored Storm returned home with the X-Men. The X-Men returned home to battle the Brood Queen that was inside of Prof. Xavier and saved his life by transplanting his mind into a cloned body.[96]

After Professor X had a televised debate, with Reverend William Stryker, he, Ororo, and Scott were kidnapped, by the Purifiers. While in captivity, Ororo and Scott were tortured and hooked to machines, operated by Dr. Phillip Ramsey, that transferred their pain to Professor X. After Professor X was brainwashed, he fired mental bolts at Ororo and Scott, seemingly killing them, but Magneto and the X-Men rescued them, and Magneto resuscitated them. Professor X was taken to Madison Square Garden, where he was attached to a machine that, using his brainpower, would kill all living mutants. Magneto, with his psi-shielded helmet, was able to distract the Professor enough for the X-Men to destroy the machine. Televised, Cyclops entered into a debate with Stryker about his actions and Stryker pulled a gun, attempting to kill Kitty. Before he could fire, Stryker was shot down, by a police officer. Later at the mansion, Professor admitted that Magneto was right and began to accept his offer to join, until Scott stopped him and stated that he believed in the Professor's dream and will see it come true.[97]

After sensing Dracula's summons, Ororo went to face him again. Storm was commanded to steal the Montesi Formula and was opposed by a possessed Kitty and Colossus. With the aid of the X-Men, Dracula was defeated.[98]

Dancing in the Dark[]

Ororo vs Callisto

Soon after, the X-Men encountered the underground community of mutants, known as the Morlocks, who had kidnapped one of their former members, Angel. To save her friend, Storm challenged the Morlock leader, Callisto, to a duel and bested her in hand-to-hand combat. As a result, Storm became leader of the Morlocks, and she ordered them to cease their hostilities against the surface-dwelling humans.[99]

When the X-Men later traveled to Japan to attend the wedding of their team member Wolverine, Storm first met the ninja named Yukio and the X-Men battled Viper and Silver Samurai over control of Clan Yashida. A friend of Wolverine's, Yukio was the most carefree spirit that Ororo had ever met and the two became fast friends. Yukio influenced a major rebellious change in Storm's attitude towards life and she took to wearing leather and shaved her hair into a Mohawk.[100]

The X-Men again battled with Mastermind and then the Impossible Man. After, the team battled the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and the Morlocks.[101]

Lifedeath[]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) and Forge (Earth-616) from Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 226 001

Ororo and Forge

Storm later had her powers accidentally neutralized by Henry Gyrich with a gun invented by the mutant machinist, named Forge, who took it upon himself to nurse Storm back to health. During her convalescence at Forge’s headquarters in Eagle Plaza in Dallas, Texas, Storm and Forge fell in love, but their relationship was cut short after Storm learned Forge had created the device that stripped her of her powers. Later, alien Dire Wraiths invaded Forge’s headquarters, since he was working on weaponry to be used against them and Naze (Forge's Shaman instructor), Amanda Sefton, and Magik joined with Forge and the X-Men in battling them. Naze faked his demise at the barbed tongue of a Dire Wraith, letting it assume his identity and then fall under the mental control of the Adversary, sparing Naze from this fate.[102] Storm subsequently quit the X-Men and returned to Africa, where she finally came to terms with losing her mutant ability.[51]

When the Wraith home world, Wraithworld, began to approach Earth through hyperspace, the X-Men went to aid Rom and, with the help of Forge, banished them from existence. Before, returning to Cairo, Ororo battled Fenris, Andrea and Andreas von Strucker, in the Serengeti and then joined Prof. Xavier's newest team of young mutants, the New Mutants, in rescuing the body of Karma from being possessed by the Shadow King. During which time, the New Mutants met one of Storm's ancestors, Ashake, who helped the heroes return to their own time. After being briefly possessed herself, Storm and the New Mutants exhumed the Shadow King of Karma and Karma defeated him on the Astral Plane.[103]

While vacationing with the kids later, the group was subsequently captured by the Asgardian trickster God, Loki. After witnessing her battle hordes of demons,[104] Loki sought to use Storm in one of his schemes to discredit his half-brother, the Thunder God Thor, by giving her a hammer, Stormcaster, that would restore her abilities and making her the new Goddess of Thunder. With the aid of the X-Men and the New Mutants, Storm was able to reject Loki's gifts, thus thwarting his plan.[105]

Goddess of Thunder

Storm returned to the X-Men and defeated Fenris, then later found herself being challenged to a duel for leadership of the team by Cyclops. Despite her still being powerless, Storm won, and Cyclops quit the team.[106]

Following this, the X-Men came into conflict with Mojo when he de-aged the team, including Storm, into children. This briefly restored Ororo's powers, and her hair was regrown to its' original appearance, though she lost her powers and went back to her mohawk after she and the others were saved from Mojo's brainwashing by the New Mutants.[107]

Mutant Massacre[]

After battling Malice, Storm and Wolverine investigated the recently bombed home of Sara Bailey, Jean's sister, and Storm was abducted by Crimson Commando, Super Sabre, and Stonewall to be hunted. After defeating the Commando in combat, Storm decided that the X-Men would be more proactive and attack their enemies before they are attacked.[108] Storm suggested that she and Magneto join the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle both as the White King. The union between the Hellfire Club and the X-Men would give the X-Men access to all of the Hellfire Club's government secrets and protect the school, if the Marauders were to attack again. Storm decided that, in order to safeguard their friends and families from their many enemies, the X-Men must fake their deaths and become an underground proactive strike force. After Havok showed up to check on the X-Men, Storm ordered Psylocke to erase the event from his memory, but, due to Professor Xavier's mental defenses, he remembered and, after an initial battle, Havok asked Magneto to accept him as an X-Men and joined the team.[109]

The team was later abducted by Horde, to use as his lackeys to retrieve the Crystal of Ultimate Vision, of which he wore a shard on his forehead. The X-Men were sent to the Citadel of Light and Shadow, where the crystal was hidden. As the X-Men progressed through it, the citadel created illusions of each of their most powerful desire. Only Storm, Wolverine, and Psylocke were able to resist and, empowered to godhood, Wolverine rejected the god-like power and returned the X-Men and their friend's home.[110]

Unwilling to watch her die, Magneto went to Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) of the Fantastic Four to use a device that Mr. Fantastic had built to save Shadowcat.[111] Unsure of the outcome, Mr. Fantastic refused to help Kitty, even after the X-Men begged him, and the X-Men and Fantastic Four briefly battled, after Human Torch burned Storm's arm.[112] At that time, Dr. Doom presented his assistance and, under duress, Storm accepted.[113] At the urging of Franklin Richards, Kitty was cured by the combined efforts of Dr. Doom and Mr. Fantastic.[114]

Fall of the Mutants[]

Soon, Storm realized that she needed her powers restored and so she sought out Forge for his help. Ororo found Forge's old mentor Naze instead, who informed her that Forge had been corrupted by his nemesis, the Adversary, and was seeking to destroy the world. Unbeknownst to Storm, the Adversary had actually corrupted the Naze look-alike after the battle with the Dire Wraiths.[115] After a Vision Quest with Naze/Adversary, Storm finally located Forge atop a mountain, seemingly opening a dimensional portal filled with demons. Storm stabbed Forge in the chest, but then realized that he had been attempting to close the portal, not open it.[116] The Adversary then trapped Storm and Forge in the other dimension and seized control of Dallas, warping time and space in order to foment chaos on Earth. Storm and Forge spent a year on an alternate Earth, during which time they made peace and admitted their love for one another. During this time, Ororo grew her hair long again. Forge used components from his cybernetic leg to fashion a new device that restored Storm's ability to use her powers, which she then used to energize a portal back to their own world.[117]

Ororo and Forge rejoined the X-Men and were captured in Roma's Starlight Citadel that the Adversary had taken over. Ororo was released and, with the X-Men, gave her life to imprison the Adversary, with a spell used from Forge. However, the Omniversal Guardian, named Roma, restored the X-Men to life and freed the Adversary under the notion that there could be no order without chaos. The events had been broadcast over a live television news feed and the world believed the heroes to be dead. After being resurrected, the X-Men decided to use the opportunity to go underground and keep their rebirth secret.[118]

The X-Men resurfaced in Australia, where they defeated the Reavers. Roma appeared and presented them with the Siege Perilous, a gem that created a portal which granted any person who walked through it judgment and a new chance at life, with a new career, home, and so forth and had magically made them invisible to any sort of mechanical perception. Storm made another change in her outfit, replacing her leather jacket with a black suit with a lightning bolt across her chest.[119]

After Storm's Cameo Crystal sensed a disturbance, Storm left in the middle of the night without explanation to the Savage Land. Upon arrival, the Savage Land was scorched and barren and the X-Men followed and battled Garrok, in the armor of Terminus. After the initial battle, Longshot was lost and Storm's Cameo Crystal opened a portal to M'Rin's dimension, where Longshot was and the Fall People escaped to. Together with M'Rin's people, the High Evolutionary, and the Fall People, the X-Men separated Garokk from Terminus and with his sacrifice, restored the Savage Land.[120]

Lil 'Ro and Gambit

Soon after, the X-Men were ambushed at their hideout, by the crazed scientist known as Nanny and her partner, the Orphan-Maker. After attempting to flee, Storm chased Nanny's craft and was caught in tentacles, while Havok fired a plasma burst and downed the craft. A S.H.I.E.L.D. L.M.D. of Storm was found to ensure that the X-Men would not follow and Storm was assumed dead.[121] Storm was captured by Nanny, who sought to use Storm's abilities in her quest to liberate the world's super-powered children by making orphans of them. Nanny used her technology to de-age Storm to her pre-teens and strip her memories, so as to better sway the mutant to her cause. However, Storm fought back and overloaded Nanny's device. Once more a child with no memories of her life as an X-Man, the young Storm returned to her life as a thief. On one caper, Ororo found herself the target of the psychic being known as the Shadow King, but was saved by a fellow mutant and thief, named Gambit. The pair formed a partnership and, after Storm regained her memories, she took Gambit to meet the X-Men.[122]

Storm was eventually restored to adulthood after the X-Men were captured by agents of the island nation of Genosha who used mutants as slaves. Storm underwent the mutate transformation process, however, the Genoshan Genegineer and Chief Magistrate were members of a rebel faction. They restored Storm's body and mind, and the X-Men were able to defeat their aggressors.[123]

Storm's Gold Team

Under Professor X's guidance, X-Men and X-Factor were united, with Storm and Cyclops leading relatively independent squads, respectively baptized Gold and Blue teams. Alerted by Nick Fury, Cyclops' team investigated Magneto's recent activities and clashed with his Acolytes.[124] Abudcted to Asteroid M with Professor X and Moira, the X-Men were mindwiped to serve Magneto's cause. Storm prepared her squad to war against Magneto and the X-Men despite all the evident odds, with Forge providing the necessary technical support for the mission.[125] As the two squads of X-Men battled each other, Cyclops and his teammates overcame the brainwashing. Together, the X-Men thwarted Magneto's plans and returned home safe and sound following Asteroid M's destruction and Magneto's apparent demise.[126]

