It’s not Christmas without a trip to Bedford Falls at my house. There’s a reason Capra’s classic tops every Christmas movie list under the sun, not only is it the definitive festive film, it’s also one of the loveliest, most heart-rending journeys through a man’s life one could ever hope to experience. No chemistry bubbles as bright as the relationship between Stewart and Reed, never failing to leave me as a complete blubbering wreck once that final bell rings. James Stewart as George Bailey is probably my favourite performance in any film. Four words which somehow rip out my heart and put it all back together again in a single stroke: George lassos the moon.
