Many classifications have been established to classified the mutants regarding to their power-set and mastery. Those classifications are called, among other names, "Biomutative Classification" (which include both a level of power and the type of power).[1]
A notable one uses the Greek alphabet; however, the levels are not clearly defined besides the infamous Omega-level, and even Omega is quite vague. On Earth-616, the mutant classifications are rarely used, except when identifying Omega Levels.
Mainstream Universes (Earth-616 & Earth-101001) and their Futures (Earth-91172 & 2061 A.D.)[]
Greek-numbered Classifications[]
Alpha Level and Alpha Class[]
Cyclops, an Alpha-level mutant
Alpha-Level Mutants,[2] Alpha-Mutants,[3] Alpha Class Mutants,[4][5] Alpha Level presences,[4] Alpha Muties,[4] are powerful mutants.
When the MLF members Moonstar, Dragoness, Forearm, Locus, Tempo, and Wildside provoked a hostage crisis, it was stated that that event involved Alpha Class Mutants.[5] It is unknown if all or only part of them were included in the statement, or if it was even a true statement and not a pretext for Operation: Zero Tolerance to step in.
Looking for eventual members of the Twelve, Kitty Pryde consulted the X-Men files about the known Alpha-Level Mutants.[2] The results shown presented the following as Alpha-Level Mutants: Franklin Richards, Phoenix, Legion, Professor X, Storm, Namor, Sebastian Shaw, Havok, and Sinister (though he was not classified a mutant at the time).[2] The record stopped to those nine names, but proposed to pursue search, which was denied by Pryde.[2]
Later, Apocalypse, once assembled the Twelve, stated that eleven of them were "Alpha-Mutants":[3] Magneto, Polaris, Storm, Iceman, Sunfire, Cyclops, Phoenix, Xavier, Cable, Bishop, and Rasputin.
It should be noted that many of the aforementioned mutants have also been identified as Omega Level mutants.

Alpha Level Telepath and Alpha Psi[]
Some characters have been stated to be Alpha Psi or telepaths:
- Birdy is an "Alpha-Class Psi Talent",[6]
- Professor X is a "Telepath, Level Alpha/1"[1] (it is unclear if that last classification concerns only the telepath level or the global level).
- On Earth-4935, the Parliament members of the Order of Witnesses were stated to be Alpha-Class Psi.[7]

Beta Level[]
Juston Seyfert's Sentinel considered that lethal force was necessary to take down Brian Rinehart, a mutant whose Mutant Power Level Classification was Beta, demonstrated powerful ergokinetic powers.[8]
Epsilon-Beta Class[]
Gailyn and Joseph Bailey are stated to be "Epsilon-Beta class" mutants.[9] It is unclear what this signifies.
Omega Level & Omega Class[]

Mutant power classifications have never been fully explained. However, Omega Level Mutant[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31] (with[32][33] or without hyphen), mutants with Omega-Level Potential,[25][34] Omega Level Power,[28] Omega-Level abilities,[35] Omega Mutants,[36][37][38] or simply Omega Level[39][40][41][42] or Omega[12][43][44] (also called Omega-class mutants by Xavier Institute's[45] and the O*N*E,[14] "Omega Levels"[46] and "Omega strength mutant" by the Stepford Cuckoos.[47]) is a term that is commonly used to refer to a mutant possessing powers without foreseeable limits. Examples include Elixir's biokinesis[45] and Legion's spontaneous mutations.[22][48][49] Talking about Jean Grey, a "grown-up Omega Mutant", Beast said that on the Richter Scale, she'd be a 12, and if she was a mountain, she'd be Olympus Mons on Mars.[36]
The term, initially "Omega Level Mutant Abilities" was seemingly used at first by Fred Duncan, and quickly adopted by Charles Xavier to define some of his first students, and was described in those terms: "Yet what he called Omega (the last) he meant as regards to an "ultimate threat,' while I simply prefer to think of such mutant abilities as unlimited potential."[10] The term was not known to Doctor Strange when he was still with Clea.[41]
Omega Level Energy[37] can be read by Shi'ar technology[37] and Cerebra.[39]
Other mutants have been deemed to be "only" Near Omega-Level,[50] potential Omega Level,[51] potential Omega-Class.[52] A Shi'ar proposed that every Omega Potential with psychic powers should be terminated in order to prevent them from becoming host to the Phoenix.[12]

Omega-Level Mutant Threats[]
Many beings, objects or events have been classified as Omega Class or Omega Level Threats. Some of them are mutants and said to Omega-Level Mutant threats,[53] Omega Threats[54] or Omega-Level Threats.[55] On Earth-2319, the Mapmakers stated that Tian, the City-Nation of the mutants, was an Omega-Level threat.[56]
Omega Level Healers[]
Elixir was described as a omega level healer,[57] with "Omega-class healing ability".[58] White Sword was also an omega level healer.[59]
Omega Level & Omega Class Telepaths[]