Contacted by Emma Frost about the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club being targeted for assassination, Storm deployed the X-Men to help, despite the bad blood she had shared with Frost in the past. The X-Men could not prevent a massacre by the time-travelling criminal Trevor Fitzroy, whose Sentinels murdered Frost's students, the Hellions. In the tragedy, Jean Grey fell in battle.[127] Lamenting the death of her friend, Storm was informed by Professor X that Grey's psyche had survived in Frost's body, which had been claimed by Fitzroy as a trophy for his associates, the Upstarts. The X-Men came to her rescue, fighting Fitzroy's army of criminals from the future.[128] Unexpectedly, an enforcer from the future named Bishop and his colleagues from X.S.E. interrupted the battle, leading Fitzroy to escape. Storm reprimanded Bishop for his reckless actions, but was still intrigued by his existence and cause.[129] Later, Bishop hunted down Fitzroy's gang of criminals with extreme brutality, catching Storm's attention. In his war, his comrades were killed and he was subdued by the X-Men. Professor X decided to have him join the ranks of the X-Men[130] under Storm's tutelage. His acclimatization was challenging since Storm opposed to violence as the immediate solution to problems; despite this, he was open to learn from her.[131]

Her obligations as a team leader deteriorated Storm's relationship with Forge, who was distant in his routine as an assistant to the X-Men. Unable to connect with Storm, Forge surprised her by asking her hand in marriage.[132] However, Forge grew uncertain of Storm's actual feelings for him and chose to leave the X-Men before she could accept his proposal. Their relationship ended tragically, even though Storm had decided to accept him as her husband.[133] It took them some time to overcome their hurtful break-up and see each other amicably again.[134]

In another mission, Storm had the X-Men assess a dangerous spatial distortion in Sakhalin. As a consequence, the team happened upon an alternate plane known as the Void.[135] Separated from the rest of her squad, Storm met Mikhail Rasputin, Colossus' long-time lost brother, who had gone missing in an operation as a cosmonaut. He informed her about the cataclysmic nature of the distortion through which the X-Men went through to access the Void.[136] With the X-Men reunited, Storm advised the traumatized Rasputin brothers to reestablish their relationship. This gave Mikhail Rasputin the inspiration to use his mutant powers to stabilize the Void access and bring himself and Storm's X-Men back to Earth.[137] Some time later, Callisto sought help in Storm and the X-Men as the leaderless and insane Morlocks tormented her to rejoin them. As a leader of the Morlocks, Storm took the responsibility of their crisis for herself.[138] The X-Men were able to stop the Morlock telepath who had triggered their chaotic behavior in the Morlock Tunnels.[128] However, an insane Callisto joined forces with Mikhail Rasputin to seize control of the Morlocks again. Rasputin flooded the Morlock Tunnels and chose to transport them to an alternate plane where they would not suffer discrimination for being different. The X-Men could not stop him, and Storm returned home to mourn the loss of her former protégés.[139]

Fatal Attractions[]

The machinations of the vile Stryfe involved infecting Professor Xavier with the Techno-Organic Virus and kidnapping Jean Grey and Cyclops.[140] Storm led her team to look for Apocalypse and his Horsemen, who were assumed to be responsible for the kidnappings.[141] Apocalypse was defeated,[142] and with him lied a chance to cure Xavier and confront Stryfe. Storm made the difficult choice of trusting Apocalypse[143] and ultimately thanked him for his contribution.[144] In a final strike, the X-Men triumphed.[145] However, as a consequence, the deadly Legacy Virus was released upon mutantkind by Stryfe.[146] As the Legacy Virus punished mutantkind, Storm had her team oppose the villainous actions of known adversaries in the form of the Acolytes and the Upstarts,[147] as well as new threats such as the anti-mutant X-Cutioner.[148]

While flying the Blackbird after collecting Vibranium from the Savage Land, Storm, Cyclops and Professor Xavier were attacked by Siena Blaze, whose spatial-disruptive powers tore Storm's connection to the environment. With no control over the frigid Antarctic weather, Storm collapsed, but was assisted by Xavier in regaining control. The X-Men recuperated to defeat Siena Blaze, having secret assistance from Magneto,[149] who was revealed to be alive, but also ready to get revenge upon humanity once again. Around this period, Storm spoke on the funeral of the young Illyana Rasputin, Colossus' sister who had fallen to the Legacy Virus. During the ceremony, Magneto and his Acolytes publicly revealed their extremist plans of endangering the world and building a haven for mutants in Avalon. The disillusioned Colossus defected and turned against the X-Men much to their horror.[150] Not only Colossus fell to darker ways, but also Xavier. He assigned Storm to betray their human allies and steal cloaking technology that was crucial to gain advantage against the Magneto. Storm became frustrated with Xavier,[69] who weaponized the stolen data to brutally put an end in Magneto by mentally incapacitating him.[151]

Reconnecting with her loved ones brought new enemies to Storm's life. When meeting Yukio in New York City, she was ambushed by the Phalanx, anti-mutant techno-organic creatures who targeted human allies of the X-Men to incapacitate them.[152] The two dear friends overcame the Phalanx with help from Gambit, though Storm questioned the morality of taking away her enemies' artificial lives.[153] On another occasion, Storm revisited Cairo to meet a terminal Achmed El-Gibar. When sharing her feelings with her mentor and parental figure, El-Gibar was attacked by the vile Candra, who wished to incorporate El-Gibar's band of thieves to her operations. As his last wish, El-Gibar asked his former pupil Ororo to prevent his children from being corrupted, especially the young man named Jamil who Candra had seduced for her cause. Alongside the X-Men, Storm fended off Candra and her army, but Jamil was lost. Achmed El-Gibar passed away, and Storm trained the courageous Karima, whom she related to, to carry on his legacy as the leader of the young pack of thieves of Cairo.[154]

Gene Nation[]

On the rise of anti-mutant sentiment, Storm had the X-Men investigate odd incidents concerning mutant attacks. They were then introduced to Gene Nation, a group of extremist terrorist mutants.[155] They were descendants of the Morlocks who Mikhail Rasputin had transported to another plane. In an accelerated timeline, the younger generation of Morlocks came to age enraged at the previous world that had failed them, wishing to have revenge at humanity for the massacre caused by the Marauders. As the Gene Nation, they returned to bring terror, being led by the ruthless Marrow. A desperate Callisto followed them and asked Colossus for help, who, in turn, resorted to the X-Men. In the Morlock Tunnels, Storm led the X-Men against Gene Nation. Blaming Storm's inefficiency as the leader of the Morlocks for their tragic history, Marrow attached several human victims to explosives. The detonator was placed inside her own heart. In a hand-to-hand duel against Marrow, Storm was challenged to finish her to save the hostages. Seeing no alternative, Storm ripped Marrow's heart out of her chest.[156]

Following this incident, Storm was tormented by thoughts of having failed the Morlocks, considering her decisions as a leader reckless for long-term consequences. In the ruins of the Morlock Tunnels, she performed the ritual known as the Ceremony of Light to honor the victimized Morlocks. This attracted the attention of Mikhail Rasputin, who abducted her to the realm he had taken the Morlocks to.[21] The X-Men were informed about her being dead by Cable, who was ultimately convinced to investigate her disappearance. In the harsh world known as the Hill, Storm struggled to tame the atmosphere, until succeeding in arriving at a fortress where Rasputin met her and offered her to guide Gene Nation at his side,[157] an opportunity she contemplated to make up for her past negligence. However, Rasputin was the real mastermind behind their terrorist acts and wished to destroy X-Factor's Headquarters.[158] Having turned against Rasputin alongside Callisto, Storm threatened to execute him if he did not transport her back to Earth, which was done as Cable performed the Ceremony of Light. All inhabitants of the Hill marched to the Morlock Tunnels, where Storm deactivated the bomb and knocked Mikhail Rasputin out. Callisto attacked Storm for her intervention, but was defeated as well, although saved by a very much alive Marrow. Rasputin ran away, afraid of displeasing his master Dark Beast. The Gene Nation ultimately demonstrated respect for Storm for her power and were granted a second chance. Rejoined to the X-Men, Storm was at peace for having solved the dire situation without resorting to murder.[159]

X-Treme X-Men[]

X-Treme X-Men Vol 1 1 Textless

X-Treme X-Men

Distrusting Xavier's idealism in regards to the prophetic diaries written by the seer Destiny that mapped the future of mutants, Storm gathered a splinter group of X-Men in order to look for the missing volumes. She cut ties with the rest of the team for her operation and subjected her team to the laws of humanity by leaving the protection of the Xavier Institute.[160] As their baptism of fire, Storm's X-Men were ambushed and captured by the Spanish Guardia Civil in Valencia. This was a trap envisioned by Vargas, a rival who had also had access to Destiny's Diaries.[53] Although Storm led her team to freedom during the battle, Vargas was able to slay Psylocke and brutally maim Beast.[161]

After this tragedy, Storm and the X-Men helped a community of Saurids to reach the Savage Land.[162] There, Storm was separated from the team during a plane crash and got kidnapped by the vengeful Brainchild of the Savage Land Mutates.[163] Brainwashed to be his emissary, Storm was devolved into a vicious and feral creature who attacked her teammates.[164] Beast defeated her and caused Brainchild's defeat. However, Storm was left scarred by such an encounter for having embraced savage aspects of her soul.[165]

Still mourning their losses when searching for Destiny's Diaries, the X-Men learned that Gambit had been accused of murdering the Australian crime boss Viceroy.[166] In their investigation, the X-Men realized Viceroy had feuds with the criminal Sydney Triad. Storm and Thunderbird approached Viceroy's mutant children, Heather and Davis Cameron, who were not aware of their father's identity. Storm helped Davis Cameron survive a shark attack while he was surfing and they started a flirtatious interaction. During a date, they were attacked by the Triad.[167] After defeating the assassins, Storm and Thunderbird revealed their identities and intentions to the Camerons and joined the other X-Men in combat against Sebastian Shaw and Lady Mastermind, who had subdued Sage. Storm then coped with the weight of the recent events with her friend Jean Grey's help.[168]

Cleared of the charges, Gambit shared he sought to guard Storm's mother's ruby as he had learned it was part of the legendary Madripoor Set of gems. When empowered, the set could open a portal between dimensions. However, the extradimensional warrior named Shaitan suddenly attacked the X-Men, securing Gambit and the ruby. The X-Men followed them to Madripoor, being greeted by its ruling prince Viper. Using the gems and Gambit's mutant ability to empower them, Shaitan opened a portal that allowed the armies of his superior, Khan, to pass through and invade Earth.[169] The X-Men captured Khan being unaware that he was the general in charge of the invasion. Khan became infatuated with Storm, especially after she saved him from Viper. As Shaitan led a successful mission to retrieve Khan, Storm was poisoned by Viper, something that allowed Khan to turn Storm into his prisoner.[169]

