It's a Wonderful Life is the grandpappy of all Christmas movies, a movie held in such high esteem that you go into it looking for faults. Happy to report there aren't any.
It's the most Capra-esque of all the Frank Capra filmography. A warm hug for all mankind. It puts everyone on the same level, that level being we all matter. If there's a better, more life-affirming movie out there I will eat this review!
Jimmy Stewart is a magnificent powerhouse in this role. You feel his panic and despair, but his overwhelming joy too. If you don't cry when Jimmy Stewart starts crying, then I'm sorry to say, you are probably a filthy scumbag. Sorry, thems the rules.
Lionel Barrymore has created the most vile of villains in cinema history as Mr. Potter. I just want to punch his smarmy face!
A classic that becomes more classic with every passing Christmas. It probably means so much more for Christmas 2020, more than any year in this generation.