The mightier telepaths are considered to be part of a special category: the Omega,[60] Omega Level,[61][62][47][63][14][12][43][44][64][65][66][29][67][68] or Omega Class[69][70][71][72] Telepaths, or people with Omega-class telepathic abilities.[71]
Omega Telepaths were also witnessed in the mainstream universe's futures of Earth-91172 with the Omega level telepath Kid Omega[65] and in the year 2061 A.D. with Omega-Class Telepath Emma Frost.[72]

Omega Level Telekinetics[]
Cable was described by Havok as an Omega Level Telekinetic[73] during a burst of power, caused by Blaquesmith and Nathan Summers (Stryfe) (Hope Summers)'s manipulations. His clone Stryfe is stated to possess such power as well.[40]
Hope Summers was also able to express Omega Level Telekinesis by leeching Cable's powers, demonstrated in a massive telekinetic movement described by Nemesis as a "Omega-Level temper tantrum",[74] as Hope was angered during the powers expression. After having stabbed Cable with the Psimitar,[73] his Omega Level Telekinesis spilled out and was leeched by Hope,[75] stored and used for weeks, allowing her to form force-fields,[76] telekinetic superhuman-strength,[75] and Omega-Level Mind Bullets, but that TK was quickly dried up.[77]

Krakoan Era Definition[]
After the formation of Krakoa as a mutant nation, Omega-level mutants were defined as "a mutant whose dominant power is deemed to register—or reach—an undefinable upper limit of that power's specific classification".[78]
A comparison is made between Forge and Magneto. While both are said to be the most powerful mutants of their type, Magneto is Omega-level and Forge is not. This is because it is hypothetically possible to exceed the upper limits of Forge's power level—his upper limits have been surpassed by multiple humans. The upper limits of Magneto's power, however, cannot be surpassed in any observable way.
Everyone in the Great Ring of Arakko is Omega-level
While Arakko was discovered to harbor godlike mutants that were classifiable as being Omega-level, it is unknown if this classification is by the same definition as Krakoa's, and Charles Xavier's files do not provide many details beyond identifying which powers of these mutants are considered Omega-level.
Thus far, the only Arakkii mutants known to possess Omega-level powers are/were a part of Arakko's governing council, known as The Great Ring of Arakko.

- Franklin Richards was classified by the Mad Celestials to be "Beyond Omega Classification",[86] as well as his future counterpart.[87] According to Galactus, Franklin is the most powerful mutant ever born.[88]
- Vulcan was stated to be "beyond Omega Level",[85] "past Omega" by Prof. X,[89] and "way past Omega Level" by Rachel Summers,[90] after he was exposed to a massive amount of mutant energy that was expelled from mutants on M-Day.[89] At the time, he was also fused with Darwin, who had absorbed the essence of Sway and Petra.[89]
- Matthew Malloy was stated to be "more than an Omega Level Mutant" by Hank McCoy,[28] being "the largest mutant power source Cerebro had ever registered" according to Charles Xavier,[91] and Above Omega-Level Power.[41]
- X-Man was described by Legion to be "Omega Level. More than. Is there something above that yet? If there is, he's it."[92] Nate had the Life Seed when this statement was made.[93]
Possible but Unconfirmed Omega-level Mutants[]
- Synch: Synch's baseline powers were augmented after his resurrection via the Krakoan Resurrection Protocols, and an assessment by Dr. Cecilia Reyes noted that his upgraded powers may now make him an Omega-level mutant.[94] Post-resurrection Everett is now able to retain a limited "memory" of the mutant powers he previously had synched with, and his synchronization abilities have been greatly expanded, enabling him to synch with a diverse variety of enhanced beings, not just other mutants. Everett is now also able to synch his powers with others' without having his aura visible, as previously been the case.[95]
- Calderak: Fiery Calderak attempted to join the Great Ring of Arakko, which is normally made up of Omega-level mutants (except the Night Seats).[96] However, it is also stated that anyone can challenge a seat at any time and challengers do not have to be Omega-level;[79] thus, Calderak's status is unconfirmed.
Arabic-numbered Classifications[]
Class One[]
After a reading on Cerebro, Xavier sent Hank McCoy and Bobby Drake to investigate about "a possible Class One [mutant]", who was revealed to be the gargoyle-like mutant Alistair.[97]
- Alistair being described as a possible Class One mutant can possibly be explained by the fact X-Men First Class Special #1 (July 2007) was released only a year after X-Men: The Last Stand (May 2006) who used the terms Class Three, Four and Five Mutants.
Level 10 Psi[]
Emma Frost claimed to be Level 10.[98]
Age of Apocalypse (Earth-295 / Earth-95120)[]
In the Age of Apocalypse, mutants were classified by Apocalypse's services to classify his mutant prisoners and troops.
Alpha Class[]
In Age of Apocalypse, Logan is Alpha-class
The Alpha-Class,[99][100] Alphas,[101][99][100][102][103][104][105] Alpha Mutants[106] or mutant with Alpha Class powers,[107] are powerful mutants, most of them trained and with powerful powers. The Alphas were intended to be resurrected by Clan Akkaba in order to join Weapon Omega's forces.[104]
The Alpha-class mutants were stated to be "the deadliest, most powerful" mutants,[103] and were the sole mutants allowed in the Heaven, Worthington's night-club.[101] Regarding to the known information, the Alphas were mostly present among Apocalypse's forces and the rebels groups: The X-Men, the Brotherhood of Chaos and the Elite Mutant Force.
Later, they were all intended to be resurrected using the Life Seed by Sugar Man and Dark Beast for Omega Weapon's army, in the Alpha Lab.[108]
They were thought to try to take the powers after Weapon Omega's defeat, but that didn't happen.[106]
On Earth-95120, Abyss was seen eating X-Men Alpha-Bits, seemingly cereals with bits of Alpha Class mutants X-Men,[109] or maybe only the Alpha parts of those X-Men ?