Warlord Khan intended for Storm to be his queen and commanded his physicians to heal her while Shaitan assumed her form to trick the X-Men. Growing to admire Khan,[170] Storm attempted to seduce him into calling off his invasion whilst her teammates fought to close the portal.[171] Unexpectedly, one of Khan's concubines, Jalene, grew jealous of Storm's advances and attempted to kill her by stabbing her with a dagger. Despite her severe injuries, Storm prevailed[172] and escaped, rejoining her teammates to destroy the interdimensional portal.[173] Following a final hand-to-hand confrontation against Khan, Storm was victorious and the X-Men saved Earth.[174]

As part of her subsequent recuperation, which required her to undertake physical therapy to heal her back and legs, Storm was confined to a wheelchair and counted with Wolverine's direct nursing. Jean Grey asked her team to move back to the core X-Men team at the Xavier Institute, but Storm declined, believing that there was still work for her team to do away from Xavier's influence.[175] Around this period, Storm's X-Men became the focus interest of the tabloid Spotlight. They were interviewed by correspondents Manoli Wetherell and Neal Conan as Spotlight's producer, Paul D'Antoni, wished to portray the X-Men as a threat to the world.[176] Unsuccessfully attempting to reason with D'Antoni, Storm learned his show had been cancelled due to the actions of the influential X-Man Archangel, head of one of Xavier's X-Corporation divisions. Storm exposed Archangel's secret actions to the public as a way to punish him for using X-Corp's privileges to operate under the radar in regards of mutant-human relations.[177]

The schism between Xavier's shady actions and Storm's mission under the human law escalated when a mutant pre-teenage teleporter named Jeffrey Garrett was framed for murder in Anchorage. Xavier Institute's headmistress Emma Frost sabotaged Storm's team's investigation to protect the suspect.[178] This allowed the real mastermind behind the murder, the mutant psychic predator Elias Bogan, to gain access to the X-Men.[179] A recovered Storm and her team took matters to their own hands by invading the Xavier Institute, where Bogan used the Danger Room in order to implement his plans of dominating Frost.[180] Storm and Frost ultimately called a truce to stop Bogan's attack. Though successful, they could not capture him.[181]

After being contacted by and recruiting Cannonball for her team,[182] Storm learned about Reverend Stryker escaping prison.[183] While investigating the incident, the X-Men were targetted by Purifiers; Storm used her powers to incapacitate them, but her control was disrupted by Kitty Pryde's effect on Earth since Stryker had used her abilities to carry out his plans. By tracking Pryde,[184] the X-Men infiltrated a mutant community in Mount Haven, where Reverend Paul used brainwashing to keep peace.[185] Storm was initially mind-controlled, but ultimately freed by Cannonball.[186] In the end, both Stryker and Paul sacrificed themselves and the X-Men departed.[187]

X.S.E.[]

Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 445 Textless

X.S.E.

During a world summit organized by Val Cooper to address the increasing hostilities between humans and mutants, Storm and Gambit furtively attempted to influence its outcome.[188] Attracting the attention of different politicians and government agents, Storm shared her intentions of protecting mutantkind from unfair institutional prosecution and offered her X-Men's services to the United Nations as a global mutant police force.[189] The proposal was approved, and Storm became in charge of a sanctioned strike force in the form of the X-Treme Sanctions Executive, or X.S.E.[190]

Before X.S.E. was officially established, Alexei Vazhin asked Storm to dismantle a slave-trading network linked to Tullamore Voge that forced mutants to fight in gladiator-style arenas.[190] In Tokyo, Storm contacted Yukio for help. They joined the Arena Circuit and became gladiators managed by Masato Koga. Storm soon ascended as a champion of the Tokyo Arena for having defeated Musclehead.[191] She was then contacted by Guido Carosella, a fellow gladiator who wished to protect her from being corrupted by the arena battles. Fighting for Koga, Storm confronted a champion from another arena, Callisto.[192] By losing the fight, Storm became a property of Callisto's owner, the former Morlock Masque. Masque used his powers to torture Storm.[193] For weeks, Storm acted as Masque's gladiator. Ultimately, Masque forged a deal with Tullamore Voge to sell Storm and Callisto as slaves. They then rebelled against Masque with Yukio's and Carosella's help, tricking him during the trade and shipping him for Voge instead and liberating the Arena's gladiators.[194]

Storm and Callisto returned to her X-Men, who at the time resisted Elias Bogan in Valle Soleada.[195] With Bogan gone, Storm and her team returned to Westchester to help rebuild the Xavier Institute following its destruction at the hands of a Magneto doppelgänger who had also murdered Jean Grey. Assembling her team, she offered them a position in the X.S.E.,[196] which some accepted. The rebranded team operated at the Xavier Institute. In one of their first assignments, X.S.E. clashed with the Weaponeers of Al-Khalad in the Central Saharan Republic.[54] In Washington, D.C., X.S.E. tended to an incident regarding a mutant teenager at a high school. Though facing adversities with local officers, Storm counted with Carol Danvers' assistance in earning credibility for X.S.E.[197]

Storm and her X.S.E. faced many different opponents, such as the cybiote hunter known as the Fury at Braddock Manor,[198] a vengeful Viper in the Murderworld of London,[199] the lethal X-23 in District X,[200] and the Hellfire Club's changing leaderships.[201] Unexpectedly, the Guardia Civil informed Storm about Psylocke's resurrection at the site of her death. Soon after, when looking for a missing Wolverine, the group was kidnapped by the Hauk'ka to the Savage Land. Psylocke and X-23 went to their rescue.[202] Meanwhile, the Hauk'ka attached Storm to a mechanism that tapped into her powers in order to freeze the world and obliterate life on it.[203] As the world succumbed to a brutal ice age, the X-Men freed Storm with Brainchild's help. However, the traitorous Brainchild tampered with Storm's genome in order to maintain the global freezing effect. Storm attempted to have X-23 finish her and stop the threat. Instead, the regretful Hauk'ka decided to stop the uncontrollable Storm.[204] Back home, Storm was reunited with her recently resurrected friend Colossus.[205]

Queen of Wakanda[]

Black Panther Vol 4 15 Textless

Ororo and T'Challa

Following reports of mutant animals spawning in Niganda, the X-Men went to investigate. Storm personally interacted with locals to retrieve information and eventually ran into Black Panther.[206] They battled the mad geneticist Dr. Erich Paine, who was behind the experiments on animals and managed to capture the X-Men while Storm and Black Panther dealt with raising tensions in Niganda.[207] Black Panther was targeted by Paine's partner, the Red Ghost, but was helped by his Dora Milaje, something that caused Storm to grow jealous. Storm became divided between immediately rescuing the X-Men or following Black Panther's risky plans. Storm went for the X-Men,[208] leaving Black Panther vulnerable instead. With Paine defeated and his plans foiled, the X-Men returned home, but Storm chose to stay in Africa to reconnect with her past and assist the people in need. Sharing a passionate kiss with Black Panther, she predicted their paths might cross again.[209]

Following the events of "M-Day," when the majority of the world's mutants lost their powers at the hands of the Scarlet Witch, Storm left the X-Men to return to Africa in order to safeguard depowered mutants. With the mutant population vastly reduced, X.S.E. was dismantled.[210] In Africa, Storm came into conflict with a Colonel named Shetani, who was hunting down and killing depowered mutants in search for Storm. When she finally confronted him, he revealed to her that he was her uncle. Afterward, Shetani told Storm of a hidden village in Northwest Kenya where she met her grandmother for the first time.[211][62] This finally prompted her to accept the Black Panther's marriage proposal.[212]

At the wedding of Storm and the Black Panther, Iron Man and Captain America showed up but leaving before the ceremony because neither of them could stand the sight of each other. Earlier, Charles Xavier made an appearance, telling Storm that as the queen of Wakanda, she was now the most important mutant in the world, and the living symbol of human/mutant relations. A role he believed she was born to play. When they were married, their essences were taken to the spirit world to seek the approval of the Panther God. Storm soon found she couldn't use her power in this plane. The Panther God accepted her into T'Challa's family.[55]

Storm in her wedding dress

After a two-week honeymoon, Storm entered into the world of international diplomacy at her husband's side. The initial stages of their "world tour" brought the royal couple to Latveria, Attilan, and Atlantis, and the discussion always turned towards America, and the potential international consequences of their Superhuman Registration Act. T'Challa and Ororo requested a meeting with the president of the United States to discuss the Act. However, the president's staff refused to even meet with the royal couple until Storm signed the Registration Act. As a powered American citizen, they explained, Ororo might technically be considered in violation of the Act if she did not. Refusing to be pressured into this decision, Storm and the Black Panther left without getting their meeting. A trigger-happy Sentinel pilot initiated a skirmish with the couple outside the White House where pro- and anti-registration demonstrators had gathered, prompting T'Challa and Storm to declare something must be done about the Act.[213]

Ororo and T'Challa remained in New York at the Wakandan Embassy, hoping to appeal to the United Nations and foreign powers to put international pressure on America to discontinue their current path. Meanwhile, Wakanda began covertly providing support to Captain America and his "Secret Avengers," fighting as unregistered vigilantes in opposition to the Act. Ororo faced off against the cyborg clone of Thor created under the Registration Act. Although not a true god, the Thor clone's power was tremendous, and his lightning strikes destroyed the Wakandan Embassy as Storm fought to buy the staff time to evacuate. The people were saved, but the building was a complete loss. When Captain America surrendered in the wake of the heroes' battle, Ororo and T'Challa were left to continue their protests against the Superhuman Registration Act alone.[214]

Fantastic Four[]

Fantastic Four Vol 1 548 textless

Storm with Fantastic Four

With the Wakandan Embassy destroyed, Storm and Black Panther were offered asylum at the Fantastic Four's Baxter Building. Coincidentally, Reed and Sue Richards took a leave of absence from the Fantastic Four to reconcile their relationship, which had been damaged due to their position in regards to the Superhuman Civil War. As such, Storm and Black Panther replaced them in the team.[215][216] Storm quickly adapted her attitude as a superhero to fit the expectations of the public opinion in regards to the celebrated Fantastic Four. In their first adventure, the new Fantastic Four marched to space to investigate the desecration of the grave of the young martyr Gravity,[217] who was to become Epoch's new Protector of the Universe. Their path crossed with that of the world-eater Galactus and his Heralds.[218] With the Fantastic Four's help, Epoch and Gravity were protected from the ire of Galactus.[219]

