I had no doubt that this was going to be an absolute banger after that opening scene. This is the exact type of horror that I crave and eat up. There is an unwavering eeriness throughout this movie that weighs heavy and never let's go of you. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. There is some absolutely terrifying imagery in this film that I cannot get out of my head as I'm now home writing this review.
Nic Cage completely transforms into something we've never seen before in horror. A performance I believe only he could really pull off and he does it masterfully and with pure madness. I was creeped out and terrified everytime he appeared on screen. Maika Monroe puts on her greatest performance and gives us a 'Clarice Starling' level lead character to follow through the horrors of the film.
The concept of this story is so fresh and creative I was loving every bit of watching this hellish nightmare unfold. Had me hooked from minute one to the credits. Easily one of the best third acts I've seen in a horror film since Hereditary. The hype is REAL people! Go into this movie blindly and feast your eyes on this masterpiece thats probably the closest thing to a cinematic stairway to hell. The Man Downstairs is waiting.........
