Hard to reckon how classically “pretentious” I find this (ie, a very stupid movie that postures as a very smart one) with how much fun I have watching it. don’t really have a novel way of saying this kind of sucks. Erivo and Grande are both very good, there’s some lovely production design, but this is extremely turgid and it just looks terrible. The colour grade seems to be the log line critique but this is an ill-composed, messily assembled film in each frame of its somehow nearly three hour runtime.