As a member of the Fantastic Four, Storm maintained close ties with her allies in the X-Men. When Masque resurfaced and performed terrorist attacks with his band of extremist Morlocks, Caliban sought for sanctuary in the Xavier Institute. Xavier contacted Storm to assist in the crisis.[220] Despite her struggle with her claustrophobia, she led a team of X-Men to the sewers to stop Masque's brutal agenda. There, the X-Men found predictions made by a seer named Qwerty about the immediate and dreadful future of mutantkind.[221] During the investigation, Masque and his Morlocks attacked, causing the tunnels to collapse. In horror, Storm was trapped beneath tons of debris.[222] Caged within a wooden coffin, Storm was tortured by Masque, who orchestrated a major attack against humans on the surface. Summoning the elements, Storm easily broke free and led the X-Men to put an end in the Morlocks' activities.[223]

Back to the Fantastic Four, Storm joined her teammates when Sue Richards was kidnapped by the Frightful Four led by the Wizard.[224] Having come to her rescue, the team was horrified by the Black Panther's nemesis, Klaw, being revived. The Frightful Four was defeated. However, during this rescue mission, the Fantastic Four were informed that the universe was going to collapse due to the intervention of the chaotic creatures known as the Contrasepsis.[225] The cosmic destruction was a reaction caused by Eternity himself. With Doctor Strange's intervention, Eternity's consciousness was stored within Storm's mind, which allowed Gravity to restore the damage. The universe was saved and the Fantastic Four returned home, to Baxter Building. With the return of Reed and Sue Richards, Storm and the Black Panther revealed they had joined the group to give the Richards a deserved vacation and, then, departed.[226]

Ororo and her husband later returned home, where the Wakandans had realized that the Skrulls had infiltrated their population. When the first ground troops arrived and were shot down, a ground battle commenced. T'Challa ordered Storm to "stick to the plan" and departed quickly, leaving her husband behind. The Skrulls were led to believe that they had captured Storm and her husband, when in fact that the Ororo and T'Challa they had been Skrulls. The true Storm and Black Panther killed the head of the army sent after them, K'vvvr, and sent the ship back to the Skrull homeworld, full of dead Skrulls and with a message written in blood: "This is what happens when you invade Wakanda".[227]

Worlds Apart[]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from X-Men Worlds Apart Vol 1 3 001

Following the destruction of the Xavier Institute and the dissolution of the X-Men,[228] Cyclops relocated mutantkind to San Francisco, where he founded Graymalkin Industries. In need of reconnecting to her allies, Storm rejoined the X-Men, parallel to her duties as the queen of Wakanda. The X-Men investigated a mysterious death that seemed to be related to artificially created mutants.[5] After following a trail from Chaparanga to Tian, Storm and the X-Men learned Forge was behind the macabre creatures.[229] On Wundagore Mountain, the X-Men confronted Forge, who revealed his true madness.[230] As a result of his research to restore the mutant population, Forge endeavored to deploy Ghost Boxes, trans-dimensional teleporters, to destroy multiversal interlopers. He forcibly activated his own Ghost Box, putting Earth under danger. The X-Man Beast incited S.W.O.R.D. director Abigail Brand into obliterating the device and the threatening alternate reality. When Storm attempted to reason with Forge and save him, he rejected her and mocked her marriage. In horror, Storm watched the man she once loved remain in his doomed citadel as it was destroyed.[231]

The Black Panther indirectly financed the X-Men by supporting the Mutantes Sans Frontières.[5] As such, he closely monitored mutant-related crises. When apparent mutant births caused issues in Mbangawi, in Africa, he contacted Storm to inform the X-Men about it. She guided the team, who were welcomed by Doctor Crocodile's forces with hostility.[232] After evading the troopers, the X-Men tended to the nurseries afflicted by the mutant activations. Storm comforted the victims. Beast identified the births were related to energies from a Ghost Box. In fact, the babies were Warpies[233] whose condition was triggered by the mutant Jim Jaspers, who came from a reality patrolled by Furies. Storm chose to protect Jaspers as the Furies proved to be unstoppable threats.[234] The Furies were tricked by the X-Men into leaving. However, Doctor Crocodile still eliminated Jaspers, much to Storm's disappointment. This caused her to reconsider the stances of many unprivileged African governments in relation to global crises.[85]

Storm vs Wakanda

As the queen of Wakanda and a prominent mutant agent, Storm struggled to mediate her different responsibilities. In Wakanda, she was informed her former protégé Gentle had been restrained for murder. Soon, she realized the Shadow King had been orchestrating her downfall by mentally controlling several of her allies, including Cyclops and the Black Panther.[235] Having run away with Gentle, Storm was able to incapacitate Cyclops and the Dora Milaje, but still had to face the Shadow King in her husband's body.[236] Having bested the Shadow King, Storm was outmatched by the Wakandan army. In desperation, she communed with the Panther God in order to assert her rightful position as monarch of Wakanda.[237] With Wakanda safe, Storm and Gentle marched to San Francisco to protect the X-Men from a brainwashed Cyclops. As the psychic monster tortured the X-Men, Storm once again dueled Cyclops. With the assistance of the God Panther, the Shadow King was destroyed. As she witnessed her loved ones recuperate, Storm realized she was capable of providing support to her two different worlds.[238]

Kastro from Doomwar Vol 1 6

Doomwar

This commitment proved to be short-lived following an assassination attempt against the Black Panther, performed by Doctor Doom. Storm distanced herself from the X-Men by focusing on nursing her husband back to health, while he was replaced by his younger sister, Shuri as regent of Wakanda and the Black Panther.[239] During this period, the X-Men relocated to the island community of Utopia.[240] Public opinion about Storm was damaged as disastrous droughts with unexplainable motivation emerged in Wakanda.[241] Attacked by local communities, she was questioned for her situation as a mutant and a foreigner.[242] Placed under arrest, Storm was convinced by her husband to surrender and prevent a political incident. This was part of a complex scheme by Doctor Doom to invade Wakanda with help of the dissident faction known as the Desturi.[243] The act led to a coup d'etat, reinforced by the public trial of Storm. Caged in a cell that neutralized her powers, Storm was incapacitated by the Desturi. Doom wished for the precious Wakandan Vibranium. As Storm lockpicked her way out of her cell, he greeted her in order to have access to the Vibranium vaults.[244]

The Black Panther recruited the X-Men to assist him and his sister free their country. However, although Storm was saved, Doctor Doom managed to leave with the Vibranium supplies.[245] As Black Panther and the Fantastic Four studied a way to recover the stolen metal, Storm dealt with the remnants of the Desturi in Wakanda.[246] Storm and Shuri retaliated alongside the Dora Milaje, but Doom's forces massacred their army.[246] On the Isle of Kastro, Storm battled mechanical monstrosities deployed by Doom. Despite Wakanda's effort, Doctor Doom was able to empower himself using magic and Vibranium.[247] The Black Panther and his allies joined forces to oppose Doom. In an unpredictable outcome, the Black Panther rendered all Vibranium on Earth inert to depower his enemy. Storm proceeded to obliterate the army of robots Doctor Doom controlled. Although Wakanda was in peace, their main richness was utterly extinguished.[248]

Avengers vs. X-Men[]

Looking to replenish the ranks of the Avengers, Captain America (Steve Rogers) approached the Black Panther, who declined Steve's offer to return to the team, but recommended Storm for membership. Calling Storm to Avengers Mansion, which was swarming with the media and public supporters of the heroes, Captain America asked Storm to join the team. The new Avengers team came to consist of Storm, Captain America, Iron Man, Red Hulk (Thunderbolt Ross), The Protector (Noh-Varr), Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), Hawkeye (Clint Barton), Quake, and Vision. The press conference was interrupted by a holographic image of Norman Osborn, who accused the Avengers of a litany of criminal offenses against him, and that H.A.M.M.E.R. would rise to challenge the Avengers. Captain America had the Avengers begin an immediate search for Osborn's whereabouts, teaming Storm up with Red Hulk, but all of them were surprised attacked and held captive by Osborn's H.A.M.M.E.R forces. They were eventually freed by Quake, and Storm and the Avengers defeated Osborn and disbanded H.A.M.M.E.R..[249]

Storm was summoned by Captain America to an Avengers meeting detailing their plans for the coming of the Phoenix Force and to prepare in case of a fight against the mutants of Utopia. Storm left in disgust,[250] siding with her fellow mutants against the Avengers.[251] After Namor attacked and almost destroyed Wakanda searching for the Avengers, T'Challa named the X-Men enemies of his country. Feeling Ororo betrayed their people by siding with the X-Men, and after Storm threw down her ring after a confrontation with her husband, T'Challa annulled their marriage as the High Priest of the Panther Cult.[252][34] Despite this, Storm still aided the Avengers to free their teammates from the Phoenix imbued X-Men, and in the final confrontation to defeat the Phoenix.[253]

Headmistress[]

In the wake of the conflict, Storm returned to the school and was immediately hired as a teacher.[254] Shortly after she arrived, Ororo was among the X-Men brainwashed by the Murder Circus to serve as performers. During that time, Ororo served as "Windrider", an escape artist before the team was freed by some of the students.[255] However, when Beast brought in the teenage version of the original 5 X-Men, Kitty Pryde took it upon herself to train and guide them, and asked Storm to become the Headmistress of the Jean Grey School in her stead, and Ororo accepted.[256][257]

Uncanny X-Force Vol 2 1 Textless

Storm's short-lived tenure with X-Force

Storm, who was dealing with anger issues after the end of her marriage to T'Challa, and Psylocke were sent an e-mail by Wolverine's old friend Puck. An e-mail that contained a tip about a drug dealer selling TAO, a drug that made people susceptible to a hive mind mentality.[258]

The two X-Women met Puck at a bar in L.A., and he led them to an old bank from the 20’s that the drug dealer – the diva of downtown LA - uses to sell drugs and dance. Storm and Psylocke quickly realized the dealer was Spiral, and Betsy quickly attacks her. Storm and Puck head to the bank vault, and find a scared little girl inside the vault, who mentally ordered the people at the club to attack Betsy.[258] Tracking Spiral and the girl, Ginny, the three heroes were attacked in Spiral's flat by a returned from the future Bishop, leaving Storm surprised to once again see her friend completely gone rogue.[259] Eventually, Bishop joined the team and after a battle with Stryfe, the team disbanded.[260]

The M-Pox Crisis[]

Following Wolverine's death, Storm became the sole leader of the X-Men.[261] Ororo's leadership was tested when the X-Men and the entirety of mutantkind were at a crossroads once more. It was discovered the Terrigen Mists that had been released some months ago all over the world by Inhuman king Black Bolt was hazardous to mutants and caused them to develop a disease known as M-Pox.[262] With the help of Doctor Strange and other sorcerers, the entirety of the Jean Grey School was moved to the realm of Limbo,[263] in a territory that became known as X-Haven, where all mutants were welcome and safe from the Terrigen Mists. The M-Pox outbreak caused an ever-growing repression against mutantkind. Storm realized that mutants couldn't simply hide, so in order to show mutants had a place in the world, Ororo rebuilt the X-Men.[262] Around this time, Black Panther requested Storm's help in fighting a revolutionary force in Wakanda,[264] opening the doors to a reconciliation and the reignition of their romance.[265]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from X-Men Gold Vol 2 32 001

