Firstly, please do not take my rating as gospel. Jon M. Chu has crafted a genuinely well-made, well-acted musical that - so i'm told - is very accurate to the beloved stage play, and it's receiving the praise that it should be. I am just the WRONG audience.
I'm not much of a fan of what i'd consider to be 'traditional' musicals with people spontaneously dancing down the street in unison etc so I was planning on giving this a miss, but through a combination of the fantastic reception and my cinema buddy being really excited for it, I decided to give it a go. I probably shouldn't have. I found it incredibly boring, unnecessarily long, extremely naff and I simply couldn't wait for it to end. If you'd have told me it was 5 hours long I'd have believed you.
Again, my 2.5 rating means nothing. It's just a combination of my non-existent enjoyment and the 'objective' rating, because this is a good film. If you like musicals or the Wicked stage show, I can't imagine you won't have a good time with "Wicked: Part One".
