Nolan you freaking genius. This is the best movie of the year. I am speechless. Seriously a masterpiece. Let’s start out with possibly the greatest cast ever assembled. Every cast member is remarkable. Robert Downey Jr gives his career best performance and should easily win the best supporting actor Oscar. Cillian Murphy gives one of the best performances I’ve seen in years. The way he portrays Oppenheimer is fantastic and he needs to win best actor. Some other notably amazing performances include Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, and a big surprise of Alden Ehrenrich. The whole cast is phenomenal and the best ever. The movie is 3 hours long and that will turn some people off but because of the subject matter, it needed that. I didn’t feel the runtime at all. Perfect pacing. Christopher Nolan is my favorite director (he also shares a birthday with me so that’s cool) and he directs the hell out of this movie. If he doesn’t get a best director nom, the Oscars are rigged. The screenplay is amazing. The editing in this film is outstanding and some of the best I’ve ever seen. (That also needs to be nominated) The cinematography from Hoyte van Hoytema is absolutely fantastic and is such a beautiful movie to look at. This movie is almost all dialogue and it’s some of the best I’ve seen in a long time. JLL said that the dialogue feels like John wick level action scenes and he is so right. I love that this movie isn’t just centered around the trinity test, but the whole story of Oppenheimer. The trinity test scene is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen in a theater. The sound design and sound mixing is incredible and is so loud and amazing. Ludwig Goranson did the score of this movie and holy moly is it amazing. I loved how seamlessly it cuts back and worth between the black and white and colored sequences. On a technical level, this might be the best movie ever. I do want to say before everyone hops on the bandwagon, this will win at least 5 Oscars, mark my words on that. This is not only just the best biopic ever, not only one of Nolan’s best, not only the best movie of the year, but one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