Ororo wielding Stormcaster again

After the X-Men discovered the Terrigen Mists were close to becoming fully assimilated into the atmosphere, rendering the Earth completely uninhabitable for mutants, Ororo decided to lead her people into a war against the Inhumans with the intention to neutralize them long enough to give the X-Men time to destroy the Mists, since she believed the Inhumans would refuse to do so.[266] The Inhumans and the X-Men eventually reached an understanding and the Cloud was destroyed by the Inhuman queen Medusa, putting an end to the M-Pox crisis.[267] Following the resolution of the conflict, Storm chose to pass the reins of leadership to Kitty Pryde, believing herself to be unfit to serve among the X-Men, but Kitty convinced her to remain in the team.[268]

Stormcaster[]

When Ororo's foster mother Ainet was prosecuted by the worshippers of a new god who denounced Ororo's godhood, she prayed to the Old Gods to give her daughter the power of divinity. Before dying, her call was answered by the Stormcaster, which laid dormant in Asgard. The mystical hammer was awakened and it sought Storm in the middle of one of her adventures with the X-Men, and she regained the abilities the hammer once granted her. After learning of Ainet's death not long afterwards, Ororo travelled to Kenya and confronted the new dark god worshipped by her former village, Uovu.[269]

Uovu attempted to sway Ororo to his side, using his powers to resurrect her late parents. However, Ororo discovered catacombs where Uovu kept hundreds of villagers his followers had killed over the years ready to be reanimated under his command. When Ororo confronted Uovo about this revelation, he summoned his undead army, placing Ororo's parents and Ainet under his command as well.[270] Storm used Stormcaster one last time to confront Uovu in a battle of godhood. She defeated the dark god, causing Stormcaster to turn to dust. Before the people reanimated by Uovu dissolved into the wind, Ororo managed to have final words with both her parents and Ainet. Ainet comforted Ororo for her feelings that she had neglected the village when she left to join the X-Men, assuring Storm that she didn't abandon the village, but rather gave herself to the world.[271]

Age of X-Man[]

In the pocket reality created by Nate Grey's Life Seed, Storm was reshaped as an X-Man in a society exclusively formed by mutant where interpersonal relationships were strongly discouraged.[272][273] The team soon came into conflict with Murshid En Sabah Nur and his X-Tracts, revolutionaries who endorsed love and community over the state-endorsed harmonious autonomy, which raised suspicions over the veracity of their reality.[274] Storm approached Magneto and they investigated the possibility of being in a illusory reality. Eventually rebelling against the deceitful Nate Grey, they were banished and had their memories erased.[275] Ultimately, by rekindling with the other X-Men, Storm revealed the cracks in Nate Grey's plan, prompting an assault against him as a team.[276] After a final confrontation, the mutants displaced by Nate Grey returned to the main reality.[277]

Two Thousand Seasons[]

During the absence of T'Challa and the Gods of Wakanda, Storm helped Wakanda during their toughest of times. She, along with Shuri and Queen-Mother Ramonda, were able to come in contact with T'Challa, now a member of the Maroons, who informed them about the threat of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda.[278] Following the battle between the Maroons and the Empire's Flagship, T'Challa returned to Wakanda Prime, and reunited with his loved ones.[279] T'Challa tried to rekindle his relationship with Ororo, and also told her how he was tricked and captured by the empire.[280] The Empire's Askari fighters tried to attack Wakanda Prime, but Storm, and the other Wakandan fighters were able to fend them off for the moment.[281] Storm then confronted General Nakia of the Maroons, who also felt attraction to T'Challa, and wished her luck in Nakia's possible relationship with him.[282]

Krakoa[]

House of X Vol 1 2 Flower Variant Textless

A new era begins

With Professor X founding Krakoa nation, Storm became one of the mutants who assisted him in accomplishing his plan. Four months prior to the public revelation of the mutant nation, Storm planted Krakoan flowers on the X-Mansion grounds in Westchester. The flowers grew teleporting Gateways and Habitats, all part of the interconnected consciousness of Krakoa.[39] Through this intervention, the X-Mansion became the Graymalkin Habitat.[283] On Krakoa itself, Storm acted as part of the support team who helped the heroes of Krakoa invade the anti-mutant Orchis Forge. In a mutant circuit, formed by Beast's and Trinary's control over technology and the Stepford Cuckoos' telepathy, Storm was crucial to make psychic contact with Jean Grey in outer space. The heroes accomplished their goal, but the entire team was killed in the attack.[284] Thanks to the Krakoan Resurrection Protocols performed by the Five, Storm heralded the return of each member to the rest of Krakoa.[285] Then, she became part of the Krakoan supreme body of government, the Quiet Council, sitting at the Summer table, which consisted of the members of Xavier's idealistic X-Men.[286]

Marauders Vol 1 1 Textless

With the Marauders

As Emma Frost reshaped the Hellfire Club as the commercial conglomerate known as the Hellfire Trading Company to perform international transactions, one of the company's goals became exchanging Krakoan goods for mutants' safety. Although Storm rejected Frost's offer to be part of its board, she became entangled with this business regardless. Despite Krakoa was for all mutants, Kitty Pryde represented one exception for she was unable to access Krakoa through its Gateways. Witnessing her friend's struggle with being set apart from mutant haven, Storm kept watch of her, worrying for her safety. In a mission to combat Russian anti-mutant militants who counted with Forge's power-dampening technology, Storm sailed alongside Pryde, Iceman and Pyro to liberate mutants. This led Captain Kate Pryde to accept Frost's offer and form a crew of mutant pirates to act on behalf of the Hellfire Trading Company, the Marauders, which Storm was part of[287] as per Frost's suggestion in order to protect Pryde.[288]

As a powerhouse in the Marauders, Storm took part in several adventures to rescue mutants all over the world.[289] However, they were betrayed by Sebastian Shaw, the Black King of the Hellfire Trading Company who had associated himself with the Homines Verendi in Madripoor. Shaw misdirected Storm and Iceman away from Pryde in order to murder her.[290] On Island M, Storm learned about the trickery after meeting her old friend Callisto, who worked with Frost as her bodyguard, the White Knight.[291] In a uneasy exchange of emotions, Storm and Frost planned to resurrect Pryde and get revenge on Shaw.[288][292] Ultimately, Storm was able to welcome Pryde back to the living thanks to the miraculous Resurrection Protocols. In between these crisis, Storm also contacted Forge to solve his power-dampening technology being available to the enemies of Krakoa.[293]

Flirting with Death[]

Simultaneously to her activities as a pirate in the Marauders, Storm kept acting for Krakoa's and the Quiet Council's best interests. Alongside Cyclops, she invaded an Orchis base, where they found not only many mutants being kept captive, but also a Child of the Vault, the post-human Serafina. Storm interacted with Serafina before she vanished and escaped.[294] Serafina was tracked to Ecuador, where Storm unleashed her power in order to draw attention and allow a secret team to infiltrate the Vault. Although successful, Storm was targeted by the Vault's defenses[295] and corrupted by their technology, eventually falling into a coma. Infected by a machine virus, Storm was given one month to live after being examined and psychically rescued from her coma by Jean Grey and Emma Frost.[296] Even with the possibility of being resurrected through the Krakoan mutant technology, Storm refused to accept death. Monet St. Croix studied her case and suggested that in the adapting environment of the World there could be a device to purge the virus from Storm's body. Storm led a group of mutants alongside Fantomex and A.I.M. agent Ned into the World, being able to reach a machine that decoupled her from the virus. Finally cured, Storm was once more able to balance the scales between life and death and evade a final fate.[297]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) and Death (First Horsemen) (Earth-616) in Sevalith from X-Force Vol 6 14 001

A dance with Death

Storm's close connection to life and a flirtatious dance with death was made evident when she was drafted into a contest in Otherworld by Majestrix Saturnyne, who pitted champions from Krakoa and its sister and rival mutant nation Arakko to solve their war against each other.[298][299][300] Storm was assigned a role as a swordswoman who should wield Wakanda's most sacred weapon, the Skybreaker. She initially attempted to negotiate the use of the sword with Shuri and Queen Ramonda, with no success since they could not act without T'Challa's consent. Having not enough time to wait for their decision, Storm took the difficult choice of stealing the Skybreaker for Krakoa. The theft put a strain on her relationship with Black Panther and Wakanda.[301]

Wielding Skybreaker, Storm joined the Swordbearers of Krakoa and marched to war in Otherworld.[302] Before the tournament, Krakoans and Arakkii enjoyed a banquet during which Storm's courage and ability to avoid death so many times caught the interest of the Horseman of Death. They waltzed and discussed their rivalry.[303] Storm's first trial turned out to be a Blightswill drinking contest against Wolverine at the Crooked Market. This was set up by the Horseman of Death,[304] who had given them the beverage from Dryador to nullify Storm's powers in time for their fight. In spite of being powerless, Storm was still able to brutally defeat the Horseman of Death in a battle for first blood in the vampire court of Sevalith.[305] After Krakoa was declared the winner, Storm returned the Skybreaker to Wakanda but the scars caused by her betrayal remained.[306]

The tournament delayed Shaw's punishment for having murdered Pryde. Back to Krakoa, Storm witnessed Pryde and Frost viciously maim Shaw, forcing him to comply to their will in the Quiet Council.[307] For being sure Pryde was finally safe, Storm decided she had no further business with the Hellfire Trading Company and decided to leave the Marauders, sharing it first to Callisto. Before she could depart, Callisto invited Storm to be her match at Crucible, the Krakoan killing ritual performed to restore the powers of mutants who had been depowered by the Scarlet Witch. In a dramatic duel, Storm mortally wounded Callisto, allowing her to be revived with full powers.[308] Storm eventually said goodbye to her fellow Marauders and respectfully shared her pleasure in assisting them in their mission for mutantkind. She wished for new winds to sail.[309]

Regent of Arakko[]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from S.W.O.R

Voice of Sol

Krakoa was contacted by royal advisor Deathbird about the disappearance of Shi'ar Empress and Xavier's daughter Xandra in Chandilar, and Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey travelled to look for her. Xandra had been kidnapped by rebels led by the Stygian Urr. Storm finished Urr herself, granting her the admiration, respect and gratitude of the Empress in the form of a debt to be collected.[310]

For the Hellfire Gala, mutantkind decided to integrate the defeated people of Arakko into the universe by occupying Mars. The red planet was terraformed by many Krakoan and Arakkii omega-level mutants, including Storm, who created its atmosphere and founded the Diplomatic Ring on Lake Hellas.[311] Storm then earned a position for herself in the Arakkii society by challenging the omega-level shapeshifter Nameless for the Seat of All-Around-Us at the Great Ring of Arakko. The pair fought in the Circle Perilous with Nameless taking on the form of Storm in her prime. Storm froze Nameless to prevent her movement and shapeshifting, and Nameless chose to die rather than yield. As such, Storm took the position of Regent of Arakko, being in charge of the matters of the people and the land.[56][24]