Betas and Gammas[]
Very little is known about the mutants classified as Betas or Gammas,[110] except that their powers are inferior to the Alphas, but however powerful, as Zora Risman stated about two mutants, one of them a fire-breather: "They weren't alphas, but you could tell they were formidable. Probably betas or gammas."[105]
They were described as part of "the people",[106] in opposition to the Alphas, as well as the Dregs, and followed Lady Penance's rule.[106]
- The Gamma mutants are not to be confused with the Gamma Mutates, humans mutated by the Gamma Radiations.
Dregs[]
To be a Dreg means to be treated no better than dirt to be sifted through for "Genetic and evolutionary potential." 
The Dregs[102][106] were the lower-powered mutants. They were described as part of "the people", as well as the Betas and Gammas, in opposition to the Alphas. They followed Lady Penance's rule.[106] So far, no known mutant has been classified as being as a Dreg.
- The Dregs are also known on Earth-616, as being a group of Morlocks who lost their powers but kept their freakish appearance.
Days of Future Past (Earth-811)[]
First Level Mutants[]
After battling Ahab and his Sentinels, the Cyclops and Marvel Girl of Earth-616 (and possibly the X-Factorians Iceman, Beast, and Archangel; the X-Men Forge and Banshee; and the New Mutants Cable, Sunspot, Warlock, Boom-Boom, and Cannonball) were stated to be "First Level Mutants" by Franklin Richards.[111]
It is unclear if that term was just a derogatory term of a real classification.
Class Omega[]
From Earth-811, a possible future of Earth-616, Nimrod classified a Phoenix-Rachel Summers as being a "Class Omega (contact)" and considering himself to be on par with Class Omega beings, and stated about her that "Upper limit of target-subjects abilities have yet to be determined".[112]
On Earth-61029 (allegedly a past of Earth-811),[113] Nimrod was classified as a "Class Omega (intruder)" himself by Forge's defense systems.[114]
Earth-Skrull (Earth-5692)[]
Level Four[]
On Earth-5692, Skrulls controlling Earth scanned Blink, stating that she was a Level Four mutant,[115] without that classification to be explained.
X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever[]
Omicron[]
Omicron-level?
In an alternate reality, Miranda is a reality warping mutant so powerful that Beast had to make up a new level just to classify her. He picked Omicron because it sounded ominous.[116]
Miranda's omnipotent abilities are essentially a stand-in for the real-life staff at Marvel Comics. Miranda has the ability to edit reality in a way that nobody in-universe notices or questions, unless she allows them to,[116] and she has done so many times. This is used as an in-universe explanation for the various retcons, reboots, and nonsensical stuff found throughout the comics, such as the fact that Tony Stark has been in his 30s since the 1960s.[117]
Miranda and her reality's only appearance is in the limited mini-series X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever. When the series ended, Miranda deconstructed everything, including herself, and revealed the real-life pitch for the series by its writer Max Bemis, read by the editor Jordan D. White.[117]
Mainstream Universes (Earth-10005 (Cinematic Universe) & Earth-22795)[]
On Earth-10005, the mutants are classified by Class, presumably from one to five, five being the upper level known for now.
Class Three, Four, and Five[]
Jean Grey, a Class Five mutant
Callisto was able to sense mutants power levels. During her first meeting with Magneto, she estimated that he and Pyro were the only ones among 87 mutants in the reunion they attended to be above Class Three.[118] Jean Grey was the only Class Five mutant ever met by Charles Xavier (which implies Magneto and Pyro are Class Four), and her potential was stated to be limitless.[118] It is unknown if Callisto counted herself and the Omega Gang as Class Three or less, or among the Class Four.
- To be noted the Class 4-T of the future of Earth-2988, presented earlier. It is unknown if a link can be established and if that class can be considered as a subcategory of the Class Four.
On Earth-22795 (although seemingly being a "mainstream universe"), Wanda Maximoff was stated to be a Class Five mutant by Iron Man as well.[119]
- Wanda Maximoff (Earth-22795) being described as a Class Five mutant can possibly be explained by the fact What If? Avengers Disassembled #1 (November 2006) was released only a few months after X-Men: The Last Stand (May 2006) who used first that term to describe Phoenix/Jean Grey.
Future of a Mainstream Universe (Earth-2988)[]
Class 4-T[]
On Earth-2988, Kraal presented himself as "Class 4-T" (the T seemingly standing for "Telekinetics"). He was able to perform powerful telekinetic bursts and stated his classification as a seemingly hight or decent power level.[120] No other classifications was given as a comparative.
- To be noted the Class Four of Earth-10005, presented later. It is unknown if a link can be established and if the Class 4-T can be considered as a subcategory of the Class Four.
Other Classifications[]
O*N*E Threat Levels[]
Following the M-Day, the O*N*E established a Threat Levels classification of the remaining mutants, starting with Low, then General, Significant, High, and at last Severe.[14] This scale doesn't seems based only on the power-level of the mutants, but also on a large part on their criminal, military or activist activities, their self-reconnaissance as mutants, their psychology and morality.

