Like a good episode of ‘Emily in Paris’. Luc even pops up in one scene. Stock photo cinema, but in the best way possible. No tension, all breeze. Sanitized images of Parisian streets, corporate jazz, costumes that fit each setting perfectly (the button-down shirt after a hard day's work, the casual-but-cute knit sweater for brunch with mom, tweed jackets for when at the hunting cabin), relationships that do not make any sense. Quite enjoyable.

One aspect of Andersen’s point is that the film doesn’t show images of the world’s misery, but its beauty. Adapting Andersen’s argument…

Objects in Time: The Tree and the Autostrada

The full title alone reveals that this is a film about time. And there has never been a time to be unconcerned with state power, human love and honor, and the devastation of war.

Much of the film is from the past: the stones from Sophocles’ time, the words from the times of Hölderlin and Brecht. But the voices, the bodies, the light, the air, and especially…