Through the influence of S.W.O.R.D.'s director Abigail Brand, Planet Arakko became the diplomatic capital of the Solar System. As the Regent of Arakko, Storm assumed the role of Voice of Sol in the Galactic Council, being a representative for negotiations with alien civilizations. One of mutantkind's main resources during this societal turn was the mines of the anti-magic mineral named Mysterium.[7] On Arakko, Storm discussed the role of Mysterium with Doctor Doom, during a dinner where he alerted her that Brand might represent a threat for their interests. Storm ultimately dismissed Doom for his arrogance.[312] Later, as part of the Great Ring of Arakko, Storm kept facing challenges to prove her worth, constantly facing opponents in the Circle Perilous. One of the combatants was Tarn the Uncaring. Storm battled the vile Tarn powerless, as he was able to genetically turn her powers off. She was victorious and gained more prestige in the Arakkii society.[56]

At Lake Hellas, a diplomatic meeting between S.W.O.R.D. and the Shi'ar Empire was interrupted by Orbis Stellaris' Lethal Legion as part of Henry Gyrich's plan. Storm intervened, attacking the Lethal Legion,[313] ensuring Empress Xandra's protection by assassinating the numerous Lethal Legion agents. However, Storm realized the S.W.O.R.D. space station had been oddly sabotaged.[314]

Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from X-Men Red Vol 2 1 001

The Brotherhood of Arakko is born

Abigail Brand wanted for Ororo to be just a figurehead and by controlling her control Arakko and the Sol System. However, Storm took her position seriously and preferred to become one of Arakko and act according to their laws and customs, instead of lording over them. Storm refused Brand's offer to lead a team of X-Men connected to S.W.O.R.D. to act on Arakko. Instead, Storm distanced herself from the position of ruler, contacted Magneto and Sunspot to form a Brotherhood of heroes to fight for Arakko.[24] Her sincere efforts earned respect of normal Arakkii citizens. Brand was disappointed and decided to work around Ororo and goaded Vulcan to challenge Tarn the Uncaring.[315] Since Tarn was hated by everyone on Arakko, by killing him Vulcan would not only get a seat on the Great Ring, but would also earn respect and love of normal citizens and would have a chance to supplant Ororo's role in their hearts. Ororo saw Brand's role in Vulcan's challenge, and talked about it with Magneto and Sunspot. During the battle Tarn brutally killed Vulcan, but was then challenged by Magneto, while Sunspot made a bet with Isca the Unbeaten. He bet on Tarn's victory and since Isca's power guaranteed she can never lose it automatically guaranteed that Tarn can't win and he was killed by Magneto.[316]

Magneto and Storm discussed that since Arakkii aren't afraid of death, they can't really became one of them while they could be resurrected on Krakoa, so they asked Xavier to stop doing their backups and Magneto then publicly destroyed his and Ororo's last backups during the meeting of the Great Ring who wanted to discuss the same thing with them.[29]

Due to Brand's behind the scenes manipulations Empress Xandra was assassinated. As a Voice of Sol Ororo attended an emergency meeting of the Galactic Council. Shi'ar informed everyone about Xandra's death and how it potentially could lead to a civil war with repercussions for entire galaxy, so they asked for help. Since Xandra was a mutant, Black Panther proposed for Krakoa to resurrect her, but Orbis Stellaris immediately opposed it, claiming it would be unfair for everyone else if Xandra's life was deemed more important and worthy for resurrection. Since it was internal problems of the Shi'ar Empire that lead to their instability, it was their trouble to solve even if it meant war and death of trillions. Storm, however, informed the Galactic Council that there is nothing to discuss here, because Xandra was already resurrected on Krakoa, and mutantkind don't need anyone's permission to live and thrive.[29]

Divided Attention[]

Arakko asked Ororo to rescue Redroot, who was abandoned in the Otherworld during the X of Swords contest. However, just like during her reign as the queen of Wakanda, Storm was again torn between her various responsibilities as the Voice of Sol, regent of Arakko and member of the Quiet Council of Krakoa, so she couldn't leave. She asked Sunfire to help and he went into the Otherworld.[317]

During the war between Eternals and mutants, Ororo went to Krakoa to provide Arakko's perspective. During her absence Arakko was attacked by Uranos and his weapons. Idyll and Cable were killed, Ora Serrata and Xilo were grievously injured and Magneto was fatally injured, but supported his life with his powers.[318] When Storm returned, she worked together with Lactuca and Sobunar to destroy Uranos' weapons all around the planet and she then assisted Magneto to defeat the last one.[319] After the final battle Magneto died in Ororo's hands, asking her to keep an eye on Charles Xavier, as he was now the last architect of Krakoa left. After the war the Great Ring confronted Isca, who due to her powers betrayed them yet again, Ororo and others said that even if they can't win against her, they would still fight her, so Isca resigned from the Ring.[320]

Meanwhile on Krakoa, Sinister used Moira Engine and manipulated the events until he managed to infect and control Xavier, Emma Frost, Hope Summers and Exodus and through them control the Quiet Council and change the world. His machinations spanned for thousand years until eventually that reality was destroyed.[321] Rasputin IV from that reality arrived in the present, informed the Quiet Council about Sinister's schemes and they managed to stop him in time. Storm personally observed that Sinister's infection was purged from Xavier and other three, but even so she told them they can't be fully trusted and can't vote on the Council. While the rest were ashamed of their actions and agreed, Emma Frost instead pinpointed that Storm have no right to judge them. While in that reality they committed countless crimes, they were under Sinister's control. Ororo, on the other hand, was herself the full time, but it took her 5 years to notice that something was wrong, because she was constantly running back and forth between Krakoa and Arakko. Ororo realized that Emma was right, so she gave her vote on the Quiet Council to Colossus.[322] On Arakko Ororo yielded her Seat of All-Around-Us and role of regent to Lodus Logos, because the future of their nation should be decided by poets and dreamers. She instead took Magneto's Seat of Loss.[320]

X-Men Red Vol 2 2

Storm vs Vulcan

When Vulcan was resurrected on Krakoa, he decided to forcefully retake the throne of Shi'ar Empire and attacked Xandra. However, his and Brand's plans were exposed, by Sunspot and Storm.[323] Storm defeated Vulcan with Sobunar's help and Lodus Logos then encased him in Mysterium.[23]

During the war Storm was impressed by NASA scientist Dr. Craig Marshall, who, despite not having any powers or training tried to protect Arakkii children.[319] After the war and Sinister's plot on Krakoa she went on a date with Craig. The date was cut short by Xavier, who demanded to know the last words of Magneto. Ororo refused to tell him, so he angrilly tried to telepathically breach into her mind, but was repelled. Ororo then told him what Magneto asked her to keep an eye on him, not because he was worried about Sinister controlling Charles, but because he was afraid that Charles could break under the weight of his dream. Magneto was his friend, but she no longer is.[324]

Fall of Krakoa[]

X-Men Red Vol 2 13

Genesis War

As Orchis was preparing to attack and destroy Krakoa, they orchestrated a schem to deal with Arakko as well. Marianna Stern used magic to communicate with Genesis and Apocalypse in the Amenth. She informed them about changes on Arakko and Storm's role in it. Genesis was infuriated and lead invasion of Amenth to Arakko. She confronted and berated the Great ring, and used Annihilation Staff to sway several members to her side. Storm and few others opposed her, to give them fair chance, Lactuca teleported them all away.[325]

In the following months a civil war broke out on Arakko. Some Arakkii supported Genesis' old ways, while some preferred Storm's new ways of life.[326][327] Storm personally defeated War and Famine, and Death challenged her for another duel, however, Pestilence interfered and attempted to sneakily kill Ororo while she was arguing with Death. Death was infuriated and killed his sister, and then joined Storm's side in the war.[328]

Apocalypse refused to join Genesis' side as he disagreed with her view of Arakko.[329] He rescued Sunfire, who completed Storm's mission and rescued Redroot, but was stuck in the Otherworld,[330] and then also freed Vulcan. Apocalypse convinced Storm to follow his plan and perform a magical ritual to transform part of the planet's land into new living island Kaorak.[331]

In the following final battle Kaorak fought against Arakko, and two sides of conflict engaged in battle, while Storm personally went after Genesis. Annihilation Staff tried to influence and break her will, but eventually Ororo destroyed the Staff with lightning and defeated Genesis. The challenge was witnessed by Lactuca, who then informed both sides about it and the end result. The war ended and the planet reunited, while Genesis, War and Famine relocated to Phobos.[57]

Dark Cold Room from Resurrection of Magneto Vol 1 3 001

Storm vs evil

Finally freed, Arakkii force went to Earth to assist the X-Men and other mutants in the battle against the Orchis,[332] while Storm went into the Waiting Room in the afterlife to bring back Magneto. In the Room she was attacked by Tarn, but Ororo killed him yet again. She was then greeted by her ancestor Ashake, Ororo told her about her dreams about Magneto and why she came to the afterlife. She worried it was a foolish reason, but Ashake pointed out that the dreams are very important, they are messages from gods, and sometimes even from Eternity. She helped Ororo to figure out the meaning of her dream and the path she should take. On this path Ororo met manifestations of the Dominions who informed her about Enigma, and also told her they've seen Mangeto, but while he was interesting, he wasn't useful to them, but Ororo was. As this place was created by magic, the power here was symbolic and relied on belief instead of actual strength, so Ororo managed to resist Dominions and went further on the path.[333]

She found Magneto and convinced him to return to life.[334] They proceeded on the path and met Shadow King, Annihilation and several other evil beings who revealed that all of them were just different faces and manifestations of the same being who opposed the Phoenix Force. Storm and Magneto joined forces and managed to defeat and harm Shadow King and others. They returned to the real world,[335] joined the battle against Orchis and helped to destroy Nimrod.[336]

New Beginning[]

Storm remained on Earth, but hadn't rejoined the X-Men. Instead she settled in Atlanta. She built the Storm Sanctuary in the sky above the city, a sanctuary for mutants, humans, aliens, gods, and anyone else who needed help and protection.[20] She was also invited to join the Avengers by Captain America.[58]

When an explosion happened in a nuclear plant in Oklahoma City, Storm went there to help. For her heroic actions she was praised by the public and became a national hero to the point that some people even believed that she would run for Congress. Authorities concluded that the explosion was caused by secret experiments, but in truth, it was caused by a young mutant whose powers manifested. Ororo made a hard choice and revealed the truth to the media during the Sanctuary's public opening. Predictably, it lead to nothing but more fear and hatred toward mutants.[20]

