CP: The controversy surrounding "Crash" started at Cannes where your film won a Special Jury Prize. Coppola, the jury president that year, described your work as original, daring and audacious, but he went out of his way to note that some people on the jury didn't support the recognition. Stop Making Sense 1984
Lost count of the amount of times I’ve seen this since first discovering it 10 years ago, at age 14/15.
A balm for the senses. Rewatching this and Varda’s “Le Bonheur” rejuvenated something in me. Colour, movement, music… all fundaments that are lacking among my contemporaries and in their work.
Also, the editing remains the precedent to look towards, for me. Incredibly judicious about when to cut between performers, spacious but never unmoored, rhythmic yet never stuck to a rote…
