Damien Chazelle’s love for jazz shines through in this romantic drama. The unique style of editing and cinematography that the director also used in Whiplash is transferred into this movie, making it an enjoyable watch, really honing in on all senses and surroundings. The sets are really well dressed and the chemistry between Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling is natural and attractive, making it easy to root for the pair. My favourite thing about this movie is actually the hidden messages of seizing the day and not giving up on your dreams or what makes you happy, even if others were to disapprove or make remarks and knock you down. Damien Chazelle’s storytelling is great at making the audience feel empowered and inspired and that’s why I would be happy to rewatch this again in the future.
