Carry-On 2024
Carry-On revives a certain type of 20th century mid-budget airport novel thriller that is now all too rare. The first hour of this plays out as a bottle thriller. Taron Egerton‘s Ethan…

Nosferatu 2024

Blood Simple 1984
Nothing tremendously innovative plot wise but it’s remarkable how assured the Coens’ style was right from the get go. This has all of their sinister, deep fried charm, it’s just not overcoming the basic tropes just yet. They also don’t have access to their regular stable of actors besides Frances yet, and the performances aside from M. Emmet Walsh are pretty plain. Some incredible moments of awkward violence though, especially that seemingly endless burial scene.

As a mood piece there’s no denying the craft. The grainy cinematography and run down sets are gorgeous. It really does feel like traveling back in time. The mics even sound like they’re from the era, thank god for subtitles. Some really dynamic camerawork too.…