Regardless, Storm continued to help all around the world. Soon she discovered that she was poisoned by unusual radiation in the nuclear plant. She went to the Night and Daye Hospital for the Extramundane to get medical help. Dr. Daye informed her that she had only six hours left to live. He wasn't able to help with this kind of radiation as it required magic, so he arranged for her a meeting with Doctor Voodoo. Storm hastily went to Haiti, only to be berated by Doctor Voodoo for requiring his — or any other sorcerer's — help, because she herself shared blood with Agamotto, the first Sorcerer Supreme, and thus had a very strong magical potential, but never learned to use it.[33] Nevertheless he agreed to help, performed a ritual and made a deal with ancient spirit Eēgūn. Eēgūn not only removed the radiation from her body, but also took away every illness, making her the healthiest person in the world. The price for his help was Ororo's powers, she couldn't use them for 7 days, or he would kill her. Doctor Voodoo proposed for her to stay in the Strange Academy for safety, but Storm instead went to her friends, the X-Men in New Orleans and stayed with them for 6 days.[337]

Eternity (Earth-616) and Ororo Munroe (Earth-616) from Storm Vol 5 4 001

Eternal Storm

On the seventh day a mystical bird arrived with an invitation for Ororo from Doctor Doom, the new Sorcerer Supreme. He wanted to talk with her, so she rode the bird to Latveria. During the dinner with Doom, he told her that he wanted mutants to serve him and for Storm to become an ambassador of his will. Ororo was enraged and activated her powers, but was then immediately slain by Eēgūn. Eēgūn gloated over her corpse how the entire world would pay the price for her breaking the promise, before eagerly attacking Doom, claiming its been a while since he had eaten the Sorcerer Supreme.[45]

Ororo's soul went into afterlife, where she had a short meeting with her father. David told her that he and N'Daré were looking after her and witnessed everything she did in her life and were immensely proud of her, but it wasn't yet time for her to stay with them. Her soul was then brought to Eternity, who found Ororo worthy to become the Eternal Storm. Her body remade and empowered, Ororo awoke in Latveria and easily dealt with Eēgūn.[45]

Powers

Mutant Powers[]

Weather Manipulation: Storm is an Omega Level mutant[39] with psionic power to control all forms and facets of the weather and atmosphere. One of the primary sources of her powers on Earth is the electromagnetic field.[338] Ororo is considered to be one of the most powerful mutants in the universe, her inherent raw power and potential has been stated to be nigh-infinite,[339] or even incalculable.[340] She was considered to be a Severe Threat by the O*N*E.[341] Prior to being confirmed as an Omega Level Mutant, she was considered to be an Alpha Level mutant[citation needed] with Omega Level potential.[14]

Storm has been able to control both Earthly and extraterrestrial ecosystems on several occasions. She can modify the temperature of the environment, control all forms of precipitation, humidity, and moisture (at a molecular level), generate lightning and other electromagnetic atmospheric phenomena, and has demonstrated excellent control over atmospheric pressure. She can incite all forms of meteorological tempests, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and hurricanes,[342] as well as mist. She can dissipate such weather to form clear skies as well. Storm can also control the very fundamental forces that determine weather itself anywhere like the planet's magnetic fields, taking control of the magnetosphere on multiple occasions.[343]

The Weather Goddess

Her precise control over the atmosphere allows her to create special weather effects. She can create precipitation at higher or lower altitudes than normal, make whirlwinds travel pointing lengthwise in any direction, channel ambient electromagnetism through her body to generate electric blasts, flash freeze objects and people, coalesce atmospheric pollutants into acid rain or toxic fog, and, along with her natural ability of flight, summon wind currents strong enough to support her weight to elevate herself (or others) to fly at high altitudes and speeds. Her control is so great that she can even manipulate the air in a person's lungs. She can also control the pressure inside the human inner ear, an ability she uses to cause intense pain. She can also bend light using moisture in the air and her manipulation of mist and fog to appear partially transparent, and in some cases, nearly invisible.[344]

Storm has also demonstrated the ability to control natural forces that include cosmic storms, solar wind, ocean currents, and electromagnetic energy. She has demonstrated the ability to separate water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen via electrolysis, allowing her to breathe underwater.[161] While in outer space, she is able to affect and manipulate the interstellar and intergalactic mediums. Such as when she bent primal cosmic forces to create lightning whilst still healing in the Acanti,[345] or when she gathered hydrogen atoms around the Silver Surfer whilst in space to create an atmosphere around him.[citation needed] While bonded to The Acanti, Storm could alter her visual perceptions so as to see the universe in terms of a multi-colored panorama filled with constantly shifting patterns of energy.[345] She can perceive the stars, planets, and even empty space as patterns of force and energy all of which she can control. She once came across a Galactic Core, which consisted of millions of suns and planets crammed into a tiny place. She was able to draw on the living stars and worlds within it, to gain both spiritual and material sustenance. Summoning the power of the entire Core to purge the Brood Queen, for the briefest of moments, a new star shines in the firmament, not unlike the Earth which she draws energy from to manipulate the weather. But in this case, things are magnified to an unimaginable degree. And though Storm was able to manipulate the energies from the Galactic Core to purge the Brood Queen, it also cost her own life in the process.[346] Whether this is something she can repeat, or made possible only on the moment remains unknown.

Storm has been shown to be sensitive to the dynamics of the natural world, and her psionic powers over weather are affected by her emotions. One consequence of this connection to nature is that she often suppresses extreme feelings to prevent her emotional state from resulting in violent weather. On the onset of Wolverine's death, she was rushed off planet because the X-Men feared she will set the planet's atmosphere on fire, once in outer space in her grief, she created a geomagnetic storm so powerful it caused global auroras worldwide for hours.[347] She has once sensed a diseased and dying tree on the X-Mansion grounds, detected objects within various atmospheric mediums—including water, and sensed the incorrect motion of a hurricane in the Northern Hemisphere and the gravitational stress on the tides by the Moon and Sun[348] as well as the distortion of a planet's magnetosphere.[349] Storm can view the Earth as weather patterns, and is able to precisely recognize her geographic position through interpretations of these patterns.[350] Storm's mutant abilities are limited by her willpower and the strength of her body. Storm is also able to manipulate earth and fire, creating earthquakes and lava bursts.[343] Storm's abilities also work in other dimensions and realms as in the trion dimension, when she was able to overpower defeat the corrupted Trion and by tapping into the elemental energies of that dimension, was able to heal the rifts in space and time made by trion possessed Juggernaut.[351] This demonstrated that Storm's abilities are far greater than even she anticipated.

  • Willpower/Telepathic Resistance: Something that was gradually gained through Ororo's time with the X-Men, Storm has one of the most powerful wills of them all, even defying Dracula's hypnotism.[352] She is a powerful opponent against telepathy in battle. Her resistance is further enhanced by the electrical forces she controls.
  • Earth Link: Storm's mutant powers have created a psychic bond between herself and the primal life force of Earth's biosphere. This bond with the Earth and apparently the entire universe, gives Storm spiritual and material sustenance with an almost empathic sense towards living thing. Storm also possesses the ability to sense and detect life forces and she has once sensed a dying tree in the Xavier Mansion. She has once sensed a snowball being tossed and sense the Blackbird cutting the atmosphere even though the distance between them was thousands of miles.[citation needed] She can sense any natural phenomena including earthquakes, storms, etc. Storm can sense movements in the air or water mediums. She also confirmed that she can sometimes sense the very core of creation, describing it as the sacred source behind and within all things and transcends reality itself.[353]
  • Temperature Immunity: Ororo's body counteracts extremes of temperature, internally increasing or decreasing her temperature in contrast to its external environment to an unknown degree.[354] In the Antarctic, while trying to alter the blizzards raging over its entirety, she nearly fried her own system.[149]
  • Energy Vision: With a blink, Storm can see the physical world around her as energy, including the human body's nervous system, which in turn allows her to counter all but the fastest attack.[171] Added to her already formidable hand-to-hand abilities, this makes her a very tough opponent. Storm has also shown the ability to see in almost complete darkness.[citation needed]

Magic Powers[]

Magical Potential: Storm's ancestry supports the use of magic and witchcraft.[355] For some unknown reason, since the dawn of Atlantis, this line of African women has been given distinguishing features of white hair, blue eyes, and powerful magic potential.[citation needed] Storm usually calls out to an unnamed goddess, she has already had a vision of the goddess and she has the same physical characteristics as her and her ancestors.[52] Many of her ancestors were sorceresses and priestesses:

  • Storm's maternal powers have even been linked to the real-world Rain Queens of Balobedu, the region from which her Sorceress Supreme ancestor, Ayesha, hails.
  • Storm's ancestor Ashake, who worships the Egyptian goddess Ma'at, also known as Oshtur, the mother of Agamotto. Oshtur appears to have strong favor for the bloodline of Ororo.[356]

Although Storm has not developed her magical potential, it has been hinted at. The Tarot asserts Storm as being "High Priestess," the First Tarot's choice one-third of the time. The other draws were the Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness. These three characters split the High Priestess card equally.[355] Even though she hadn't realized her potential, she had been among powerful mages and witches who were considered by the Eye of Agamotto as a candidate for the new Sorcerer Supreme.[357]

A timeline-divergent Storm became the sorceress who taught sorcery to Magik and some of Storm's alternate universe selves possess considerable magical talent.[358]

On a separate note, it has been stated that Storm's spirit is so strong that she was able to host the consciousness of an avatar (or "manifestation body")[359] of Eternity; in a gathering consisting of herself, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Silver Surfer and the Fantastic Four, she and Strange were the only viable candidates.[226]

Portal Creation: When four mages channeled their combined energy into Illyana Rasputina who attempted to open a portal to Limbo from another dimension, she wasn't able to contain all this energy. Storm then told her to channel this energy into her and together they managed to open the portal and return to Limbo.[360]

Divine Powers[]

After her mutant powers manifested Ororo brought rain to various areas in Africa affected by drought. For her actions she was worshipped as the goddess of weather,[82][69] storm,[2] rain,[232] wind[85] and harvest[20] for several years, until Charles Xavier told her about true source of her control over the weather. Later on she gained actual divine powers on several occasions. According to T'Challa, Ororo have a gift of godhead passed from her ancestors.[40]