- Marquis of Death was a reality warper who could destroy galaxies in a millisecond and had wiped out countless realities across the Multiverse. He could even summon cosmic entities to do battle.[122]
- Demiurge is a reality warper and a "singular multidimensional messiah" who will rewrite the rules of magic and change the Multiverse as a result.[123] Demiurge states that he can do anything, he is "giving birth" to the past and future, and he is "cradling" all realities in his arms.[124]
- Hyperstorm controlled the Power Supreme and could draw endless energy from Hyperspace.[125]
- Apocalypse is an External whose strength was augmented by Celestial technology.[126]
- Madelyne Pryor is a clone of Jean Grey, an Omega Level mutant.
- Scotty Summers, Raven LeBeau, and X-Man of Earth-1298. Scotty is strong enough to defeat the Goblin Queen (his mom) possessed by the Goblin Force,[127] Raven's powers are considered off the charts,[128] and X-Man is capable of capturing both Scotty and Raven.[129] An evil Charles Xavier desired all three of them for their psionic potential.[129]
- Santa Claus was once detected as the "most powerful mutant ever registered" by Cerebro.[130]
- Alfie O'Meagan is a reality warper from Earth-8908.
- Onslaught is technically not a true mutant but a psionic entity born from the mutants Professor X and Magneto. He had absorbed Franklin Richards and Nate Grey (who are both Omega-Level), and gained reality warping abilities.[131]
- Mister Immortal identifies as a "mutant" (Homo superior) but he is actually a Homo supreme. It is often said that Homo superior is the next step in human evolution; Homo supreme is allegedly the "final step" in human evolution, evolving beyond the concept of death itself.[132] The One Below All states that, as a Homo supreme, Mister Immortal is "the ultimate evolution of mutant power." However, the One Below All kills him in a possible future, proving that even the greatest of mutants cannot compare to the One Below All.[133]
- Darwin was exposed to the exact same mutant energies that turned Vulcan into an Omega-level mutant (they were fused at the time).[89]
- On Earth-913, Krakoa registered as a mutant so powerful "as to defy classification" on Cerebro.[134]
- Iceman[135] was once referred to as an Omega Level Mutate by Supergiant.[136]
- This could possibly be a mistake as mutants and mutates are different things, and Iceman is a mutant.
Trivia[]
- In the X-Men: Destiny video game, finishing the game on X-treme difficulty gives the achievement Omega-Level Mutant, which is worth 50 points.
- Back when Wanda Maximoff was considered a mutant, she was never given a classification. However, after she was retconned to not be one, X-Man created the Age of X-Man where everyone is a mutant and Wanda is referenced as an Omega mutant.[137]
