History

K'uk'ulkan was the first boy to be born in the underwater city of Talokan after its inhabitants migrated there from the surface. He was born a mutant due to his mother undergoing a transition into Talokanil while being pregnant. Possessing pointed ears and wings on his ankles, as well as the ability to breathe surface air without his skin turning blue, he has worshipped by the Talokanil as their feathered Serpent God, K'uk'ulkan. He also aged much slower than they did, still looking like a young boy when his mother died of old age. Her last wish was to be buried on land where she was born, and so K'uk'ulkan and a few Talokan warriors went back to land for the first time in decades. They would the land of their ancestors occupied by Spanish colonizers who attacked them in fear. The Talokan healed rapidly from their wounds and slew the colonizers in return before burying K'uk'ulkan's mother according to her last wishes. A dying man called K'uk'ulkan "el niño sin amor" ("the boy without love"), which K'uk'ulkan took up as Namor, the name he would be known by to his enemies.

The Talokan civilization became strong thanks to vibranium under the sea and stayed hidden from the surface-dwellers for the next 400 years. However, their solitude was disturbed when Wakanda revealed the wealth of their own vibranium supply to the world, starting the race for it among other nations. A student named Riri Williams constructed a vibranium-detecting machine which the United States used to discover some of its underwater deposit. To protect their secret, Talokan warriors led by Namor attacked the surveyor ship, killing everyone onboard and destroying the machine. Namor then revealed himself to Wakandan Queen Ramonda and gave her an ultimatum: use their spy network to locate the girl and bring her to him, or face a war against their people. Princess Shuri and Dora Milaje General Okoye visited Riri at her MIT campus, but during their escape the Wakandas were attacked by Talokan warriors Namora, Attuma, and Namor himself. Namor dueled Okoye and defeated her, while Princess Shuri barely negotiated herself and Riri to be taken hostage.

They were taken to an underwater cave that contained a passage to the Talokan city, where Namor revealed to Princess his history and invited her to visit Talokan city proper in a pressurized suit. He gave her a token of his later mother, hoping it to be a sign of Wakandan support in his plans to war against the surface world. However, Shuri and Riri were soon sprung out by Nakia, who killed a Talokan guard during the escape. This sparked the war between Wakanda and Talokan, and Namor soon attacked the Wakandan capital city of Birnin Zana, flooding the streets and attacking the Royal Palace where Riri was staying with the Queen. Namor threw a water bomb, and Ramonda sacrificed herself to save Riri. Namor then announced to Shuri that she was the Queen now and that he would return in one week unless his terms were met.

The Wakandans went to face the Talokan on the sea, preparing a trap for Namor. While Talokan stormed the Wakandan vessel, Namor flew up and was snatched by a Royal Talon Fighter in an attempt to restrain him. However, he broke out and the vessel crashed onto the land. Shuri, now with Black Panther powers, fought Namor until he stabbed her through with a spear. Shuri managed to lure him into a position where he was caught in an explosion of the voice-detonated fighter remains. Having Namor at her mercy, Shuri refused to kill him and instead took him to announce an end of hostilities to their army. Back at Talokan, Namor was questioned by Namora for the perceived weakness, but responded to her than Wakandans would inevitably come to see Talokan as a reluctant ally against the rest of the world.