  • Goddess of Thunder: During the time she had temporarily lost her mutant powers Storm and the X-Men were captured by the Asgardian trickster god, Loki. Loki played on her earning to regain powers and forged an enchanted hammer Stormcaster, a weaker replica of Thor, Gor of Thunder's hammer Mjolnir. While wielding the Stormcaster she was transformed into Goddess of Thunder with similar to Thor's powers. However, the hammer also affected her mind. Storm eventually managed to control herself and let go of the hammer and its power.[105] Few years later Thor discovered Stormcaster in Asgard and brought it to Ororo, not knowing about its history. Ororo became the Goddess of Thunder again, but then used Mjolnir to seemingly destroy Stormcaster.[361] Nevertheless, some time later Stormcaster returned to Earth and reunited with Storm yet again.[362] This time she had a much better control over its power and used the hammer for months, until it was completely destroyed to defeat evil god Uovu.[271] Few years later Thor gathered Storm, Loki, Beta Ray Bill and Jane Foster and together they all temporarily wielded Mjolnir and gained its power to help Thor defeat Toranos, the Elder God of Thunder.[30] When Ororo was wondering whether she should join the Avengers or not, Thor informed her what he planned to leave, and advised her to agree so that the Avengers could still have a God of Thunder.[27] On a separate occasion she was called a Storm God.[337]
  • Hadari Yao: The faith of Wakandands helped her ascend and become a goddess, Hadari Yao, the Goddess who preserves the balance of all natural things.[3] This power helped her to dissipate unnatural storm from another world and defeat Adversary, also known as Sefako The Twice Risen God.[3][40]

Other Powers[]

  • Vampirism (formerly): Ororo was temporarily turned into vampire by Dracula, but managed to overcome it with Kitty Pryde's help.[352]
  • According to her ancestor Ashake, Ororo is an "avatar of life", but it is unclear what exactly it means.[333]

Abilities

  • Master Thief: Starting from 6 years old Ororo was trained by Achmed El Gibár to steal, pick pockets and locks. Within a year she became the best thief in Cairo. Ahmed continued to train her and taught her to dexterously use not only both hands, but also toes and mouth to pick locks. He also trained her to escape from handcuffs, ropes and other restrains.[47][68][71] After she left the Cairo and arrived in Kenya, her training was continued by the Teacher, who claimed that her skills were mediocre, but soon she overcame him and became able to open locks even he was unable to.[65] Ororo kept and honed her skills and still uses them sometimes.[68][363][237] She has been teaching some of her skills to the students at the Jean Grey School.[citation needed]
  • Expert Combatant: Ororo is a gifted and formidable hand-to-hand combatant with years of close quarter combat experience. She was trained by Achmed El Gibar and the Black Panther in her youth, and later extensively trained by Wolverine and learned techniques from the ronin Yukio. She has bested more powerful fighters like Callisto by using her prowess and her cunning.
  • Weapons Expert: She is an excellent marksman with handguns and is experienced in the use of various firearms. Ororo is also highly skilled with wielding knives, experienced in the use of the bo staff, and trained in sword fighting by the finest warriors in Wakanda.
  • Leadership: Storm has strong natural leadership skills and has lead teams of X-Men for years. She is a highly accomplished and skilled strategist, tactician, and field commander.
  • Expert Gardener: Ororo is also an excellent gardener owing to her supernatural abilities and has her own botanical gardens at the Xavier Mansion.
  • Multilingual: Storm is fluent in English, Arabic,[364] Swahili,[citation needed] Russian,[365] Japanese,[366] Wakandan,[citation needed] and Yoruba.[citation needed]
  • Pilot: Storm is an accomplished pilot with experience in piloting advanced aircraft that include Wakandan Ships[367] or the Blackbird.
  • Indomitable Will:[368] Ororo has an exceptionally strong will, thanks to years of practice to control the weather. She has shown the strength of will to effectively resist the world's most powerful telepaths, such as Professor X, Jean Grey, Rachel Summers, the Shadow King, and Emma Frost. She has also shown the strength of will and spirit to host the conscience of the abstract entity Eternity to help save his life and the universe, a feat few beings could do, as well as hide the Panther God Bast in her mind in order to defeat the Shadow King.
  • Diplomatic Immunity (formerly): While married to T'Challa, the leader of a sovereign nation, she often visited the United States or the United Nations for political reasons. She enjoyed diplomatic immunity during these trips, and the Wakandan Embassy is considered foreign soil.

Weaknesses

  • Claustrophobia (practically formerly): Having been trapped under rubble for three days in Cairo while her mother lay dying, Storm's claustrophobia was once so severe, it rendered her completely helpless. However, she has more or less conquered her fear, though tight spaces still make her uncomfortable. These flashbacks still attack her when she is enclosed.[369]
  • Emotional Influence: Storm's ability to manipulate the weather in her immediate vicinity is affected by her emotions; hence, if she does not maintain control, a fit of rage might induce a destructive storm. As a result, Storm has in the past kept a tight rein on all extreme emotions.
  • Physical Condition: Storm is limited by the force of her will and the strength of her body. It once took her several hours to put an end to a savage blizzard sweeping over much of Canada, and she nearly killed herself from exhaustion in the process.
  • Naturally Occurring Limitation: Storm respects the natural boundaries of the planet's biosphere, and manipulates weather patterns as they naturally exist. For example, she could end a drought in one area by creating torrential rains there, but that would necessitate robbing all available moisture from the surrounding area. (In contrast, Thor, whose weather affecting ability is magical, can change the weather in one area without disrupting existing weather patterns anywhere else). Storm does not typically create atmospheric conditions that cannot exist naturally on the planet she is on. She could not, for example, lower temperatures as far as absolute zero or raise them to solar intensities. However, when the situation has called for it, Ororo has created natural and unnatural phenomena which do not exist on Earth, such as Jovian atmospheric pressure, a massive tornado that reaches to the upper atmosphere of the planet, or when she superheated plasma.

Paraphernalia

Equipment

  • Lockpicks: Storm often carries lockpicks with her, a habit from her childhood. Originally she was hiding them behind her tiara.[68] Even when she was the queen of Wakanda she still carried the lockpicks with her.[237]
  • Cameo Crystal: It was given to Ororo by M'Rin to get into her dimension.[89]
  • Ancient Ruby (formerly): This ruby was passed in her family from mother to daughter for countless generations. Ororo took it from her dead mother's body and kept as keepsake. After joining the X-Men, Storm used the ruby as chocker on her uniform for many years.[66][19] Recently she gave the ruby to Doctor Daye as a payment for his medical help and down payment for Doctor's future help to any mutants who would require his medical help.[33]
  • Heart of Eternal Darkness (formerly): Ororo stole it in Egypt when she was a kid, and kept it with her for years. Until it was eventually destroyed.[71]

Weapons

  • Keeps a large knife and staff for necessary occasions.

Transportation

Flight by the wind currents, X-Men Blackbird;

Notes

  • Storm is best friends with Jean Grey.[87][370]
  • Storm was one of the first mutants that Professor Xavier met before founding the X-Men.[70]
  • Storm's white hair apparently is part of her family legacy, being unrelated to her mutation, as X-Men: Declassified #1 states that "born with white hair and blue eyes, [her] genetic mutation would not manifest until she reached adolescence."

Trivia

  • Storm was originally conceived by Dave Cockrum as "the Black Cat," a character who could transform into a feline creature or a house cat. The character was shelved for a time, along with the rest of the new X-Men project, and ultimately made redundant by the large number of cat-themed characters that had been introduced in the interim. When the project resumed, it was decided that the team needed another female character, and Roy Thomas suggested replacing the weather-controlling Typhoon with a female equivalent. Cockrum then quickly outlined the idea for Storm, leaving the Black Cat costume unchanged but changing the character's hair from brunette to white.[371]
  • In the 70s, Dave Cockrum planned to create an all-female team named The Furies which teamed-up Storm with Clea, Tigra, Namorita, Dragonfly, and a new character called Moon Fang. Despite the book being tentatively greenlit, Cockrum never finished the plot for the team's first story, and the idea eventually fell apart.[372]
  • The name "Ororo" means "Beauty".[373][352][374] When T'Challa first heard her name, he immediately recognized it as Kenyan,[78] even though there is no Kenyan language; Kenya has two official languages, Swahili and English, and almost 70 other languages are used across the country.
  • In Uncanny X-Men #253 while Storm was in the hospital after being reverted into a pre-teen body, one of the doctors said, "But her features don't fit any conventional classification. Not Negroid, Caucasian, or Oriental -- Yet somehow, an amalgam of the rarest elements of them all."
  • Storm is currently one of the only people on Earth-616 who has been a member of the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four. The others are Spider-Man and Wolverine.
  • Storm's original spacious attic garden and bed room was made for her by Nightcrawler.[375] With the destruction of the original X-Mansion, Storm, has since taken up residency and rebuilt her garden in one of the many free floating towers of the new Grey School.[257]
  • Ororo was a partial nudist, due to her time being worshipped as a goddess,[2] and during her time with X-Men.[376][377] She eventually learned from Jean to dress regularly in clothing.
  • In celebration of Marvel Comics 80th anniversary, Storm, along with Mystique and Dark Phoenix were featured in a special line of Barbie fashion dolls.[378]
  • In X-Men #102, Ororo's birth year is given as being late 1950 or early 1951, thus making her 25 during the issue at hand. However, this should be considered non-canonical per the Sliding Timescale of Earth-616.
    • Ororo's age at the time she joined the X-Men is unclear. She left Cairo when she was around 12 and travelled for almost a year,[47] but was still 12 when she first met T'Challa.[65] They travelled together for some time before she settled in Uzuri, so presumably she was around 13 at the time. It wasn't specified for how long she stayed with the tribe, but it was mentioned that there were "years of drought" she helped to deal with.[379] When she visited her father's old apartment in Harlem, Ororo mentioned that it was "over twenty years ago" since she lived there with her parents.[46] On another occasion she mentioned what she first encountered Charles Xavier when she was 6 years old and hadn't met him again "for almost two decades".[69] So, presumably she was at least 20/21 years old when she joined the X-Men.
  • Ororo had on several occasions invoked and prayed to a unknown goddess she referred to as just "Goddess", the "Bright Lady"[52] and "Mother Nature"/"Mother Earth",[380] confirmed to be Elder Goddesses Oshtur and Gaia.[381] In case of Oshtur, it is possible that she was worshipped by her family for generations, since her ancestor Ashake was Oshtur's disciple and priestess.[382] Another possibility is what Ororo started to worship the Bright Lady under the influence of her teacher Achmed El Gibár, who prayed to the Bright Lady as well.[71] She prayed to the Bright Lady since her childhood.[60] Storm also claimed that her powers were bestowed to her by the earth mother Gaia.[35]
  • The Rain Queens from from Balobedu people (South Africa) are called Mujaji or Modjadji,[383][384] who possibly inspired the creation of the goddess Mujaji, one of the Orisha, the Gods of Wakanda.

Awards[]

For the Glyph Comics Awards in 2007, Ororo was the most successful comic and was the winner for the best comic of the year, by Eric Jerome Dickey, David Yardin & Lan Medina and Jay Leisten & Sean Parsons. In the Comics Buyer's Guide, Storm ranked 30th of the 100 Sexiest Women in Comics List. Storm also was ranked the 89th greatest comic book character of all time by Wizard magazine. In 2011 Storm was first place in Rank on Comic Vine best super hero of the year, and was stated to be one of the bravest and strongest women of all time by Marvel Studios, and was placed as the #8 of the best X-Men on IGN.
